  • In this video - the third installation of my build-through series on this heavily field-modified StuG III - I finish off the construction with the kit's partial interior, the superstructure, and the gun. In this series I'll show all my tips, tricks, and suggestions for assembling Dragon/Cyberhobby 1:35 StuG III kits!
    Just watch out for that MG shield! Everybody gets it wrong :D

    Nice in depth tutorial, I'm building a dragon 6578 and this is helping a lot, despite the different kits. Thanks.

      Thank you! I am currently assembling a list of all corrections that Dragon StuG F/8 and G kits require. If you're interested in historical accuracy, I can tell you the slight modifications that 6578 requires. It is a very good kit.

      @@Panzermeister36 wow, thank you that'd be awesome.

      Here is what I have on my list:
      -Remove the smaller (4-bolt) access port on rear-lower plate B15 (Step 3)
      -Place only part B29 on rear plate; ignore trailer hitch part (never called out) shown attached to it in later steps
      -Change out early Alkett fender supports (part G33) for late type (part L5)
      -Change out S-hooks (part G3) for C-hooks (part A28 + scratchbuilt clamps) during fender/tool assembly
      -Place fire extinguisher in Alkett position (far left option shown in Step 6)

      @@Panzermeister36 Thanks dude, would you recommend changing the barrel for an after market metal one? I've ordered replacement tracks as the included ones aren't particularly nice.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SacramentOfCarnage the kit barrel is one piece and it's pretty alright. I personally wouldn't change it, but it's an option.

    I've watched these a lot as I'm building a dragon stug iii (the "dec 43" production kit) and seeing how you do things helps quite a lot. I just wish your kit had shurzen as it looks like it's going to be a pain to figure out how to place the attachment points for that on the hull....

    Great job on your build.
    I'm working on Dragon kit #6365, close to what your building according to your videos.
    Gotta admit, might be my last Dragon build.
    I didn't catch the commander hatch mistake and now the gun won't fit into the upper structure according to the directions (different than your build).
    I'm going to nick name it, "fine whiskey" because I can't leave it alone...
    Keep up the good work. Very few people know what they are doing on You Tube.
    Cheers!

    that bar going across the back where you put the tracks on is an antennae guard. Also, I notice the gun assembly is dif from another Dragon kit I had a question about.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is an antannae guard but you can find tons of photos of StuGs with spare tracks stowed up there. Not sure if it was meant to do both jobs of if the crews figured it out. Yeah this StuG has a slightly different gun. It's the L/43 rather than the L/48 so the gun barrel is a little shorter, and in turn so is the pig-head style mantlet. It's maybe 4mm shorter along that tubular bit where the gun barrel slots into the mantlet from the outside. The kit came with different parts in the gun mount and everything, its a little weird.

    Great tutorial! Thanks a lot! Still have one question. How do you paint the area between the open hatch and the gun shield? Should I paint them separately or I can stick the model together (with glue) and paint the whole model?

    • @len47
      @len47 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about my poor English...

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your English is actually very good. What I would do now is simply temporarily attach the open hatch with some white glue or masking fluid. This would allow me to position the gun shield at the proper angle (against the open hatch) and glue it to the roof and solidify in position. Then I could remove the open hatch to paint it, and then gun shield would stay where it is. I hope that makes sense.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it is a bit tricky and the instructions don't help at all! The only way I figured out that it worked like this was through looking at photos of StuGs in WWII

    Awesome Evan. Are you going to finish inn time? I still have to do just a pigment pass and the antennas. Been so busy I've worried about finishing myself.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope so, but I do have quite a lot planned for the painting and weathering bits, and of course I have to film it too which slows me down a bit. Worst case scenario it'll be done in a month.

      +betochon The tamiya glue soaks into the plastic, but the super glue, yes, I did have to scrape away a little extra
