Think of it as like going one point or goal up in the first minute then spending the resting of the game defending the lead rather than trying to score. Happens in many sports.

This was payback for Atlanta when Robert Scheidt tricked Ben Ainslie into getting disqualified costing him the gold medal. Karma eh?
Ridiculous way to own a medal. By the rules, but in a shame way.
Scheidt made his bed 4 years earlier and had to lie in it.
