Piza dales Diesc (3.026 m), l'Ciaval (2.907 m) at the Sas dla Crusc in Alta Badia · Dolomites

Our house mountain is the "Sas dla Crusc", in the Italian language it is called the "Santa Croce". As seen from our home town of Badia you can spot 2 main peaks forming this mountain range. The highest one is the "Piza dales Diesc" (3.026 m). "Diesc" in Ladin is the number 10. It's called like that because on summer equinox the sun is at 10 AM above this peak. There is also another peak, that you can't see directly from Badia and is called "Piza dales Nü". Nü in Ladin is the number 9. So guess at what time the sun is above this peak? 😉
The central peak (seen from Badia) is the "Ciaval", which translated means horse. This name is because the peak has this form of a horse head as seen from the side.
As our kids are now old enough it was time to take them up to the Sas dla Crusc. For every local, this is just like a pilgrimage. As soon your strength is good you have to go up to these peaks from where you have a terrific view of the whole Badia valley with the towns of La Val, Badia, La Villa, San Ciascian, Corvara, and Colfosco.
