      Being closer to Casey Key is one of the things we miss most about living in Sarasota. It absolutely is a hidden gem. Thanks for watching, Tony!

    My family spent summers on Casey key for several decades. Didn't have many homes on it . People gradually built houses as the years passed. We stayed at what is now called A Beach Retreat ,next to the public beach. We had so many seashells from there too. The water is such a beautiful blue too. My brothers and I were there about 20 years ago, some of the happiest days of my life were spent there. I truly miss it.

    I own a house there. The reason the average price is so high is because there are a handful of houses worth tens of millions that bring the average up. There are quite a few smaller family homes still on the island that were bought decades ago before the prices skyrocketed. It is a beautiful place and people walk up from the public beach to lay on the beachfront property of the residences all the time. I don't know of anyone who minds. I know I don't. Everyone should have a chance to visit this slice of paradise. On Sundays, there is a steady stream of cars and motorcycles going by the house as people enjoy driving the island to see the homes and the spectacular views. You drive around a corner and suddenly there is a beautiful view of the gulf, around the next corner is one of the bay, and the sunsets are stunning almost every day. Glad you got to spend some time on my favorite place on earth.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We here similar stories from folks on many of the barrier islands... that prices used to be affordable but have gone up 10 times or more over the last 20 years. We really do love the island and can understand why the extremely wealthy want to live there, and we're thankful that we are still able to visit and enjoy the islands amazing beaches!

    We've stayed on Casey Key, right next to Nokomis Beach, many times. The reason it was less crowded north of the main parking & beach entrance is because you were no longer on the public beach. We stay at A Beach Retreat, and their property is where it becomes private for all the little resorts along the beach. I didn't realize it myself until the sign was pointed out to me. Of course, any area below the mean high tide line is open to anyone.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for sharing, Karen! We knew it was legal to walk the beach up and down Casey Key provided you entered at the public access, but we didn't realize there was a certain point where you would have to stay below the mean high tide line.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      $8Mill is just the average. Some of the larger ones that overlook the beach go well above that. It's crazy! It would pretty amazing to live there, but I couldn't imagine paying the tax and insurance let alone affording to buy the house! On sunny days when the gulf is calm (especially late mornings), the Gulf really is beautiful. And we agree that the tuna wrap was the best meal of the day!

  • @AquariusTraveller
    @AquariusTraveller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So which house was Stephen kings? LOL
    It's hard to pick between all the different beaches you have featured lately, but I do like the fact that's it's mostly residential and not a lot of tourists.
    Hands up for the calamari and shrimp too please !!! I love my seafood when I'm away - Matt doesn't like a lot of it and only seem to get it when I'm away..LOL. I would have gone with the salmon BLT too, but looked a little hard to get my mouth around HAHA
    That drum circle reminded me of Fiji, lots of lights and a beautiful sunset behind - IT's just amazing guys and a nice way to end the evening.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are pretty sure we know which one is his, but didn't want to give that info away in the video!
      We really weren't that in to seafood either until we moved to Florida. But when you live close to the water and have access to so much delicious seafood, we couldn't help but grow to love it.
      On most days we prefer the non-touristy beaches as well, but every now and then we do like the more energetic and touristy spots. That salmon BLT really was quite hard to eat, but it was worth the difficulty.
      Seeing a drum circle in Fiji would be so cool. But I have a feeling that the drum circles here in the states would not seem too great after experiencing a Fiji drum circle!

The beach area looks really beautiful there and I'd love to stay by the water therefor the day. But there was also a lot of nice scenery in the area - and food is always important - and so are the beers!! Seems like you guys (and your scooters) had the perfect day exploring the beaches. And all your videos make me want to move to Florida 😂

      Our pleasure, Leonardo. That's a great question about the paddleboarding. We've actually made several paddleboard trips from Turtle Beach (on the south side of Siesta Key) to the norther part of Casey Key. It's a really beautiful and fun paddle and good for beginners. You can also rent paddleboards right next to the Casey Key fishouse, and I would imagine that would be a really good paddleboarding spot as well! If you are more experienced, just launching off Nakomis Beach and paddling north up the beach would be a really fun paddle too!

    • @Explorcation

      Thanks, Keith! We like them to bike racks when available, but other times we'll lock them to a fence post, sign post, or whatever is available. Other times we will just bring them into restaurants with us as they can be pulled behind you like a suitcase and will fit under the table. We really love them and would recommend them to anyone. • @Kidlitwriter
      @Kidlitwriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, not even close. We own a house there. Not an 8 million dollar home, but a nice house which family and friends have enjoyed for years. My husband dug ditches and pulled cable for years until he built up his business while I raised four kids, worked from home, and survived two different kinds of cancer. We lived paycheck to paycheck for a lot of years before the business took off. Even now that we are comfortable, we don't live much differently except we don't have to worry about bills anymore. We still do repairs, laundry, cooking, gardening, cleaning, etc. just like everyone else. The best thing is we can help out family, friends, and charities to keep others from struggling. We drive a five year old Explorer. No yachts, not even a boat. Some people with money live the life you are imagining, but most don't. They are standing in line next to you at the grocery store or sitting next to you at your kid's school meeting and you would never know. They're just people.
