3 years late, but as a licensed aircraft mechanic, let me tell you that a single coin could and would easily cause catastrophic damage to a jet engine, whether fully spooled up or just starting. What tends to happen is the fan and compressor blades do chew up the object, but those blades get torn apart and the fragments of both get sucked into the hot section where the fuel ignition happens. So yes, the little old Chinese lady who is tossing coins into the engine should be stopped immediately.

I think it´s less of a superstition and more of psychological thing to me ; to me, it´s reassuring to have felt the metal surface, as if to say "this is solid and wont fall to pieces". In a way, it may be the analytical side of the brain trying to reassure the one producing the emotional side ("oh my god we´re gonna crash")... maybe it creates an illusion of control or proximity to the machine, I dont know...

All the people who struggle to listen on youtube because you can't lock the screen... I suggest you use an app called 'Background Tube'. There you can play youtube videos and lock your screen....and it also consumes remarkably less battery than the youtube app. Try it.
I'm very firmly in Team Self-Checkout but the only major issue I have with them is that most supermarkets require you to get a member of staff to 'confirm' your bag before you can even start if it's heavy enough. I tend to carry a backpack with me everywhere, and in there I keep a few essentials (umbrella, Kindle, external battery for my phone, water, etc) so it's always heavy enough to trigger this bag check, but I also don't want to use one of the supermarket's plastic bags because it's 5p each time plus it contributes (in a negligible way) towards ecological problems. I wish more supermarkets would do like Waitrose, where you don't need to have your bag checked, and trust that most customers will be honest, and that the security cameras will take care of the minority of customers that would try to smuggle items into their bags without paying for them.

I think, for 37:05 you have to take into consideration how much of your video they've used, and what content they use in the rest of it. If it's just an entire video of stolen stuff, then that's bad. If they've used the entirety of your video in theirs, then that's bad. If, however, they use 50% or less of a video, and gave credit, and they expand on its content, then it's usually alright.

One thing you didn't talk about in your "Why Die?" video is telomeres. A telomere is "a region of repetitive nucleotide sequences at each end of a chromosome." Telomeres are significant in aging as every time mitosis(the regular regeneration of tissue or tissue by cellular replication) occurs, the telomeres wear away a little bit, and as you age, the telomeres decrease in size(due to a decreasing amount of the hormone telomerase), leading to what is essentially 'death by old age.' So after all diseases and illnesses are eliminated, this will likely be the last cause of death in humans. Now I don't know too much about it, just that it if the solution was to make more telomerase, it wouldn't be as significant. I also may have made a mistake in my explanation, so please correct me if I have.
Telomeres are just one of many, many other mechanisms that lead to ageing. It's actually not even the main cause. If you would just increase the number of telomerases you'd get any cancer you can think of. The main reason for ageing is, that it is an intentional process encoded in the DNA. It's not a flaw or error.

I've been wondering about what should be fair use when it comes to using other peoples content. Especially after starting my podcast, since it has an intro and outro using other peoples content. How short should it be? Why are 15 seconds better than 45 seconds? How transformative should it be? Should I not even risk it, and just forget about this weird gimmick? I stopped doing it for a while, but it felt weird, and I started again. Imagine a lab that when a test fails and they destroy the cells, they don't write down that they destroyed the cells, instead they buy some blackmarket "early-childhood" stemcells and slap the certified, registered, confirmed legal label onto the stolen stem cells. We have all sorts of fiction on this topic, The Island (2005) was a PG version, while I take the story in Full Metal Alchemist more seriously. That is the kind of thing that would be done in 3rd world countries. Entire cities of people would be ground into a tiny vile of Elixir of Youth. Do not pretend we can solve this. I would bet that at least 10,000 children over the age of 1 are being sold for stem cells on the black market every single year. That isn't even unreasonable because 8 million children go missing every year, we have no way of knowing what happens to them. Even if stem-cell research is completely outlawed, if billions of dollars start to be dumped into life-extension then scientists are going to start working in "dark labs" that don't care about any law, and they sell their results to the highest bidder. Don't you think scientists would do anything to get a leg up on their competition? I bet there are plenty of scientists that would buy research data from these human traffickers by telling themselves that all research was done with the stem cells from aborted fetuses. One thing you didn't talk about in your "Why Die?" video is telomeres. A telomere is "a region of repetitive nucleotide sequences at each end of a chromosome."
Telomeres are significant in aging as every time mitosis(the regular regeneration of tissue or tissue by cellular replication) occurs, the telomeres wear away a little bit, and as you age, the telomeres decrease in size(due to a decreasing amount of the hormone telomerase), leading to what is essentially 'death by old age.' So after all diseases and illnesses are eliminated, this will likely be the last cause of death in humans.
Now I don't know too much about it, just that it if the solution was to make more telomerase, it wouldn't be as significant. I also may have made a mistake in my explanation, so please correct me if I have.
Telomeres are just one of many, many other mechanisms that lead to ageing. It's actually not even the main cause. If you would just increase the number of telomerases you'd get any cancer you can think of. The main reason for ageing is, that it is an intentional process encoded in the DNA. It's not a flaw or error.
There's an enzyme called telomerase that can extend telomeres. It's a problem, but it's nowhere near the biggest one.
MrTridac whatever gives you that idea? The medical consensus is very much that ageing is the accumulation of damage over time.

I thought aging was due to the fact it is disadvantagous evolutionarily to have a longer lifespan as the energy that would go into thatbaould be better used increasing survival chances prior to reproduction.

I've been wondering about what should be fair use when it comes to using other peoples content. Especially after starting my podcast, since it has an intro and outro using other peoples content. How short should it be? Why are 15 seconds better than 45 seconds? How transformative should it be? Should I not even risk it, and just forget about this weird gimmick?
I stopped doing it for a while, but it felt weird, and I started again. It's not like I really care if TH-cam gives our earnings to someone else, because there are no earnings, and probably never will be.

I think the primary debate over life-extending research is at the moment it seems to revolve around stem-cell research. Even if you made it a voluntary operation to only take stem cells from people over the age of 21 there would still be the question of human trafficking. How many people would be kidnapped, sent to a country where there weren't background checks on the source of the cells and then sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars? How many countries would have no problem with using aborted fetuses? Imagine hospitals and daycares having to greatly increase security in the pregnancy ward. This is something that can only ever be legal in a world where every single country needs to be vigilante on the source of every single stem cell. Imagine a lab that when a test fails and they destroy the cells, they don't write down that they destroyed the cells, instead they buy some blackmarket "early-childhood" stemcells and slap the certified, registered, confirmed legal label onto the stolen stem cells. We have all sorts of fiction on this topic, The Island (2005) was a PG version, while I take the story in Full Metal Alchemist more seriously. That is the kind of thing that would be done in 3rd world countries. Entire cities of people would be ground into a tiny vile of Elixir of Youth. Do not pretend we can solve this. I would bet that at least 10,000 children over the age of 1 are being sold for stem cells on the black market every single year. That isn't even unreasonable because 8 million children go missing every year, we have no way of knowing what happens to them.
Even if stem-cell research is completely outlawed, if billions of dollars start to be dumped into life-extension then scientists are going to start working in "dark labs" that don't care about any law, and they sell their results to the highest bidder. Don't you think scientists would do anything to get a leg up on their competition? I bet there are plenty of scientists that would buy research data from these human traffickers by telling themselves that all research was done with the stem cells from aborted fetuses. Or there would be stem cell traffickers that buy stem cells and tell themselves that same story, they may even believe that no one over the age 1 is ever ground down into a tiny vile of white.
There are many things done in secret that are disgusting. It is easy to tell me it doesn't happen, but, believe it or not, people have done worse with far less money on the table.
