Beatles Rock Band was an incredible time capsule of a game. DLC you'll NEVER be able to get ever again. That game and the 2009 Remaster Box Set changed my life in my teen years.
I love the character arc of derrick how at the beginning of the podcast derrick said no one was allowed to use the sound of him receiving the ps5 but by the end of the podcast he runs for president and said no one is allowed to own sounds

I really liked the speaker in the ps4. Not a lot of developers used it but it was done really well when they did. Especially in The Last of Us remastered when you play the recorder and you can hear the crackle-y audio coming out of the controller. Or in Death Stranding when the baby cries.
I honestly agree with Shawn's worries that the PS5s controller gimmicks might not stick around past the first few games. Remember when nintendo made such a big deal about HD rumble? It's pretty seldom used now. The PS4's touch pad is the same way.i won't be surprised if in a year games will be back to using boring rumble and a default trigger tension. Except for some exclusive maybe.
I was way into Guitar Hero when that first one came out on PS2, and followed what came out around that console's lifespan, but never really dug into Rock Band, and then fell off after the PS3/360 stuff happened. Mega64 is actually one of the things that got me to pick it back up. I found a good deal on some of the guitars (alllllllllll the PS3 guitars work on PS4 still. And PS5, apparently), and then started picking up the games again. Had a blast -- but the real one that Mega64 led me towards, that I hesitated with, was Rock Band: The Beatles. I was never against them, but I wasn't a fan before that game. I got it for $2 online, though, and gave it a go just last year. It was my favorite gaming experience of the year, and single-handedly changed my views and opinion on the band/music. Felt like playing through a documentary in a way, as I dug through unlocks along the way. That game is definitely underrated. Even though it doesn't have all my hundreds of DLC songs now, too, it's the Rock Band experience I still hold the highest, and won't stop going back to here and there. Super good game. I'm glad everyone at M64 loved it enough to keep talking about it years later, or I would have missed out massively.

In 2011 I got Dark Souls with no intention of beating it. I have now beaten it several times and has become a comfort game for me. I believe you'll like Demon's Souls Derrick.
I swapped from PS4 to Series X this gen. I hated the debut of the One so I went PS4, but my lord I hated that thing. I'm glad Xbox is back on track and I'm loving the new console, I had no problem with getting my library back on Xbox but it didnt cross my mind that my PS4 saves are gone. Whoops.
Garrett has completely embraced his Kazuhira Miller look. Superb. And yeah, the algorithms are terrible, gets worse every year. I'm not going to Twitch, both as a creator or a viewer, I'm really surprised there's still people going there, to me it's already dead. Let alone the abusive bans for no reason from what I've heard. It will die once TH-cam perfect the live functions, when you think about it, it doesn't make sense to make your audience move from one platform to another. I don't go to your twitch channel and I'm not using it myself. If you did livestreams on TH-cam, I'd definitely watch them though. But there are so many other problems, the partnerships, the featurings, basically everything is wrong. Too many "creators" are ruining this platform. Let's be honest, 99% of creators are not good on this platform. It's just become extremely boring. This channel is a gem and I hope you guys can keep on going for the next decades. When I went to watch the podcast on Twitch Sunday night, I noticed the chat archive had been disabled, and then the archived podcast was taken down completely a few hours later. I’m curious to know what happened, but it doesn’t seem like any segments of the podcast have been edited out so it’s probably nothing.
The US release of PS2 had a couple strong launch titles which makes it the best PlayStation launch in my opinion. Off the top of my head it had Armored Core 2, Tekken Tag Tournament, SSX, TimeSplitters, and Dynasty Warriors 2 at launch
35:00 That's pretty much one of my biggest gripes with the PS5. I pretty much only play games from japanese developers. Not out of principle, it's just a matter of fact that most games from western studios aren't compelling to me with the exception of indie games but I'm not gonna get a PS5 to play indies on it, for that I have my PC and Switch. The other problem is Sony having been big time consumer unfriendly last generation and I'm really not trusting them right now. The censorship shit is my biggest problem there and as someone who loves JRPGs, I just don't feel well supporting Sony right now. Also the lack of a way to make offline back-ups of your save files is a big negative for me as well (although I'm optimistic that they're gonna change that with a software update). I'm probably gonna get PS5 slim at some point (the monster is just too big for me), don't if used or new yet. Depends on whether I want to support Sony again by then or not.

Real quick (dunno if Mega64 reads comments on the podcast) The Spider-Man face reason is because Yuri Lowenthal , Spider-Man voice actor, did facial motion capture for the 1st game, but they couldn’t get his expressions right. So insomniac got another real life model who likes like a younger Yuri Lowenthal(Yuri’s 40 something years old) to get scanned in. Such a shame because I like the real life model of the original PS4 game & they could’ve just made a resolution upgrade on what was there
