Lecture Summary: This seminar will discuss themes in Professor Dowdle’s new book,Transnational Law: A Framework for Analysis. Globalization impacts every aspect of modern society, and today’s legal professionals are increasingly expected to deal with complex legal problems that require insight and training that go beyond the domestic law/international law dyad. Examining both the theory and practice of transnational law, this textbook provides a conceptual framework for approaching, analysing, and working with transnational legal phenomena, and for thinking about what are the practical and normative implications of one’s engagement with those phenomena. Its discursive presentation of materials encourages readers to arrive at their own conclusions regarding its analyses. Its interdisciplinary focus draws from a wide variety of case studies, providing a comprehensive exploration of a new and emerging discipline from a large diversity of perspectives.
