    That was so helpful! But many fountain pens look like the nib would spread but the description often doesn't tell if can be used for calligraphy marks or not. I'd like to find a relatively inexpensive fountain pen that can produce calligraphy marks too. Any suggestions?

      Yes, this is true. I checked this out and there are "flexible" fountain pens. I believe there are some available from Paper & Ink Arts for under $30.
