They only made 250 of the Spider-Man turntables and Phil was the only store I called that actually ordered it for me. Him and his son are amazing guys and while I’m in North Carolina I will always do business with them.

I get that. I’m very fortunate to work from home, with allows me to listen to a decent amount of records throughout the day. The good ones I save for after work and play before heading to bed. 👍
That's a crazy haul. 1700 is a crazy amount. I came almost close to that except that i spent 1700 bucks less hahahah i don't know how to feel about RSD tbh. As a record collector, it should be my christmas but i don't really get that same excitement out of RSD like i used to.
I totally get where you are coming from. Many collectors feel that RSD has changed over the years, and not necessarily for the better. The record store I support is still about making fun day for their customers. They are on the smaller side, don’t have a massive online store or buckets of social media followers. They still rely on the local community and RSD is one of those days where the community comes together to show their support, recapturing some of that old excitement. I’m interested in hearing more about your experiences and what has changed over the years to lessen your excitement for RSD.

Nice post RSD wrap up. It was one of the best RSD lists in yrs appealing to a wide range of interests. Good to see. Been several decades since we’ve had a local record store here in flyover country so RSD usually starts with a Sunday morning internet frenzy with some choice pickups once reviews trickle in. 1st 3 titles to show up are The Cranberries - Bury The Hatchet, mono Bill Evans - Everybody Digs Bill Evans, and Jiro Inagaki - In The Groove. Enjoy.

Great haul, I was able to get everything I wanted but I was disappointed in the Airplane soundtrack, I was really hoping for some dialogue here and there between the music. It would've made a great double album with LP 1 the soundtrack and LP 2 bits from the movie. Great video, looking forward to watching more of them from you.

I could have gone nuts for RSD as I have in the past. I currently am trying to curtail my spending. I did not go out. I am thinking of going today to see what is left. Talking Heads, Jazz Dispensary and The Hives were probably the only things I really want. Parliament was a maybe depending on the price.

Also grabbed Dead Milkmen, Joe Strummer and Laufey (amazing). And a few others…….also got the new Herbie Hancock in the mail today so need to stop buying for a while!!! All in all a great day.
It just goes to show you something. I've been collecting records since 1978 and this is the first year I've ever even heard of Record Store Day. Pretty much equal to guys who like to ride motorcycles, and now every year for 3 weekends in Myrtle Beach the city is infested with all kids of loathsome people who come down just to act like a Billy Badass. I guess it's a lot different between my era and the new one. We would go to a record store on any day of the week to buy a record that we didn't know was worth anything. Now people flock to stores because the owners see them coming with hundred dollar bills hanging out of their pockets. A whole different, bastardized hobby.
Record Store Day began in 2007 to honor and promote the unique culture of independently owned record stores. It occurs annually on a Saturday in April, connecting fans, artists, and thousands of indie record shops worldwide. Exclusive vinyl and CD releases, along with special promotional items, are produced just for this day. The inaugural Record Store Day was on April 19, 2008, and it has grown into a globally recognized event, celebrated on every continent except Antarctica. Honestly, over the years more and more record stores are starting to not participate in RSD. It’s a logistical nightmare for some, combined with low margins, and uncontrollable allocation. Fans are also growing in disappointment. The releases feel gimmicky, sometimes poorly pressed, or repressed later in a different color variant as a worldwide release. If you miss something, the aftermarket is insane with some albums selling 4-5x the cost the same day on Discogs. For me, it’s a fun night/day out with the vinyl community. The store I support does it well and it’s something to look forward to. Most people come out for a record or two. I save up, create a list, and try to complete it. I don’t flip records, I enjoy them and hope to pass them on when the time comes. So I’m not in it to gain anything more than the music I collected. If I can score some great albums, make some friends in the community, and support a local business, I don’t see how this is bad for anyone. Sorry you never heard of it before, but perhaps you should go next time. You might actually have a great time. I definitely did!
@@VinylLatte Sounds great. The zoetrope effect is not all it’s cracked up to be without very bright light or a strobe but 26 bucks for one of my favorite albums was still a good price. I didn’t spend nearly as much as you did that day but I bought half a dozen LPs .😁
Great finds, looked like a very nice record store. Up here in northern Denmark, the nearest physical store is in Aalborg, 110 kms from here, so, bike on the train and up early (train doesn’t leave early enough to get in line). Still, I get a travel video/RSD video out of it 😊 11 finds for me, probably a bit more than it would have been if a couple of my misses ahd been here, and the price of the Doors live album? Wow… So, kiind of glad they did not have that one (well, they had 2). But did it stop there for me… sigh, no, I ordered a couple more online… We lack vinyl self control don’t we? @@VinylLatte It sounds great. The only thing I don't like is that the lead vocal is pushed back. To me it seems the guitars are emphasized, which I like, but I'd like to hear the vocal more. Anyway, the band sounds great and it was a good purchase!

I just wish RSD did reissues of more obscure albums with cult followings. I’m really not interested in live albums, complications, remixes, picture discs, singles, or box sets of classic rock.

I went to support, and to take part in the vibes 4/20, but I didn’t buy anything-I spent far too much on Friday anyway lol

No offence but I live in the real world, I am into the Music for the Music, and I have to actually earn my music rather than get it from a music channel or whatever. I am from the UK and had 6000 records before moving here but none of them were givem to me by a rich mummy, I have to work for a living. Very different I know, from the RSD community of today for whom $1700 is probably just one weeks "promotion" money.
Would you agree that in life our thoughts have the power to attract either positivity or negativity depending on our focus? I’m guessing not. Well my friend this very reply that you hate only exists because of your hatred.
The music is what matters not the medium you listen to it on. You don’t need to listen to a sealed 1st state butcher cover when you can buy a player copy of yesterday and today. Things become collectibles. I have to ask my friend, what would you if you had an original amazing fantasy #15 while also wanting to read amazing fantasy #15? Would you read your original copy or would you buy a reissue to actually put your fingers on and toss around as a comic should be?
I have a saying, “There’s two things a that are no good to me, a record that skips or a record that is sealed.” Music is meant to be listen to. Even my most collectable pieces get spun. Not all collectors agree with me on this, but that’s the benefit to having our own collections-we can do what we want with them.

Guy is clearly into the music he buys; first 3 items shown are Linda Ronstand' 'Eric Clark' & 'Lil Ritchie'. Then Cheet Baker soon after. He even says Aeroplane instead of Airplane at one point. I found myself surprised when he managed to pronounce any of the artists correctly. By the way, whats a 'ganre'? This is cringe as hell.

@@VinylLatte It sounds great. The only thing I don't like is that the lead vocal is pushed back. To me it seems the guitars are emphasized, which I like, but I'd like to hear the vocal more. Anyway, the band sounds great and it was a good purchase!
Thanks for sharing. I’m with you on the preference of having the vocals more “front and centered”, however, it sounds like it’s a great album and I’m looking forward to giving it a spin!

I just wish RSD did reissues of more obscure albums with cult followings. I’m really not interested in live albums, complications, remixes, picture discs, singles, or box sets of classic rock.

@@VinylLatte Sure a few things: Jazz dispensary stuff is always good; Parliament, Freddie Gibbs, At the Drive in (great press of an album that has been out of print for awhile)…nothing that really made me jump out of my seat to go wait on line and spend hundreds of dollars. I went to support, and to take part in the vibes 4/20, but I didn’t buy anything-I spent far too much on Friday anyway lol
@@mightguy123456 Great taste in music! At The Drive-In seemed still hard to come by. My store didn’t receive any, and a few mates I know at different stores said the same. Now the RSD price is almost at OG prices 🤦

No sir. The only albums I sell are one's I have duplicates of or upgraded (such as going from VG+ to NM/M).
No offence but I live in the real world, I am into the Music for the Music, and I have to actually earn my music rather than get it from a music channel or whatever. I am from the UK and had 6000 records before moving here but none of them were givem to me by a rich mummy, I have to work for a living. Very different I know, from the RSD community of today for whom $1700 is probably just one weeks "promotion" money.
Not certain where you’re going with this. I work hard every day for what I have. No one is handing me “promotional” money. 👍

It is. It’s pressed across two LPs. Never seen a mint OG for $10, good for you if you have!
The music is what matters not the medium you listen to it on. You don’t need to listen to a sealed 1st state butcher cover when you can buy a player copy of yesterday and today. Things become collectibles. I have to ask my friend, what would you if you had an original amazing fantasy #15 while also wanting to read amazing fantasy #15? Would you read your original copy or would you buy a reissue to actually put your fingers on and toss around as a comic should be?

I have a saying, “There’s two things a that are no good to me, a record that skips or a record that is sealed.” Music is meant to be listen to. Even my most collectable pieces get spun. Not all collectors agree with me on this, but that’s the benefit to having our own collections-we can do what we want with them.

Guy is clearly into the music he buys; first 3 items shown are Linda Ronstand' 'Eric Clark' & 'Lil Ritchie'. Then Cheet Baker soon after. He even says Aeroplane instead of Airplane at one point. I found myself surprised when he managed to pronounce any of the artists correctly. By the way, whats a 'ganre'? This is cringe as hell.
