There is a subtext to this . Dharma the name of the hero is actually based on Dharmaraja also known as Yudhisthira from the epic Mahabharata . The great epic is finally ending . The Pandavas after winning the terrible war with their cousins the Kauravas rule for 36 years and then leave it for the next generation and proceed on their spiritual quest. The 5 brothers and their wife Draupadi walk through the mountains. On their way a dog accompanies them from nowhere . One by one they fall dead , finally only the dog and Yudhishtira are left . Finally Indra , the king of Gods appears in his chariot along with his retinue. He says to Yudhishtira that he is eligible to come to heaven in his mortal body , a rare privilege. Yudhishtira says let the dog also come with him . Indra laughs and says animals are not allowed . Yudhishtira who epitomises Dharma ( righteousness) says he shall not abandon an animal which has sought refuge in him. Not even for heaven. At that time the dog disappears and the Lord of Justice , Yama appears . It was Yama all along testing Yudhishtira and he is pleased .Yudhishtira finally goes to heaven . He will be tested once more on heaven by Lord Yama but that is a story for another day.
