Stift Admont, Steiermark - Austria HD Travel Channel

Admont Abbey was founded 1074 and is the oldest monastery in Styria, Austria. The Abbey Church is inspired by the Regensburg Cathedral. Today you find also a secondary school in the abbey.
The Abbey Library is the largest and probably the most beautiful in the world. It houses an extremely valuable collection of source material with 1,400 manuscripts, 530 incunabula, as well as 200,000 books.
The late baroque library was often described as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and is certainly one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria.
Just as impressive are "The Four Last Things"; the sculptures by Josef Stammel represent death, the Last Judgment, heaven and hell.

Das Benediktiner Stift Admont wurde gegründet 1074 und ist das älteste Kloster der Steiermark, Österreich. Die Stiftskirche ist dem Regensburger Dom nachempfunden. Heute ist im Stift ein Gymnasium untergebracht
Die Stiftsbibliothek ist die größte und vermutlich auch die schönste der Welt. Sie beherbergt eine äußerst wertvolle Sammlung von Quellmaterial mit 1.400 Handschriften, 530 Inkunabeln, sowie die 200.000 Bücher.
Der spätbarocke Bibliothekssaal wurde oft als „Achtes Weltwunder" bezeichnet und ist sicherlich eines der bedeutendsten Kulturdenkmäler Österreichs.
Ebenso beeindruckend sind die „Vier letzten Dinge", die Skulpturen mit Darstellung von Tod, Jüngstem Gericht, Himmel und Hölle von Josef Stammel.
