    She is a survivor. She overcame her early troubles, had a relatively long career with critical acclaim for her acting, if not always for her films, a long life, and she hung onto her money. I think she’s smarter than most actresses.

      And an African- American who pulled the wool over old time racist Hollywood's eyes. Sadly, like the much more famous and just as beautiful and talented Sandra Dee she was also an alcoholic.

    Wow this is great. I used to watch Dick Cavett all the time. Looking now he seems so awkward throughout the whole show but maybe that's a part of his appeal. Carson was too slick sometimes, Cavett held conversations, on a higher level, Looking at the commercials and the promos for ABC was like going back in a time machine.

      @waynej2608 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree. I'm a huge fan of both actresses, but I also think that Tuesday would've been a better fit, as Bonnie. She definitely had the acting chops, on par with Faye. She also is closer, physically to Bonnie Parker. But, it's water under the bridge. Tuesday never appeared to fully embrace the whole 'star trip'. I I once read that she passed on the part, anticipating it would be a major hit, and didn't want all the notoriety, that would go with it. She gravitated towards smaller, independent type films like Play it as it Lays, Pretty Poison, Serial... Her films were interesting and worthwhile and she always turned in a first rate performance. I thought she was brilliant in Looking for Mr. Goodbar, playing a supporting role, as Diane Keaton's (equally awesome) younger sister.

      @@waynej2608 In retrospect, I think Faye Dunaway looked at a little too glamorous for Bonnie and Clyde--wasn't Tuesday Warren Beatty's first choice? I think she was also the first choice for Rosemarys Baby, and although Mia Farrow was great, Tuesday would have also been great in that, and she had already worked with Ruth Gordon in Lord Love a Duck. It's funny, I noticed later that Tuesday sometimes speaks a little like Ruth Gordon. And of course, she was also the first, or one of the first, choices for Lolita, as was Hayley Mills. Tuesday was have been perfect for Lolita, maybe too perfect[--when asked why she turned down the role, she said, "I don't have to play it, I am Lolita."

      @chumdog90 - I vaguely remember the bright and cheerful sponsor's song, "Drive your Chevrolet across the USA, America's the greatest land of all!" She sang it with such gust and sincerity. But I had not realized until just this very minute that her talk-show charm lay in the natural, unforced manner of her conversation. Dinah was not "on." She was not "performing" the role of being a talk show guest. She was just herself and that was no naturally lovely!

      I don’t think “bimbo” is the right term for her early characters, which are usually described as “sex kitten.” She was sexy, but always had good dialogue in her roles. These roles served her well until she grew into more serious characters. I was impressed with her work in the televised play “The Rainmaker,” which is completely against type. She had a fairly long career because of her acting ability.

Also, loved her as Thalia Menninger in The Dobie Gillis Show. I must also add that A Safe Place is actually a fascinating movie. It's very artsy and bizarre so kind of got dismissed by the mainstream critics. But, the visuals and camera shots of Tuesday Weld are breathtaking in this movie and she is terrific in it as is the rest of the cast. You have to sort of watch A Safe Place a few times and allow yourself to interpret the movie the way you want. Anyway, a must for Tuesday Weld fans. I was just watching the DVD of the movie Tuesday is promoting here on the Dick Cavett show; A Safe Place. In the commentary section, director Henry Jaglom says Tuesday Weld was one of the greatest actresses Hollywood ever created. He also said Tuesday Weld, in his opinion, was the most talented actress of her generation! Only her unwillingness to follow the guidelines within the Hollywood system prevented Tuesday Weld from being a superstar actress as she turned down many huge roles that would become huge movies such as Lolita, Bonnie and Clyde, Cactus Flower, Rosemary's Baby, True Grit, and Bob, Carol, Ted, and Alice.

    Weld is in a vanguard all her own here, confidently and without shame revealing her emergence from dysfunction and alcohol dependency in a confessional style that (five years before Betty Ford's honesty made dependency confession palatable) most celebrities would take another fifteen years to master on the talk show-book promo circuit; the difference is that here she has nothing to gain other than her own honesty - she's not working for career capital, only finding a gentle wholistic voice for talking about how screwed up fame can be (and, again, way ahead of her time, turning down a major role because she needed time with her kid) - amazing.

    • @fredbloggs6080
      @fredbloggs6080 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She also said about that and another, that she turned down Bonnie and Clyde because she was nursing, but also because it reeked of success--and did they think she really wanted that? Same with Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice. She also turned down Lolita (saying "I didn't need to play it, I am a Lolita), and Rosemarys Baby.

    Tuesday Weld was extraordinarily beautiful, like Sylvie Vartan, France Gall, Cheryl Ladd, and so many others. There was an unauthorized bio book on her called Pretty Poison by Floyd Conner from '95, so they didn't mention it since the interview was in '71. She was also a good singer as well as a great actress.

Costar Terry Thomas said Tuesday's behavior was the the most frightening thing he had ever seen in his life.

    Well hello and happened back then myself being in N.Y. watching these shows trapped on tv and those programs from Cavett with Lennon and the likes ; I have to tell you I not in N.Y. now and well I m born in Austria border with italy 1949 but I am Italian citizen , those times we were in america dreaming as ourself musicians working in europe with recording singer s , but
    the Dream of being in america fascinated us and of course tv shows , and getting to see great artists performing and the likes.
    Well now the point is that after so many years I found real silly all the thing s they were talking Cavett and weld speaking things so wordly and superficial like being actors or anything else so important or the competing entertainment buss , and of course
    Ignoring things like the unuverse spirituality and whats humans are all about , really dumb times and
    Naive s those years , guess Lennon had other things in his head 😂 ;
    Plus I did nt realize back then
    Cavett wearing a wig 😂
