    When you admitted you drive away slowly in case you forgot to unhook something, I think EVERY one of us farmers had flashbacks. The amount of buildings, hydraulic lines, hoses, fuel hoses, and in an unusual case ... an electric golf cart that I've drug along with me bring back memories.

    I haven’t mentioned it before but I really love the humor! Like the time you cleaned out the Kaboda and looked into the barrel at the pop cans and said “It’s probably time for me to look within and evaluate my choices”. And finding the occasional soda can in an ear if corn or some other well placed spot! The hoop shots…etc. your humor isn’t lost on us. We love it!!! 🤗🤣🥰

    Excellent video Eric! The technology in sprayers these days is amazing. Liked seeing the work on the silo unloader. Farming requires a lot of expertise from other fields - always amazed at how easy you make it all sound. You're quite an educator, and a great promoter of good ag practices and farming. IF a viewer cant appreciate the care a farmer takes when he goes "no till" then you never saw a farmer from 40 years ago. You should appreciate what a good steward of the land a modern farmer is. Glyophosphate applied as directed and as needed is smart and safe.

    Ah yes, short arming the Goliath unloader….I’ve been there and done that a few times. That is why I tried to never let the level of the feed get too low in the silo causing a collapse of the “cavern or dome” above the unloader. I would always try to get the silo refilled before that happened. But then at least once a year I would have to pull the unloader out of the silo and onto the stands with a winch to inspect the chains, and change out any worn or broken knives. So I am impressed that after cleaning out the silo, you & your dad both climbed into the silo and worked on this job as a team. That is awesome and it makes total sense to save a lot of time and extra work removing the unloader. As always your cows and crops are all looking great! Thanks for the ride on your sprayer rig, and have a blessed day!

    I'm sure you get asked this a lot, but i can't seem to figure out an answer. When you're spraying and running over the corn, is it killing it or does it bounce back? I feel like i'd just crush everything on accident if i was doing that. i notice a lot of fertilizer type deals they are running through the fields without worry and just running over the grain/corn/whatever else it is.

    Back in my days on our Iowa farm in the 60's and 70's we did not use chemical weed control and instead we used mechanical weed control with rotary hoes and cultivators. Chemicals were just getting started at that time. I don't remember any farmers in our area in Iowa used chemicals. Some farmers even did it the old fashioned way and walked the rows with a garden hoe, which was a family affair and you would see the whole family out there in the field in the early summer evenings after it cooled down. None of us were certified organic but our crops were definitely organic. I am not even sure if there was such a thing as organic certification then. Times have changed and I am not sure it's for the better. Simpler, healthier times that were not rushed.

    • @E.lectricityNorth
      @E.lectricityNorth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has to go back to that. Most won't sacrifice until they are forced to--and it's coming. And in contrasting traditional vs modern, the modern farmers are not the problem either--they are in fact feeding more and more people each and every year, with improvements in knowledge and practice, given the tasks at hand--witness Eric and Dad and their predecessors...living examples of improvements which are tangible and measurable. But even though they valiantly feed the masses, the evils that have overtaken society are based in too many people disconnected from the land. If people still did as your family did, organic farming for all intents and purposes--most of the plagues that have begun since the advent of mass production and mass consumption would not exist.
      The seduction of the easy path is the culprit.

      @E.lectricityNorth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@svenjorgensenn8418 It's true--better food options exist. However the farmer who, like Eric, uses glyphosate, is not the problem. The problem is that the market that he sells to demands that the poisons be used. They demand it because they want cheap and accessible, mass-produced food. If the same market demanded organic, expensive food, then he would be able to grow that, because he could afford to have higher input costs since his income would be higher. Pretty simple economics.
      Why does the market demand cheap, polluted and mass-produced food? That is the question that needs to be asked. Eric is simply doing the best he can to make a living, while doing as much as he can to minimize the unhealthy aspects of mass production agriculture. He even outlined the measure he takes to reduce overall usage of glyphosate, and to reduce the amount of toxins that make it into the soil and water table.

    Suggestion for you instead of building an entirely new bunker silo or extending those or busting out the bottom end you could install a new harvest store silo and then between a feeding when you’re getting ready to harvest bust out the last of that bunker clean the mixer out and transfer all of that leftover to a shorter Harvestore silo then you can also hook it straight up to the mixing machine conveyor and if you still have your old mixer not sure if you traded that in instead of pulling off the bunker wall all the time you could once a month or once a week bust a punch off fill up that additional silo and make feeding just that little bit easier I’m a weirdo who likes efficiency in the long run it might end up saving you money in fuel because you only travel over there once a week with the skid steer and tractor instead of every day two or three times a day
