I've always thought of the actual building of the models as being 50% of the hobby. There is a bit of pride to be gleaned as you fly a model you built, especially as it flies past you about 20 feet up. That "I made that" glow is wonderful.... There are also those who enjoy the building more than the flying.
Well done Mark, excellent video. Don't think I've ever seen one tackling this precise topic. Will be interested in seeing the remainder of the series. Must say I find this early stage the most daunting, not only interpreting the plan, but deciding the sequence of the building.
Great video. Getting back to flying after a long break. And once I get a build area sorted. Will be back to building from plans. Cheating with a kit to start with though. Lol. But keen to build a gentle lady glider.
Great video, windy weather doesnt need to stop the modelling fun. I was once told to scratch build a few models before trying something as complex as a kit 😂.
Hi Mark, thanks for the comment, yes, great to hide away in the workshop in this wet and windy weather, hopefully better weather is just around the corner!!!!! hahahaha
I built several kits in a row and they were making me lazy. My last three builds all came from plans. E It's a bit of extra work, but I built planes that are not available as a kit.
Thanks Mark, excellent video! Check and recheck the plans - spot on. Wish I’d seen this video a year ago. Walked into a couple very significant plan errors on my first scratch build. Very much looking forward to this series.
Good sound advice there Mark. I never trust any plan I am going to build from. Many times I completely redraw fuselage formers or wing ribs that are drawn badly. Looking forward to seeing your next installment. Terry
I enjoyed the video. Choosing a plan is always my dilemma. You did a good job of explaining what to look for. I just finished building a plane from Model Airplane News plans. I am already looking at plans to choose what I want to build next. So many plans.....so little time.
Hi Dave, thanks for the comment, really pleased you liked the video. I agree, so many good plans out there, I get lost sometimes looking through plans, my build list is unrealistically long! Hahahaha, but great fun 😀

I visit my local printers/coppiers. You need to find a place that will print large scale plans, A0 and A1, the best place is where they print builders or landscape development plans. Always takes a bit of searching around, goodluck
Hi Mark, I have the Tiger Moth Plan 70' Span 90 Size by Farooq Ahmad. It's a very detailed and easy to read plan. But as a newbie, I don't know how to scale it to the proper size. And I don't have AutoCad to do so, is there perhaps other ways to it? Your help will really be appreciated thank you in advance.
If the file is a pdf it is likely that you will just need to print it at 100% qand the size will be correct. But you can check this using the measuring tool in pdf reader, and measuring the wingspan, if when doing this you get the corect 70" then the plan is 100%. Also, using the pdf reader you can look in the properties to see the plans overall size. If it is an AutoCad file, I am sorry I can't help. Good luck getting it sorted
Hi Mark, one more question please. Going to the print shop, and everything is properly set on the printer landscape, scale 100%...etc. printing the plans, will everything come out to the full size for me to use? I really like your method of just cutting it out and paste it balsa.

Totally agree, building is so rewarding and a great sense of achievement when it flies well, thanks for the comment 😀
Brings back memories my Dad started in the sixties. This was the only way you did it back then. I truly believe he enjoyed building more than flying.
Thanks for the comment, good memories

I have just found the plans on OuterZone and had a look. You just need to print them at 100% size as the plans are full size
@@MarkRobinson555 Hi Mark, thank you very much really appreciate everything you done thank you.

Yes, if printed 100% then it should be the correct size for you to use, having a 70" wingspan.
very cool. checkout my video of my trixter beam build. getting ready to start a bellanca cruisemaster!
Thanks for the comment, pleased you like the video
If you would build it with 0,0,0 it will fly a lot better!!!!!
That depends on the model. A Tiger Moth certainly wouldn't.....
