- Baby Hippo Falls In Love With Orphaned Rhino | When Charlie the baby hippo lost his mom, he was rescued by a rhino orphanage and became best friends with a little rhino. There was only one problem - Charlie grew up thinking he was a rhino too! Honestly, my favorite part is that the rescuers allowed them to be kids first, then taught them to be what they are second. It is a very human approach, but also, kind of beautiful at the same time.

100% agreed. I go here often to get away from the narcissism of society. It shows just how much the natural world brings out the best in humanity, IF we embrace & protect it, instead of exploiting it for something as stupid as money.

Even after the hippo realized it was a hippo it still loved the rhino. That just shows they truly love one another.
I have never seen hippos and rhinos together before. . They seem so natural together ..
rhinos are one of my most favorite animals and it kills me knowing that their numbers just keep dwindling and dwindling due to poachers. I can only hope that whatever interventions are being done is enough to keep them from extinction. This story was so sweet and adorable 🤗♥️

The only solution to ending poaching lies with their greedy and vain wealthy customers who are responsible for poaching to begin with. These poachers are not well off like their customers and have chosen a bad life for at least sympathizable reasons.
However, many of their customers relish in the idea that a hard sacrifice was made for their sake as a way to fulfill their vanity. These people are the real problem. There is no excuse to defend their wilfully harmful extravagance. Imagine losing rhinos to extinction because some insensitive people can have bragging rights about how "precious" what they have is.

My friend likes his eggs poached. He poached two dozen from old man MacAlistair's henhouse last week. Got his butt shot full of rock salt, too.

It is so heart breaking to see so many orphaned babies due to human scum poachers. They are disappearing even faster day by day because of humans.
Sadan's baby. True. But the way humans do it is massive, fast, unnatural and cruel. Droughts, starvation, fights and abandoned situation give other animals chance for food which recycles it's own way. Humans just waste almost everything.
They aren't disappearing because of humans. They are disappearing because of certain humans. Let's not judge us all by our weakest examples. This video shows that people are also working to save them.

What do you think we are doing? Just breathing air? We take their food sources, water, territories and everything.

And so many more are doing what they can to help creatures such as this. You make it seem like all humans, of which you are one, are out to destroy the world and everything in it. And then make it seem like it's wrong to build a house out of wood. We are the caretakers of this world, which does not mean we should run and hide from it. Living in a cave so that we'll never cut down a tree again is not the enlightened path of the most intelligent being on this planet. Certain humans are the problem, not all humans.

It’s extremely interesting to me because, naturally, they dont exactly like each other, rhinos tend to charge at them thinking they are challengers. This turns the whole order upside down and creates something alive and new, and it’s beautiful

It's so sad to think that they are almost better off staying in sanctuaries rather then being released. How long will they have before some coward shoots them for a trophy?
Their biggest threat isn't trophy hunting, it's the demand for their horns in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which doesn't even have any scientific evidence supporting it! It will be a great tragedy when they go extinct, and a dark spot on humanity.
How long? Never the southern white rhino is not even close to endangered so chances are he won’t be shot

Trophy hunters pay thousands to hunt specific rhinos that are interfering with the likelihood of the species surviving long term.

As a Finnish American and a Hippopotamus (as well as Rhino) lover, I certainly appreciate the selection of "Moomin" as the name of Charlie's female companion. What a great pair of friends both she and Makhosi seem to have been for him! I hope they have all been/still are doing well now, as we approach 2023.
But honestly aww they’re so cute, and I’m glad Charlie gets along with both of them
So special to see these two species can become friends and help each other to grow strong and reduce anxiety! Love and friendship make everything possible!

Well he would think he's a Rino wouldn't he? Without their horns hippos and rinos look almost identical. And neither of them have great eyesight. Heck the rino probably still can't tell the difference.

That’s what I was thinking, the hippo wouldn’t see itself probably to know he looks different and just assume he is a rhino. If it’s smart enough he might even think he’s just a deformed/different rhino.
@@Funny-iq9bq Hippos kill more humans than any other non human animal. One of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt was even killed by one. Wild Hippos are definitely meant to be left alone and go nowhere near or look at in the eyes. They look like giant pit bulls though lol so cute, and babies who grow up and are released into the wild sometimes come visit their rescuers from time to time, they form strong bonds.
