Hi Stu - Another question for you. On the main Log4OM-2 screen down in the bottom right hand corner where the link is to the database. So each time you enter a QSO, this database gets updated? If I want to follow the database link to see what's in it, do I need special software to access it? Thanks for your help!
Hi Lane, The file is an SQLite data file. There are a couple of tools you can download here: sqlitebrowser.org/about/ sqlitestudio.pl/ Make sure you make a copy of it before you start playing. :) Stu AG6AG
Hi Steve, There are several built in mapping features available, from locating and plotting a single call you have in the entry window, to showing a map of all the QSOs in the log. Poke around and I bet you'll be surprised! Stu AG6AG
Great video. Just learning about this. If I can suggest, for us old guys…….please expand your screen your presenting from to “full screen”. That small screen and print is Extremely hard to see. Thanks & 73’s EricK7AZQ
Hi Stu, have a couple of questions. (1) Do I need the CAT control of my FTDX10 to automatically log QSOs? I wanted to try out the QSO features first. (2) When I do set up CAT control, is it required to use OmniRig with just one transceiver? Thanks so much for your help! --- Lane Davis
Hi Lane, 1) Yes and no... If you want the frequency band and mode automatically updated then yes. If you don't mind putting that info in manually then no. 2) The short answer is you can use either hamlib or omnirig (TPI as well but not really easy to setup). Omnirig is the easiest to setup for CAT. It also has a configuration for your FTDX10. Stu AG6AG
Hi Stu - On the main Log4OM screen where you enter the call sign for the QSO, there's a "Start" field and "End" field which shows the date and time of the QSO. During the start of the QSO, I enter the call sign of the contact and then hit the TAB key. Once the QSO is finished, I hit the Enter key. I see the data for the QSO but for some reason the Start and End time are the same. I must be doing something out of sequence or something wrong. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help Stu! You're a life saver!
Great Video! I'm just getting started with Log4OM with my FTDX10 transceiver. Once I get Log4OM completely set up, what is the overall QSO logging procedure? (1) Initiate QSO, (2) Will Log4OM capture the QSO's frequency, call sign, etc, of the person I'm contacting, log it automatically or do I capture this data manually at first? I'm new at this game.
Hi Lane, Once you get Log4OM talking to our FTDX10, and get your lookup stuff configured for QRZ or other source, you should just need to put in the call sign. Once it completes the lookup, then hit tab and your QSO start time is set as well as on the rest of the contact information. You can add comments and other info (like sota or iota IDs) manually. Once you have closed the QSO, just hit enter and all is entered into the log! Enjoy! Stu AG6AG
Hi Stu - Keep up the good work! Just a couple of questions: (1) I've installed OmniRig (Latest Version 1.20) and configured it for my FTDX10. I installed OmniRig BEFORE I installed Log4OM (Current Release of 2.17). Set up Log4OM designating OmniRig. I get the green "CAT" designation in the lower left corner and the green circle in the lower right corner. Try as I might, I cannot get the frequencies to show up - always says "Offline". Using Windows 10 and my laptop is connected to my rig via a USB Cable. I do have administrative rights. Any thoughts? (2) I understand that I can still download QSOs even though I might not see the frequencies on the main screen. Is this correct? Thanks for your help!
Hi Lane, If the CAT indicator is green it should work... The only thing I can think to verify is that you are using the current drivers off the Icom website. Sometimes they have custom firmware in their chips... Stu AG6AG
Help I'm not getting any QSO saved or showing up once I hit enter. Not sure if it's do to my SQLite set up. I have know clue what that is I made a new file named it hamlogs it past when I hit test. I am lost my friend.
Hi Pawoodsman, This sounds like you do not have a Database created and open... If you look in the lower bottom of the program window, you should see the current database. If not, goto "File" -> "Open/New Database" and either Open a database or create a New one. Then click "Test" to verify that the DB is connected to the program. Then click "Save and apply" in the top left and then Exit. Let me know it that does it! Stu AG6AG
@@AG6AG I've done that says past test but nothing. I enter a callsign and after it generates I hit enter. QSO log is blank. I like the layout more than HRD and it's free not sure what is happening.
Hi PAWoodman, So, the only other thing I can think of is that you are looking at the "Worked before" screen and not the "Recent QSO's" screen? Just a thought, Stu AG6AG
Hi PAWoodsman, Strange... Well I'm stumped. I've only seen this if the user configuration isn't saved, or if there is no log loaded... This is just weird. The only direction I can point you is to to go under the "Help" menu and click "Realtime Log". Once you have done that, type in a call sign and verify your mode and wavelength are set, then hit enter and see what the realtime log gives you. Hopefully you can get a hint on why it's not saving. Not sure why you didn't connect LOG4OM to the rig.....showing OFFLINE.... ??? How do you get it ONLINE would be a good tip as well. Benn working on getting ALL 3 to work together, WSJT-X, LOG4OM and GridTracker on my Yaesu FT-897 with no luck, can get certain things to work, but NEVER all 3. LOG4OM will not change frequency or band...
Hi Rick, The answer to why it shows "OFFILINE" is that I did the video from a virtual machine on my main radio computer and I can not use COM ports in a virtual machine... Here is a video on setting up Omnirig for use with any program (including Log4OM2) that uses it: th-cam.com/video/q-OSiqD75Hc/w-d-xo.html As for the use of WSJT-x and GridTracker with Log4OM, I would assume as long as you choose "Omnirig" as your CAT control method for both and make sure you are connecting the correct ADIF file to Log4OM everything should work fine. Hope that clears things up a bit... Stu AG6AG
TOTALLY frustrated with Log4OM. Not a single video or ANY Documentation on how to set Log4OM for "ARRL Field DAY". Perhaps it can't. I see no facility for entering "Class or Section". Amazing, for an otherwise good Logger. You'd think there would be at least a way to build your own template. Too bad.
Hi Wirewizard, Yeah, Log4OM is a great daily logger with amazing auto import and export capabilities... It kicks butt on getting all the info you could ever want for a QSO. That said, it falls short with contest logging. My use N1MM+ for all the contests I participate in and have great results. I strongly recommend it for Field Day.
