Without animal testing, myself and all kids who are diagnosed with Type I diabetes would be dead within 2-3 months after diagnosis. Ending all animal testing will cost human lives. It's important that people calling for that understand the consequences. Does it need to be better regulated, yes. Should some areas that use animals to research stop, yes. Do we need to update our animal welfare laws, yes.
That's when I also learned that "debarking" was a thing, through a rescue in Northern California who specializes in the dogs in testing facilities, mostly (as I haven't seen other breeds) beagles...... How you could do that as your job just floors me....

my lab beagle has also blossomed absolutely beautifuly. these past 2 and a half years with him have been the best of my life. it’s so great seeing how comfortable he is these days compared to how he was back the :( we need to end animal testing. it is unnecessary.
One of the best compliments I ever got was from a vet who remarked after seeing my rescue dog a few times for vaccinations "you have given her confidence!"
We had our lab rescue for 12 years. The first time she touched grass was on our farm. It didn't take her very long to adjust to her new life, and she became the boss dog of the farm. A friend of mine has an ex-lab Beagle. He was “only” tested on (I mean abused!) for 10 months, but the impact was huge! He is still afraid of men and has many other issues. When I was in college, I worked in a lab in Pennington, NJ where they test on guinea pigs and rabbits. It was a part time job to help paid for my tuition doing menial job. I was asked to make copies of photos that showed testing on guinea pigs, rats and rabbits. Couldn’t stomach it, left the job and started to participate in a protest against animal cruelty every chance I got. I recalled we protested against animal testing against Huntington lab in NJ where they tested on beagles and also in Trenton NJ against dog meat industries. Yes, some Americans eat dogs. What haunts me the most was an article about a lab dog named Max and the shitty cruel things they did on him of which eventually his body failed. They did very terrible things to him and sewed him up over and over again. The deeds that humans imposed on these innocent loving creatures are just despicable. I don’t ever use make up. It still haunt me to this day. Typing this brings tears to my eyes once again.
