Hey Louis. I have a Q. Please could you explain why you don't need to use shielded wire for jumpers? My electronics is like decades old high school level but I was just thinking that without shielding how does the wire not cause shorts in parts of other circuits/components that it may meet along the way. IE if it moves after you've placed it. Is it that the liklihood of it moving is crazy low, or that it coming into contact with something along the way is for some reason that I dont understand, inconsequential, a combination of both, or something else entirely. Cheers!
It is shielded wire. This is a common misconception because of the color of the enamel on The Wire. People think it is not shielded. If it was not shielded, everything would spark the moment I turned it on. Check the link in the description for this wire, it is what I use. It took me a long time to figure out what wire I am supposed to use, in the beginning I was using all of the wrong stuff. Since this is a common question I pinned the comment. Very good question!
@@rossmanngroup That clears that up then! Glad my basic high school stuff was still serving me at least somewhat correctly. Cheers man. Long time lurker. Love your whole vibe. Easter greetings from Switzerland.
shielded or coated? shielded wire usually means a wire with a grounding wire/braid wrapped around the cable, such that outside noise/electrical interference is shielded from entering the cable and causing issues with the signals being transmitted inside the wire. a coated wire is just that. wire that is coated with some kind of coating applied such that it insulates, and thus reduces the ability of the wire to conduct electricity to another object. now there are many ways this can be expanded upon, but as Louis stated, the wire he used was coated with an enamel layer to insulate the conductor from other conductors.
"The fan is spinning which as you know that's pretty much testing done here there's not much more to it when it comes to Rossmann repair quality control!" I love the excitement in your face when you said that lol
I cant imagine a title thats more relatable than the one belonging to this video. The polorized lens is working fantastic, btw. Your viewers make great suggestions.
I just wanted to say that watching your videos has helped me to learn soldering. My projects have been small, but I am getting better at it every time I try. Also, I called your store a few weeks ago to ask a solder related question and they were really professional and was a joy to talk to
Louis - The component self alignment you rely on is due to surface tension of liquidus solder, not flux. You would observe self alignment in presence of a very small amount of flux or none at all, depending on ability to directly heat terminals and pads simultaneously - not needing flux for heat transfer or cleaning oxides for good wetting.
You always reference the ultrasonic cleaning. I'd love to see the process, or at least a before and after of some of the boards you do sometimes. Watching you clean up solder pads is super satisfying. I think seeing the finished product would really add to that.
Love your simplified explanations. People just don't realise the amount of work that actually goes into repairing something even if it seems to be a 'simple' problem. I'm surprised that you use magnet wire, I couldn't trust the insulation on that to remain undamaged (maybe I'm just being paranoid). Most wire bodge repairs I've seen use a wire with a visible plastic insulation that you can solder through, I think it's called wire wrapping, or kynar wire.
Don’t think the polarising filter will work on led light - unless it is polarised at source first. Sunlight is polarised - but a cloudy day mess that up so less effective. Polarising filter won’t mess up autofocus but a linear filter will.
The polarising filter removes only the reflections from dielectric surfaces. I can't remember exactly the details from the physics class but what I am sure is that the light reflected from dielectric and metal surfaces differ in way they are polarised and filters are designed to remove reflections from windows, glass, water, etc.
I am glad to see you guys keeping your heads high during this crucial time....me and my wife love your videos here in Pakistan...Keep it up...and God Bless you! Cheers

Polarising filters will remove reflection of light which is off axxis of the polarising angle... So front light...will always shine back... It will however limit contrast loss from light leaks and coming from sides.
Hi Louis, awesome videos! So many laptop brands but all looks almost the same from inside nowadays... The only thing I can tell the difference is the color of the motherboard (blue, black, red, green...), what is soldered, the version of Ram, GPU, CPU etc... Of course I am nowhere close to be an computer expert but if I want to buy a laptop from Lenovo, apple, Microsoft, Dell, Huawei, Xiaomi... How can I tell what chip have the best quality or will last longer having less problems? Are you able to tell if a motherboard was well manufactured by just looking at it?🤔 Cheers! ✌️

Hey Louis! Long time viewer from Sydney Australia, been given the classic runaround from apple regarding a fried MacBook, would it be worth while sending it to you? 🤔 they want $900 to fix it in Australia..
I'm ACMT qualified and I'm just wondering how much cheaper your services are? For what type of repairs? And, if Apple detects your work and voids the warranty? My guess is any type of circuit board, you would be cheaper. But not for displays or keyboards because it decreases labor time and you don't get a discount.
Apple detecting RG work means they (Apple) already refused to fix this device and it's out of warranty anyway. As for displays you're probably right, but Louis said there are limitations on parts on sold even to authorized workshops
@John Doe, I'm also ACMT and ACiT certified. Louis's services are much cheaper then Apple. For example I have a friend whose MacBook Pro stopped charging and It's out of warranty. Apple quoted them $850 where Rossmann repair Group quoted them $300, a lot cheaper. To answer your question it will technically void the warranty. You can read more about it here on their FAQ page: www.rossmanngroup.com/faq/ towards the bottom. Also They do repair/replace displays and keyboards. You can check their website under MacBook repair NYC drop down menu to get an idea of what they repair: www.rossmanngroup.com/ I hope this helps.
We used to be way cheaper for screens until apple went full-cunt and stopped LCDs with these EDIDs from working in the newer OSes. The screens are difficult to find as well which brought them up from reasonable($48-$96) to insane($355-$450). For certain machines it is actually written into our canned responses now that the customer would be better off going to Apple. For boards, we are definitely way cheaper if it does not require a replacement.
BTW: Can it cause water damage to hardware which is not spill proof like MacBooks or older iPhones etc when you spray a alcohol water mixture (let's say 70:30) on them? Or will the alcohol take the water with it when evaporating?
