- I loved The Shining! I also got hooked on the ending song of the film. I wanted to create an atmosphere/ambiance where you are all alone at the Overlook Hotel and then this song plays from the Gold Room.

This tune actually has beautiful chords of majors, minors, 7ths and 9ths and neighboring notes. When I saw this movie back in 1981, I never paid attention to this song because as the credits rolled, we were getting up to leave the theater. But now, as I pay attention to the tune, it's actually a nice tune with nice chords. I like how towards the end, the saxes slide to minor chords and major 7ths.. yes, I am a musician -- lol

I love how the trumpets at the end introduce the violins and the saxes join in and the violins drop off, as the saxes continue down the chord progression into the major 7th ending with the 7th note resolving to a major note, followed by the piano trickling down with major and minor notes.

bobby ottenthal It is a little more complicated and confusing than just a father going mad. The hotel took control and “nature” took it’s course.
Better need to read the book. The truth is that Kubrick made his own version of the novel. But it is a great movie, I'm not complaining

Diego Granados I personally love both versions. I can understand completely why Stephen King wouldn’t like the film though as it was more based on his book and not a full on adaptation. Kubrick took the main and more important elements of the book and filled in the rest himself.

It’s really fucking good by the way. It isn’t filled with jumpscares like all the other so called horror films of this era. It is eerie and unsettling but at the same time, amazingly good. Check it out FOR SURE!

Small Fry It’s a shame to be honest as it’s a good fucking film. It’s not on level with Kubrick’s The Shining (obviously) but it’s still incredible and when this song played, holy shit! I got a little choked up if I’m being honest.

Walking through the halls of the Overlook, I heard this song being faintly played towards The Gold Room. Just before I came downstairs, Jack had broken out happiness and gone insane. Breaking the door, a symbol of breaking his love for us. The axe being the motivation to kill us.
I slowly made my way down the hall, shivering as I held onto the knife I had stabbed his hand with. The wind was raspy and had been howling through the dark and cold winters night. In between my sobs, I could clearly hear old chants, it was as if the hotel was trying to sacrifice us to the steak. Stopping dead in my tracks, the room was filled with people, all wearing masquerade masks. Their eyes dark, cold, and lifeless. Screaming had filled the once silent room, once I saw Jack. It was clear as day, he wore a dark black suit, no mask, and his hair was slicked back. How could he have gotten dressed up so fast? How could people be in the hotel? Fear had seduced me, for I ran to find Danny.

The melancholy but upbeat light orchestral music reverberated through the halls of the old asylum. Creating an eerie and dark feeling to the place as you slowly made your way along the darkened corridor. Sweat dripped from your face as the thick soupy air hung in your nostrils. Filling them with the unmistakable smells of iron and rotting flesh. As you neared the end of the hallway the soothing voice of a singer lost to time, filled your ears. A dim light shone from under the old wooden door where the music was coming from. Do you dare to open the door? As you did, you could see a man standing over a workbench, humming along to Midnight And the Stars and You. He was dressed as a doctor, tho as he turned, his look was the complete opposite. The coat was blood stained and ruffled, and a manic look shined in his brown eyes. "Ah, ive been expecting you," he said. Swiping a dirty rag over the large kitchen knife he held. His tone was sinister as he started toward you, the orchestral music peaking. "This will only take a moment"
