As well as 44 slam singles titles between them all there is also 14 womens doubles grand slam titles between the williams sisters . 13 womens doubles title for Hingis and 7 mixed doubles titles! And also 2 mixed doubles titles each for the Williams sisters . Scary talent on that court!
Martina Hingis is one the greatest doubles players of all time. Even though Seles wad not vomfortable at the net, they still managed to beat the very powerful sisters.
Every time they showed the score, I was surprised to see that Seles/Hingis were winning. JOT Tennis showed about 3 times more Williams highlights than Seles/Hingis, giving the impression that Williams sisters were dominating.
This is a really high quality match but I feel like there aren't many lobs used.. you can clearly see them closing in every time.. if they played now they would have been lobbed by Hsieh or Siniakova every time of the week.. seems like tho the quality of tennis was higher back then
Yes tremendous talent on this court. 4 of the best ever. Amazing. Very impressive that they were all (except for Seles) such accomplished doubles players - requires a different mode, a different mindset than singles. And a heck of a lot of stamina and focus to be playing both singles and doubles (for Hingis and the Williams sisters) in so many grand slam tournaments one after the other. What an era, what love for the game among this group.
And just by that analysis, that's why on numbers alone in both singles and doubles and what it required to play both and win both at the same events, Martina Navratilova is the greatest of all time

Interesting video - especially the final set. 90% of the winners shown for it were the Williams sisters, but it was Hingis and Seles who actually won that set. In fact, the VAST majority of the points for the entire video were for the Williams, even though Hingis and Seles obviously played the winning tennis, since they won the match, but so few of their winning shots/plays were shown. It creates an implication for the viewers that the Williams girls were going to win the match. Strange.......

Not a lot of lobs. Could have made the match easier. Also, i see most balls were being directed towards hingis and seles to the body at close range. And even if the williams sisters hit, i did not see them apologize like raise a palm hand. Maybe they did but i just did not see it. During this time, the williams sisters were indeed talented and we all know there are one of the all time greats, if not the greatest, but they had a lot of learning when it comes to courtesy here. At least now when serena knew she hit someone with her fast ball, she apologizes now. As for venus, nope she still does not do that a lot, even when she had lucky balls hit the net then goes in, she never raises her palm, lol! unless it is a really bad hit. Well it might be because they always experienced discrimination for their skin color, and all the rest, but they have come a long way.
Saw this match live. It's a bit ironic the results of this match, because Serena in an interview bragged about how they (the Williams sisters) never get beat in doubles before the match started.

Not really at all; her volley technique was much better here than for much of her singles career. Great sense for poaching and can put the ball away with traditional volley technique OR the swing volley, both of which can be highly effective. Only in the match tiebreak did she make some bad errors, but at least she went for it... Think again...
