- In this video our Nursery Production Supervisor Aaron Selby demonstrates the technique of cleaning fern spore from the chaff. This important step helps to prevent inoculated soil from growing bacteria and fungi. The amount of spore in this video is quite outrageous and does not represent typical amount collected from most fern species.
Plant Delights Nursery is an award winning nursery in Raleigh, NC near Garner. We specialize in rare, and unusual perennials and we strive to carry a wide selection of exotic plants, cold hardy tropical plants, and native plants. Many of our best perennials are available nowhere else in the US as they represent rare plants collected by Plant Delights founder Tony Avent during his more than 60 plant hunting expeditions to places like China, Crete, Taiwan, South Africa and Argentina or distributed by some of the many specialty plant organizations of which Plant Delights is a member.

Good stuff, there isn't much on YT about fern propagation so I appreciate the sharing. Would love to see the rest of the process also. Thanks.
Hello! Aaron briefly discusses our fern propagation process in this video: th-cam.com/video/emeTa6Thirs/w-d-xo.html
This is the most useful propagation video I've seen and interesting maybe I can find more videos of spore propagation if I look . Thank you so much. 😊
Thanks very helpful.
You're welcome!
Thank you for all these wonderful videos. They are so educational. While researching how to root Browallia from cuttings (for my personal use only) I encountered this word - ukortneniya - and have been unable to find its definition. Can you help with telling me its meaning? Thanks for considering this.
Hello! It sounds like a misspelling of a Russian word 'ukoreneniya' - which means 'rooted cuttings.'
Thank you! This certainly simplifies the information!@@Plantdelights
¡No te ofendas!
Can I assume I would use this process with Staghorn ferns.
This method works for all types of fern spore. Happy gardening!
Thank yal for everything you do to inform and make easy what to most seems like unattainable processes. I make sure to tell anyone about Plant Delights whether they are listening or not.
What season do you collect the spores? Do you just pick the leaves and let the spores fall off?
