the rest of the mirotic album is definitely along this same vibe !! this is probably the most catchy addicting song on the album which makes sense since it’s the title track but the rest of the album is pretty cohesive with it
You liked Junsu's voice in Mirotic! You should check out his latest collab performance with Hyolyn that just came out this week. Junsu and Jaejoong are slowly getting back on TV after a decade of broadcast ban. Thats why we are excited to finally see him on a show and this week's performance with Hyolyn was IT! I followed your SHINee album reactions and based on that I have a feeling you might like early TVXQ (aka DBSK). Give Mirotic album a try! But also FYI, they are equally big (maybe even more) in Japan so I would recommend checking out Tohoshinki too. 3/4 of my TVXQ playlist is filled with their Japanese songs lol.
Here is some background to help you understand the dynamics of TVXQ better. TVXQ (English and Chinese)/DBSK (Korean)/ Tohoshinki (Japanese), which each are the abbreviations/acronyms of the words in each language that translates to mean "Rising Gods of the East," debuted in 2003 as a 5 member group. But, in 2010 three of their members left SM Entertainment and the group and formed a new group called JYJ -- the initials of the members: Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong. (Up until recently, JYJ was still a group and they still produce music, but because they left SM Entertainment -- one of the most powerful and influential companies in the industry -- on less than ideal terms, it has made it more difficult for them to promote themselves and their music. So the members of JYJ are more known as actors and producers than they are as singers now.) However, Max/Changmin and U-Know/Yunho continued as TVXQ as a duo. The day after Christmas was TVXQ/DBSK/Tohoshinki's 18th anniversary, and even now as a duo they are so talented that they have the vocal range to cover all the parts of a song between the two of them, including rap. The choreographer for "Catch Me" is Tony Testa, who has worked with a lot of SM's artists. Changmin and U-Know have said that Tony told them he got the idea for this choreography because the inflight movie that was shown on the flight from the U.S. to Korea was one of the Avengers movies and he was inspired by the Hulk. So that is why they were supposed to be animatronic robots with giant arms. In the MV when their arms light up that is done in post production, but you should check out some of their live performances of the song, because in some of their live performances -- such as in SM's end of the year SMCU Express SMTown concert on New Year's eve this year -- they have LED arm bands, so they really do light up. With all the water in this MV, the choreography was super difficult. If you were to watch the behind the scenes of them filming the MV, you would see how everyone kept slipping and falling down and they kept having to redo those scenes, th-cam.com/video/8INOtewTfaY/w-d-xo.html, (Sorry couldn't find one with subs.) You should also check out the dance practice, th-cam.com/video/JzSgMwrSfOk/w-d-xo.html. "Mirotic is a made up word that really has no meaning, but it is derived from a play on the word mirror + otic -- the title was originally supposed to be something like mirror but they thought the word sounded better if you added otic to the end of it, (it made it sound cooler, or something.) Think of it as the words mirror and exotic combined -- that's just how you pronounce the title, not the meaning of the word. "Mirotic," which came out in 2008 when they were still a 5 member group, is a classic in the Kpop world and every new rookie group -- both boy groups and girl groups -- learn this song and choreography and almost every rookie has performed it on music programs, award shows, at showcases, etc. at least once in their career. This song, like SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong," Girls Generation's "Gee" and Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry," etc. is pretty much compulsory for everyone in the entertainment industry to know and learn the song and dance to, no matter how young or old they are. In the MV for "Mirotic" the woman is supposed to be a siren, like from Greek mythology, and she is supposed to be tempting and trapping or luring the TVXQ members to her. Like they say in the song "... I got you under my skin ..." But in the end you see how the members have broke free from her control. (Often in Greek mythology the siren, through her intoxicating love powers, lures guys to their deaths.) Also, you should know, that the "red ocean" they are referring to in the song has a double meaning -- TVXQ's fandom is Cassiopeia and their fan color is red, so when you attend a TVXQ concert you will see an ocean of red. Welcome to the Cassiopeia fandom. If you like TVXQ then you are a Cassi. "Something" was recorded as part of TVXQ's 10th anniversary celebration, so to commemorate their 10th anniversary, if you notice, there is a Roman numeral X on the floor in the middle of the ballroom. Fun fact: as you may know, it wasn't real common to see females in Kpop boy group MVs until more recently, and that's one reason why Changmin used to say that filming for the "Something" MV was his favorite. Because after 10 years, this was the first time that they had ever used females in one of their MVs. Changmin was 25 years old at the time and U-Know was 27. And as you saw in the MV, you can see why he had such a good time. LOL ;) You should really see a live comeback stage for "Something." The choreo they perform live with this song has them using that double ended mic that is attached in the middle by a rope and they each hold an end of the rope, and they have to dance without getting tangled in the rope. Its super impressive and shows exactly why they are considered one of the best performing duos in the industry. Yes, TVXQ truly are all-time legends in the music industry. As an SM Entertainment group, it is no surprise that TVXQ are outstanding vocalists. Being some of the best dancers and vocalists in the industry is what we have come to expect from all of SM's artists and groups. That's just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. Changmin (the youngest member) was 15 and U-Know was 17 years old when they debuted, so even though they are one of the senior Kpop groups, Changmin is only 33 and U-know just turned 36. TVXQ is SM's most senior group, but U-Know and Changmin are still younger than, or the same age as, many of the members of the legendary groups who came after them within their generation. They are best friends with Super Junior and they pretty much all grew up together. Changmin is known for his powerful high notes (even more powerful than Onew or Jonghyun from SHINee or Chen and Baekhyun from EXO), he literally has one of the widest note ranges of almost any Kpop artist. In a high note battle he always wins. He is best friends with Kyuhyun from Super Junior and Minho from SHINee. Xiumin from EXO is such a big fanboy of his that he says TVXQ is the reason why he wanted to audition for SM. (Fun fact: Changmin got married in 2020.) U-Know is known for his dancing and his passion for dancing and singing. It might be hard to believe, but he is also the rapper of the group. (U-Know truly loves what he does and doesn't hide it. He will tell you he is proud of his accomplishments and he is proud of his work. His passion is kind of a running joke within the industry. Its one of the things he is most known for.) The funny thing is personality-wise, Changmin and U-Know are complete opposites in almost every way. Changmin is quiet, calm and level headed and prefers to spend time alone; and U-Know is loud, high energy, intense and prefers to spend time with a group of people. Tohoshinki (TVXQ) are one of the most famous singers in Japan as well, even among Japanese artists. And like BoA and SHINee, they are so popular in Japan that they are considered part of the mainstream music scene. TVXQ has one of the biggest worldwide fan bases and they sell out some of the largest concert venues in the world. They are SM Entertainment's top selling group in gross sale, easily selling out concert tours around the world.
Their group name translates to Rising Gods of the East so you're kind right about the supernatural powers, in the SM universe they are (supposed to be) gods. Almost all the title songs they have released after Something are jazz or blues inspired. Their old songs are solid but there's a lot of ballads as title songs just so you know. Their first comeback as a duo is Keep Your Head Down (2011). Also SM releases songs with a similar style for all their groups usually over a 2-3 years period (maybe 1-2 now) just with this groups style infused in it so makes sense it reminds you of the songs of other groups around the same time.
If you like Dinner and Mirotic, you should check out the Mirotic album. There were many song with the same vibe, harmony, softly and addictive, such as You're my melody, Flower Lady, Paradise, Crazy in Love, Picture of you. If it suit your taste, please also check TVXQ's older album, their Japanese album, and the B-side track as well, actually some B-side was my favourite than the title song, it really bleesed your ear LOL For me, I personally do love their harmonisation in OT5 more than Duo, but I love the Duo style these days. it was so varied.
Yunho is my first and ultimate bias 😆 It's hard to choose my fav song because I like most of their song but I would like to recommend you Spellbound, the chance of love, truth, and love line. For nostalgatic ballad you can check out hug, my little princess, love in the ice, and bolero (it's my fav Japanese song)
Yes, you should definately react to their early stuff. Changmin is the true magnae in tvxq but Junsu was the fake magnae 😁
the rest of the mirotic album is definitely along this same vibe !! this is probably the most catchy addicting song on the album which makes sense since it’s the title track but the rest of the album is pretty cohesive with it
