the toriel thing is likely to keep anyone from knowing that there may be a legitimate heir to the throne, undyne dying is probably due to mettaton knowing that undyne could be seen as a leader since, really when you don't have a leader you just turn to the highest ranking person in your government. people who don't worship mettaton dying is likely due to the fact that the constant annoyance that is mettaton's ego could inspire a revolt and they would be the first ones to cause that revolt which would cause more revolts until dead mettaton.

I've seen people villainize Mettaton like crazy because of this. That's pretty sad since i think he means well, he just has no idea what he's doing. He's an Entertainer not a leader, he has no idea how to run a nation. Anyone that would have been a good leader is dead. Alphys, the only person he propably would have listened to, has very likely killed herself. He's alone, to stubborn to ask for help and way in over his head. There is one actually, one where only asgore (and another minor monster) dies and you befriend papyrus, undyne and alphys. Toriel rules the underground and everyone's just kinda sad that rhe king is gone but theyre doing fine, and trying to find a way to break the barrier, helping alphys in her lab.

This was the ending I got on my first playthrough. I couldn't figure out how to get past Toriel without killing her and resolved to find out for a future run. And I initially wasn't inclined to show mercy to Undyne. But this ending freaked me right the hell out, and made me that much more inclined to do things right next time.

This one was my first one too. I killed Toriel by accident and as how Undyne blamed me for my sins I thought I had to kill her at that point. Really broke my heart seeing Papyrus so sad... at least I didn't fully know how deeply they cared about each other, I thought Undyne didn't give a fuck about him

The funny thing is thats this was my first neutral ending that I played, because I accidently killed Toriel and didn't know how to spare Undyne. I don't really know if I'm satisfied with this ending, but it was both funny and disturbing at the same time.

Everyone in the comments is like "Everyone who doesn't worship Mettaton disappears, Mettaton killed them all!" but is that really Mettaton's personality?
Sure he's tried to kill us. But that was because he wanted fame and fortune in the human world. It's not Mettaton's style to kill people just because they don't like him. Also note: He's in mourning, Alphys died in this ending. He said that he looked everywhere (Even possibly True Lab) thats why he built a statue of her. Sure he may not seem like he's mourning but also remember: He's an actor. He's trying to make the underground happy because he's knows people love him. Even when he's dying inside. Sure Mettaton may be Flamboyent and Crazy but he has emotions. He's more dead inside that Toriel and Undyne. (Note: Yes I did just defend Mettaton. He's the best character. The worst neutral ending is when you kill him so.)
