Olaya is a municipality of Colombia, located in the western subregion of the department of Antioquia. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Liborina, to the east by the municipalities of Belmira and Sopetrán, to the south by the municipality of Sopetrán and to the west by the municipality of Santa Fe de Antioquia. Its municipal seat is 100 km from Medellín. It has an area of 90 km², which makes it the smallest municipality in the subregion, below Giraldo and Armenia, with 96 km² and 111 km², respectively. Olaya was called Cantón de Sopetrán in 1851, Sacaojal in 1855, and later Sucre. It was a town that competed with a neighboring town for the honor of being the municipal seat of the entire territory. For many years there were changes in which, due to various requests from the inhabitants and government determinations, the two neighboring towns took turns with the names and the category of municipality until, finally, by Ordinance No. 41 of May 14, 1936, Olaya returned to its status of municipal seat.
Despite its proximity to Medellín, Olaya has not developed tourism, as its municipal seat is one of the smallest in Antioquia, and has two hotels such as Viña Sicilia and hostería florida tropical, only a couple of residences.
