Terrible comparison....I personally have had both in my bag. The Mizuno is there now and will stay, reason being is both were tested with a graphite shaft. Distance would still go to the Ping by a couple of yards, but who cares when my dispersion is so right with the Mizuno, and my cost was less, you didn't discuss that point? Distance to my next club down to combine in to my iron set was much better also. The Mizuno doesn't balloon up into the air on the, into wind shots. And I got away from all Pings because of the Noise they make! Love the feel and performance of Mizuno clubs, never the longest, but the most fun. Do the review again with a comparable shaft, please. And his comment about dispersion front to back is the player and his contact never the club, c'mon boys.
Ok…I’m going to be unpopular but I’m gonna put it out there. DHGs strength is it great mix of people and it’s genuine chemistry among all the crew. If I want to watch an unbiased club review because I am just curious or seriously looking for a new club…I may watch your stuff but it forms a very insignificant part of my decision process, especially when compared to other channels out there that focus almost entirely on very in depth club reviews and comparisons. I get that during the winter it’s tough to get out and film and you need to find alternative material to fill your ‘subscriber expectations’…but doing ‘weak’ half arsed club comparisons is just a waste of your time to produce and my time to watch. I watched bits and bobs of this vid…fast forwarding through it…then turned off. I watch 99% of your videos from start to finish and love every second typically, waiting with baited breath at 6pm Be brave…be different…why would I watch your club comparison when someone else does it way better? Take your group of incredible connections and do something that nobody else is doing…sit down interviews over a beer, get them in the studio…challenges on the foresight indoor software, left handed golf, speed challenges etc etc. if your going to do a genuine club comparison then get some of Churlstons 15-20 handicappers in and do it I love DHG…it’s my number 1 channel for golf, but please…don’t just start churning out ‘stuff’ for the sake of filling content. Please be different and think a little outside the box…there are dozens of things you could do through the winter months that would be unique and fascinating to watch…or you could just do club/ball/bag/trolley reviews.

I bag the Mizuno 26 and 23 degree JPX Fli-Hi-hi hybrids with the Modus3 105 steel shafts, stiff flex. They are designed to be a direct iron replacement, which is a brilliant approach in my opinion. So, instead of longer graphite shafts my hybrids have the exact same steel shaft as my irons, with the appropriate lengths for gapping. I'm surprised more companies don't try this approach. And the cost is way lower, roughly $135 for a Mizzy JPX 923 hybrid (maybe cost should've been a category?). Graphite shafted hybrids would always want to go left on me, the Fli-hi hybrids with the steel shaft just allows me to have a more forgiving version of a long iron; a great thing for a mid-handicapper.
Bit of a half hearted test I feel. 5 shots with each is not enough to show any real difference, would have been better if you did more shots off camera. Lee came in with a bias towards the Ping and was never gonna pick the Mizuno no matter what the data showed. Pings only true win was the the adjustability which I think all hybrids and fairway woods should have but other than that I didn't see much difference.
Adjustability is double edge sword. Rather than learning to hit a club like you do on your irons, if you hit a few bad shots with and adjustable club you will go in and change the settings. Then a couple of rounds later, the same thing happens and you adjust the settings again. It becomes a never ending process.
I noticed that there was no mention of the JPX's steel hosel construction being adjustable or bendable. This is a massive benefit, especially for lie angle adjustments. So I agree PING has an advantage with easier adjustability, but the JPX is also adjustable with the right equipment or pro shop. I also think the steel shaft option is great for those who want the feel of steel. As always, a proper fitting with a professional is the best course of action. Great video review Dan and Lee!
Could only really see this as a worthy test if it was two clubs that neither of you use. Although the Ping is obviously a great club (I have two of these hybrids myself), the Mizuno didn't stand a chance with one of the testers.
Had a Mizuno fitting and did select fli hi with matching steel shaft as a direct iron replacement. It was not about max distance but good gapping with my irons. I have a graphite shafted hybrid as well for longer shots. Perhaps hybrids have different roles in the bag. Not everyone has swing speed for the long irons, particularly with strong lofts.
NO! The Mizuno CLK is/was the best hybrid ever. The HI-FLI is an iron replacement, it is not a pure hybrid, the test should have been with the Ping and the Mizuno STMAX
The mizuno hi-fli has a steel shaft because it's designed to fit into your mizuno irons (and the shafts in irons aren't generally graphite) you can if you want to buy an st-x hybrid which is an actual hybrid. So for me this isn't comparing apples against apples it's more like onions against leeks....they are both an onion type flavour but completely different. You would use the hybrid to blend in with your woods and the fli-hi to blend in as a direct replacement in your irons. I own both and they are very different. Maybe you should try comparing the hybrids as bias towards a hybrid as opposed to an iron replacement skewed the scoring. I will back the mizuno hybrid to beat it
Thanks for the details here. I got fitted and absolutely loved the mizuno hot irons and will be ordering the 1” extended shaft (I’m 6’6 with 36” knuckle to floor). Wondering if I order a hi-fli 4 hybrid as well, would you also use the same exact 1” extended steel shaft as used on my irons, since it’s designed to be an iron replacement? Or don’t need the extension on a hybrid? Also, as a newer 20+ handicap, would you recommend going 5-pw with a 4 hybrid or just go 6-pw with a 5 hybrid?
You're comparing the wrong Mizuno hybrid to the Ping. The jpx is a direct long iron replacement. Equivalent technology means you need the CLK. This video is unfair, especially with Lee's bias towards Ping.
I’d happily just watch these videos in order to study the different swings. Still say that Dan’s almost languid-like and stress free swing looks the best.
I did a fitting for a hybrid this year and tried Taylormade, Callaway and Ping. The Ping was way more consistent for me and I went with it and one of the factors in my decision was that it was adjustable
As I’m sure you’re aware that although the fli hi comes under the heading of a hybrid it’s actually a long iron replacement club and not a hybrid, hence the steel shaft. By the way you can actually get it a graphite.
Lee you're incorrect, personally the best and most underrated hybrid in the world is the Cobra Radspeed - proven by me comparing it them both and the Sim
Of all my years watching these kinds of club tests, I can honestly say I have NEVER seen such a ball speed differential (124 JPX vs 134 Ping) given the same loft - and yet seen another player hit them at the EXACT SAME ball speed - and then to see an equally different spin differential of 800rpms (basically 1 club) when the other tester again experienced no difference - basically, Dan using the shaft's mass to deliver the force and Lee fighting it.
For me the jpx is better. It feels amazing, the ball flight is gorgeous, and it sounds incredible. I hit the 5 hybrid 215 yards total distance and I am 13 years old. These are solid clubs
i have the 4 and 5 hifli as replacement for my 4 and 5 HM 921 irions but have the ping 425 3 hybrid . all 3 are amazing from distance into the green. both are worth trying out
Hard to argue that the G425 is not the best hybrid on the market (I have one). However, the nice thing about the Fli-Hi is they can be ordered (4-7) as part of a combo set with the JPX irons with the same shaft at no extra cost. So instead of a stand alone hybrid like the Ping it's really designed to gap with your irons. This can be quite a cost savings.
Dan owned the fli hi when it first came out, wish I still had it. So long easy to hit. Also same length as 4 iron. Tried ping like hitting tin can with a broom handle. Dispersion with the ping and Lee was dreadful. Better in play surely. Enjoyed video 👍
interesting that Lee snap hooked almost every shot with his beloved Ping, then striped one with the Mizuno....I can't hit hybrids either, they are snap hook machines, but if I had to choose I'd take the Mizuno purely based on the profile which looks close to a fairway wood
Hybrids in my opinion are an acquired taste. For me I like heavier heads with near on a 60g shaft this being for a 19 degree. For the 4 iron replacement in my case a 22 degree, I prefer a fixed head because of the duller almost iron sound acoustics. We aren't all the same and tests like yours cement that fact. Good comparison I reckon, but maybe Ping vs Titliest as both are new, both adjustable and both graphite shafts.
Good showdown. I'm with Lee, the ping wins. I've never had a mizuno hybrid but there's just something about them that I don't like, they just don't appeal to me.
I understand the idea but not the execution of the video. You really need to test each hybrid decently fitted to each of you or at least in the same shaft/spec. The results could have been exactly the opposite if you swapped the shafts in them. I'm still watching and enjoying the channel just giving an opinion.
Pointless really Dan likes flatter flight ...likes feel of his club....Lee likes his club.....sats can be made to show what you like....or don't like....all this just goes to show...if it fits your eye and your gapping you will play what you like.....I think most of us have had the experience of buying a club because it performs the best...only to hate it and sell it on because it doesn't look right...the only difference that I can see that is worth mentioning is that one is adjustable and one isn't...
I like this idea of comparing clubs but it feels a bit of biased depending on what club you bring in. Why not you each bring a club in and state your case but say Bernie/Jordan do the testing? Surely that would be the most impartial and helpful to your viewers?
I personally dont like the ping It is to much of a Wood instead of a iron replacement. I play the callaway apex 19 hybrid. Its a 2 hybrid of 18 degree. Love it. Pops better then my old 2 iron and is more forgiving but it is still a iron replacement. The ping g425 hybrid is so much of a Wood i would rather have a 7 wood instead of a 4 hybrid. So between these 2 i would rather have the mizuno, but with a graphite shaft. Only like steel in my true iron clubs.
I think the format has legs… but… you need two fairly equal clubs (not a steel shafted weirdo), and I think you need a third party putting them in your hands… i.e. your opinions are neutralised and it’s not all about the club you brought…
If you are to do comparison videos should be done by single person (Dan) with honest unbiased feedback. Do like the odd club comparisons but not as a main stay of the channel.

TM Stealth 2 Plus also have dull muted sound. But it produced very penetrating ball flight.

Sonartec MD 21 degree hybrid best hybrid I’ve used. Grafalloy Blue. Old school is a good school.

Love all the G425 woods , Lee you swing especially the down swing is looking great and more controlled and improved IMO just thought I’d mention it.

I would suggest scoring out of 6, the 6th point going to cost, or value for money???
With the higher peak height (assuming steeper landing angle) and greater spin, the G425 is more likely to stay on the green with long approach shots.

Try the Gen 4 pxg, best hybrid ive ever hit..had a Mizuno hybrid and the pxg is far better...
