People dressed nice in those days and constructed beautiful buildings unlike the disposable blue jean culture of today and the music was smooth and soothing. People even held conversations with neighbors on their front porches and backyards over a beer. I remember those days as a kid and am blessed that I was able to experience them. Thank you sir for the upload.
I'm in Sacramento so I been to Reno quite a bit and it's fascinating to see cal neva. Believe it is the only casino still there from this video. Awesome stuff.
Nice shots of Southern Pacific, cab-forward, 4-8-8-2, steam locomotives. This film may have been made in 1949 or '50 judging from the cars seen in it. Thanks for sharing!
Love this video. Nice to see something different from Nevada's past, other than another Las Vegas video. The trip on I-80 from Reno to Sacramento is just as beautiful as it was on this train ride.
I have seen a 1948 vintage Line Materials Ovalites with fins as I seen it on the videos about Reno Nevada during the 1950s and 1960s, and they used to accepted 400 watt Mercury Vapor Lamps. I also went to Reno Historical Museum in Reno Nevada numerous time to see the old photos of Reno Nevada of each decade, such as 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950, 1960, 1970s, and even 1980s, when I used to live in Carson City Nevada between 1988 and 1992. Today, Reno, Sparks, and Carson City Nevada now have a energy efficient LED street lights for at least 10 years now.
Today,I learned something and it is the way the city identified itself “ The biggest little City in the world” Beside my complements for the excellent footages,I have to admit how right my father was when he said “ Never we are too old to learn something new” And believe me,I’m old😆
I lived in Reno from 1977 to 1984. The Cal Neva was there back then, my husband work at Harold’s Club. Binnon’s Horseshoe club and the Mapes hotel was my first job. I was 17 yrs. old and worked as a maid for $20 a day. 😝
Good editing, green paint on the mountain's lower half, that stuff didn't happen till, the 1970's, go to cars, to many sites have trains with history. ❤
Was born in Detroit the same year and my father made similar wages at GM. Our mothers could stay home, and we could afford a small but cozy house and a decent auto and put food on the table in those days. Not anymore.
The 50s and 60s were some of the best times to live we had everything but the internet, But life was straightforward and simple. You could drink the water from your house gas was 20 cents a gallon and lots of good jobs to support a family. I am still trying to figure out if the internet would have screwed that up. or not!
If you were a straight, white Christian male in good physical & mental health who didn’t seriously question the status quo, sure. But for most people, it was a bit more complicated…
I heard an urban legend that there was an old guy with a Buick and if you got in his way he would push your car down the main drag of town at break neck speed. I also had a client that was offered the Mapes hotel back in the mid eighties but alas it sat derelict and now Its demolished
Reno was were folks went to get Divorced..for several decades...from all over the U.S...requirements were very simple ..only 6 months of residency...and much simpler reasons..like drunkenness..adultery
Very important work .....i predict you will one day be in the Smithsonian thanks Nass .....as the technology advances so will you and your time machine and i look forward to it!
Could you send me to a more dangerous neighborhood? I'm dreading walking back to the car someone shouldn't crack me over the head and steal my bag, I'll be lying there on the street in this neighborhood and people will spit on me and empty my pockets. I'll lie in the gutter like a bum, like a dog, like a mutt, like an animal! God forbid someone should help me or call an ambulance. No, that's too much trouble to pick up a phone and press a few buttons.

The manner in which everyday people went about their business with such grace and style back then always amazes me.
I'm nostalgic for a time I never lived through...
I think my parents were lucky to live back then. I wish I could have lived back then, instead of now.

Bonita ciudad y esos anuncios de luz de neon de aquellos, que buenos tiempos😎
There was a 38 Chevy about to be crushed in a wrecking yard in one of your older vids, boy you would rescue that it a heartbeat now!!!
Well done! Looks great - our filmmaker was definitely a train enthusiast!
Boy how times have changed!
Love Reno. Much less intense than Vegas and Tahoe and the Sierra a short drive
NEWEST CARS SEEN THIS FILM, 1949 FORD, STUDEBAKER, CHEVY, HUDSON !

Born in Reno in 1957. My father was a Fireman there. Worked 72 hours per week and made 420 per month and that was shit wages even back then.

5:12 "Divorces granted, time to head home!"

First old footage ive seen where its not sped up and the people dont look like they run everywhere like Charlie chaplin
2:02 Man disappears as he enters building.
This, I think, would have been 1949-50 and Southern Pacific #28, the San Francisco Overland Limited.
In the 50’s and in uniform the casinos would give you a 5 or 10 dollar chip.
