Robbie is an amazing voice actor, the difference between Prince Akechi and Blask Mask Akechi are clear as day. Even though the pitch and tone are exactly the same, it makes you question if they're the same voice at all. That's quality.
Robbie Daymund played a straight-up hero as Lloyd Bannings in the Trails series, and then a psycho pretending to be a straight-up hero in Persona 5, and then a psycho with principles in Persona 5 Royal. That guy has range!
Fun fact: Look closely and Prince Akechi uses his right hand to summon his persona. Black Mask Akechi uses his left hand as that is his dominant hand. Just like in the pool game confidant interaction, Akechi uses his less preferred hand and hides his true skills or "powers" in this case.
By far my personal favorite of the Third-Tier Personas. Plus, Robby Daymond’s delivery of *Hereward* and *Kill them, Hereward* is downright terrifying.
I appreciate how Atlus made Akechi both lovable to hate, and more of an anti-hero in both Vanilla Persona 5 and Royal! Robbie's great as Akechi and his other roles in anime, & video games as well!
@@jj_grabes yes,i have used some mods in the ps3 version,if you "awake" akechi's persona he will use loki, and i just remember he saying "Loki" and "Arise, Loki"
I feel like you can hear a restraint almost in prince Akechi's lines, like he's holding himself back from sounding as wild as he does as the black mask, or maybe I'm just imagining things again, either way I donno his VA's name but I think he did a good job :)
He was making really good points but in the end they were never really addressed. The Phantom Thieves WERE brainwashing and manipulating people, it's just that everyone one of them turned to be the worst scum so it's very easy to justify, specially once it all connects.
I think something many people do not understand of Akechi, is that both Robin Hood and Loki are his "true" selves. The Persona is ALWAYS the true self, but the nuance here is that one can have many personalities while being completely honest in wearing them. The Ace Detective Akechi, hero of justice and rightfulness, IS Akechi. As a child, he used those ideas of the "hero of justice" as an escape from the conditions he lived in. He truly aspires to be that, or at least to be perceived as such, but he knows he's too far away from that path to ever truly be so. And yet, he acts, talks, and lives like the Ace Detective he's supposed to be. Throughout most of his daily life, he chooses to ignore all the crimes he has committed, to pretend they never happened, so to truly live the life of the Hero of Justice he secretly wants to be. Loki Akechi is the most adult Akechi here. Profoundly selfish and cinical, he unknowns the values he'd otherwise dream of, and endulges in his crimes. Since before obtaining the power of Persona, he had already discarded the ideal of Justice for a naive construct; as a child forced to "grow up" too fast, Akechi had no other way but to embrace the injustice of the world as his own. If there's no other way, then its better to enjoy it. And yet, when he finally succeeded on his first deals with Shido and saw himself rise to fame and glory and wealth, there he saw the chance to relive that childish fantasy of the hero of justice. He could have been anything, but he chose to be that. Its a lie, but one that he himself likes to believe. A comforting story that no one (except some distasteful witnesses) knows to be false. After completing his revenge on Shido, that lie would be Akechi's future. There wouldn't be any use for Loki then, but Robin Hood, te public wonderful persona, would perdure. A beautiful identity no one, not even him, would care to disproof.
I like to think that these are both facets of his true self, just each pushed to the extreme on either end (bipolar much), while his REAL true self is right in the middle, hence his tier 3 persona.
Both are akechi, he says in 3rd semester he's his true self, and while it's true that self it allot closer to his true self than his detective Prince act he still isn't his 'true self' he's just allot more vulnerable in 3rd semester, he's still defensive and hides his feeling tho. I rlly wish we get to see him as his true self in a equel some day cause he's an amazing character and deserves to one day be who he rlly is without being afrade to show it!! 😭😭

It's weird how I really hated Akechi from the start until he reveals his black mask. Since 3rd semester that I got him as a party member idk why I started to like him 🥺 Oh boy, maybe I felt like that cuz I could sense something fake within him in his false persona form/detective Akechi form and it makes me annoying. His true self may be brutal but since it's his real heart, I gradually grow to like him so much. Ya know it's because nobody loves anything that made to be perfect but nothing less than a mask. Your true nature may have flaws and other unique features that few people could take a liking but if somebody accept that side of you, they're genuinely like you.
The fact that the game was able to pull a complete 360 with my opinion on Akechi is impressive. I couldn't stand his self-righteous attitude that he carries for 3/4 of the game.
