Not only I knew about rudram devi but of Rani durgavati, rani nayi devi who defeated ghori and many more and I really don't understand why our southern brothers think we don't see them as equals . Be in kannad ,mallayali , Tamil or telgu. Although it is sad that Christianity and islam has been eroding keralites and tamils have forgotten that we are the same people due to periyarist and theirs cynical political dividing propaganda

She sounds like an amazing person, with a lot of parallels with the great Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut. This is a great story and superby made, but would like to point out a small inaccuracy with the graphic. The graphic shows parts of Sri Lanka as continuously under Pandya rule in 12th and 13th centuries, which was not the case. The Pandyas were allies in most cases, and the greatest threats were from the Kalingas and Cholas. Also, what those invaders attacked, and in some cases held for some years, were the capital cities and the areas surrounding Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, nowhere near the areas marked in the graphic. This also wasn’t a continuous rule either.

Thank you so much for bringing attention to South Indian history. It’s the most interesting part of our collective desi heritage. For some reason there has been a campaign to ignore it. Even though I’m ethically Kashmiri, learning about the south still makes me proud.
Happy to provide! Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
Wow, I never heard about this Queen before.
This is really a great information.
I shared around and people was stunned.
Brave heart Queen 👸
Thank you very much for uploading great videos.
Really enjoyed it.
Awesome haha, I like your nickname for her: “the Braveheart Queen.” Thanks!
@Odd Compass 😆👌
What a great channel!!! This aspect of Indian history is hardly ever talked about . It's always British India this and Mughals that . Excellent research and excellent presentation! 👌👌👌👌👌
There is a queen in tamil nadu called "Velu Nachiyar"she ruled the siva gangai district in tamil nadu, she also fought with the Britishers to save her kingdom. Please make a video of her. 🙏💜
Thanks for the tip!
She was the only Queen in India who won the battle against British..

Hey! I'm speechless. I'm a Telugu from Telangana. I'm speechless at the fact that you being an American made video about our great warrior queen. Frankly outside the Telugu states of Telangana and A.P, no one knows about her. It means a lot that you have given her such huge credit. Forget about knowing her, most North Indians can't even distinguish between different South Indian languages.
I am from the north . This is utter stereotyping. Not only I knew about rudram devi but of Rani durgavati, rani nayi devi who defeated ghori and many more and I really don't understand why our southern brothers think we don't see them as equals . Bharatiya from the south were staunch followers to santan dharma. We adore southern manifestations of the dharma with it's own culture that is the beauty of sanatan parampara . Be in kannad ,mallayali , Tamil or telgu. Although it is sad that Christianity and islam has been eroding keralites and tamils have forgotten that we are the same people due to periyarist and theirs cynical political dividing propaganda

Rudramma devi is the reason I’m alive today. As the video suggests, she built a great number of lakes in Deccan plateau (Telangana) region which have been a boon to my people. There is an artificial lake near my village called “Rudramma Cherukuri” which I’m amazed to know has provided life for around 800 years. I’m in awe of the affect she had on my present life which I didn’t even realise.
Thanks for sharing this piece of history with me, it has brought great value!
Still don't see how she's the reason you're alive.

Finally, someone did'nt generalize all of us as Hindus.
Indeed, the Hinduism of the medieval south was quite unique. 👍

Well 80% are Hindus.
@@muraligopal212 Modern hinduism include Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism and Brahmanism. They are not about worshiping different gods but each of them have different core principles (other than dharma which is universal). In this video, they explained about Veerashaivism and its reform against caste. Outsiders always say that hindus follow caste system but here we see that hindus also opposed caste system. That's why I said that "80% hindus" cannot be generalized in a single category.

Hey Odd Compass. Can you do a video on Hemu? For the the kind of impact this man could have had on Indian History, he is seriously overlooked.
His accomplishments occurred during a very short period of time, but Hemu is a very interesting fellow, so I'll definitely consider it as part of a mini-episode (I'm going to be following a new format soon: one "big" episode and one "mini" episode, which should help me get more videos out on different topics!).
The Kakatiya Dynasty was established by the Ratta clan of Warriors who were responsible for both Rashtrakuta & kakatiya dynasty , they later in AD 10th Century branched off into northern Rathod Rajputs and southern Reddy rulers of Deccan (Karnataka & Andhra) , there were numerous Reddy clan families ruling small principalities post Rashtrakuta Dynasty and they were Jains too ; One Malli Reddy was a Jain monk he built 21 Shiva temples in Telangana to propagate equality of religions .
Indeed, it’s believed that the Kakatiyas were Reddies who changed their title/surnames to Deva/Devi upon becoming kings

Nice bro. Please make a video about Indian Inventions that changed the ancient world. And about maharana pratap. And nice motion graphics.
It was in around 1289 CE that Marco Polo visited the Kakatiya kingdom. Even he seems to have found it hard to believe that a woman had inherited her father’s throne.
When you consider the rivalries in your video, "The Rise and Fall of the Vijayanagar Empire," it's no wonder why you see so few women leaders historically.

Interesting, thanks for the detailed correction!
