using a float and sea cabbage for bait .
very fun fish to catch over the winter months and great eating fish too

Thought it might of been an old maid or butter fish! They take weed as well. Got to watch the black spines don't spike ya they have a sting the same as a catfish. You feel like you want to chop your hand or arm off. The best way to overcome the pain is to put hot water as hot as you can stand.

Wilson blackfish rod 10.6ft 2 pecie mate 👍
That's what I use now in last few vids but this vid was a wilson live fibre medium 10.6ft witch is a bit heavy so I got the blackfish model 👍

Making it look easy :)... was wondering can you collect the sea cabbage the day or days before you use it? for exampole collecting cunji and salting it etc. can you or do you collect your sea cabbage the day or days prior to using it to fish... cheers
Thanks mate yeah best to collect cabbage the day you use it or day before cause it starts to stink after a few days if left in water but squeeze the water out of it and wrap in dry news papper and keeps for a few days in the fridge 👍

I have heard that regular fishers on Nelson Bay Breakwall have their names painted on "their" fishing perches? I noticed that the tide was close to high & there may have been one more person fishing at that time. A weekday? My ex-father-in-law (now deceased) made a bream rod for me 40 years ago. I've had it restored & will return to the break wall & try to remember everything he taught me. Catching bream on pudding bait. Nice to see the break wall is still a productive fishing spot. Hope you've patched your float. A great video, as always.
Blackfishermen are a cagey and secretive lot at the best of times. I know a few in Sydney that swear that this rock is "theirs". ;)

Yeah it was a week day and high tide and the breakwall still does fish good definitely worth fishing this time of yesr for bream and luderick and yeah mate i patched the float up its back in action

Hi best place to find it is in rock pools close to the edge of the water grows every where but iam thinking of doing a bait collection video so i will show it in that when i do it cheers 👍

Yeah alot of people fish sydney harbour but they still get alot of good fish there but plenty of fish off nelson bay breakwall at the moment good fishing for bream and luderick at the moment 👍

Don’t know what I’m doing wrong how much bait do you use ? I tried really deep and fairly shallow all the old fellas where catching them around me tried both green weed and cabbage
Hi mate i just use a little bit of bait
And fish about 10ft deep
Maybe your float wasn't weighted right if it's not they fill the weight of it when they grab the bait and let go need a light leader to mate
6 pound they won't bit heavy leader some times they can be tricky to catch but need the right setup 👍

Great beast session mate. I landed only one chunky cod and couple of shity bottom fishes today, ocean was too patchy and windy. Where you get such a nice simple landing net with long handle? Cheers🎣

I took the pool net off
Then i stuck a fishing net in it
But you can buy long handle fishing nets these days that are telescopic or get a thin light aluminum pole or tubing and make one cheers 👍

Hey mate they hang around breakwalls this time of year to get ready to spawn and there is plenty of food washing past and to eat off the rocks and plenty of hole in the rocks for them to hide in mate cheers 👍
