Primitive Technique to Make Adobe Bricks
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 ต.ค. 2024
- Adobe is one of the most ancient building materials used in history. Primitive cultures made these earthen bricks thousands of years ago and many cultures still use adobe in construction. Adobe basically means mud brick in Spanish and was widely used in the southwest United States as well as many other parts of the world. My hut is constructed entirely of adobe bricks that I made from the surrounding earth. The hut is nearly three years old and has endured three rainy seasons, two of which more rain fell than usual. I have witnessed first hand the resilience of adobe as a construction material for small dwellings.
In this video I show you exactly how I make my adobe bricks. No special tools are required. Everything can be made from natural materials easily acquired in nature. This video is narrated so that I can describe the details to you so turn on sound or enable captions in your preferred language.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Who films you?
I do. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share exactly where I go.
Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently do collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).

My parents built a small adobe house in Paradox Colorado in 1977. I had to help by stomping the mud. At 9 years old, I felt I had better things to do with my time. Now that I look back, what a cool experience.
I would really like to do it again someday.
Did you guys seal the bricks?
@@JaguarPriest Yes, dad did.
For some reason, I did not expect his voice to sound like that.
Bit deeper, ej?
He isnt named "Chad" for nothing you know
It shouldn't be, he does speak in his older videos 😂
Same lol I expected a deep Australian accent
Same! Ahaha 😂
I remember when me and chad used to talk. And he’s is an amazing person in nature and in the Real world
Cool
So nature isn’t the Real world??
I hope you guys talk again
@@yarukaribana2652 The Real World is like NYC, as nature is the Amazon. It's like the difference between daily life and camping.
So, the dry grass is acting like rebar in concrete. This is an interesting process as to how bricks have been made for centuries. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
Fun fact: Rebar actually decreases the long-term durability of concrete. It's why Roman structures can still stand while bridges crack in just 10 years.
Rebar just increases the strength, or how much weight it can hold. A massive trade-off.
As we were building with LEGOs, I asked my 5 y/o grandson if he knew what an adobe brick was…fast forward to this awesome video! Enough dirt, digging, and mixing to satisfy him, without too much unnecessary detail. Hoping his other videos are a kid-friendly as this one was.
3 years - holy moly. I started to watch this channel around the making of the first part of the hut. This is a long time. Thanks for the content so far.
I dig the voice over! Having context for the various timeframes you are working in has really also made me appreciate how hard you work at this. This is amazing. Good job 👍
I love how simple and down to earth this guy is just not because of the ancient work he does very well, but man he got 1.5+ M subs and still reply most of cmts
The only "Adobe" product which comes without a subscription
Hahaha! Good one.
Great video again. And I bet - no, I know - kneading the mud is extremely satisfying.
Ok, I tell:
When the 2019s winter storm hit the forrest near our garden, some trees fell down and (it is birch and pine) the roots were lifted up so the earth opens like a mouth. 20 cm below surface started a layer of almost pure yellow to beige clay. And I digged 2 buckets of this earth and strained it with water in our garden until I had 1 bucket full of pure, fine clay. I mixed it with old hardened clay-dust and made tiny bricks out of it for my son to play with, like Lego. They are super strong and fun to play with.
If you read the full story, have a nice day and a pleasant week.
Man! I don't know where you film these videos, but it has to be close to where I live because all the plants and animals are the same. I thought primitive technology videos were only possible to make in places like southeast Asia. You've proven me wrong. Thank you a lot for making me appreciate my environment! You gained yourself a subscriber.
I felt the same way!! I’ve been looking for videos like this. I want to build some things on the property, but I want to do it in a way that is more natural to my environment. He could have filmed this video in my backyard!!
So glad you made this video, I commented a couple months ago that I am making a hut similar to your project. There is only 2 layers of bricks on it, and I’ve covered it for the upcoming snow. I hope it holds up throughout winter so I can resume building. Wish me luck! :)
Good luck 👍🏻
@@sandoxt Thanks :) its still around after multiple rainstorms with no cover

I bet that he always got an A+ in arts and crafts
He was the kid who always played with mud.
Agreed
I am planning on making an adobe chicken coup. I have learned so much from youtube channels, including this one. Thanks. I think it is going to be the most amazing chicken coup ever. I also need to learn from chicken experts to make it something that works for them.

Hello
I'm glad to see someone using something besides straw. I want to only use stuff from the wild or that I made/grew myself, and I haven't grown any grain to harvest straw from. This gives me confidence that I am doing this right by using dried grass. Btw, if anyone is trying this, don't use lawn clippings. Pick some long grass. You'll need fibers at least 6". If you use lawn clippings, you're going to be like "Darn. That guy in the TH-cam comments was right."
Also, cattail leaves are kind of unweildly in the mix due to their bredth and trying to tear them lengthwise doesn't work too great and they aren't really that strong. I prefer dry long grass. I have yet to experiment with other fibers, but some could be way better. But probably grass is the best combination of convenience and quality.
I like your chanel more and more. This "primitive" technics gives you a sense of what you are doing.
Can't wait for Adobe photoshop
You really know how to be one with nature man and those bricks are going to hold for a very longtime too
Wonderful Video! Thank you so much! Our 4th Grade Classroom wants to say Thanks!! Mr. Alvarez YHE GISD NM!
Alright now I want to know the ancient technique of making Adobe Photoshop
Hi I support you subscribe
You can add ash and/or sawdust to the mixture to make it even stronger.
That's interesting! Why is that?
I found the remnant of an adobe house just northeast of the Saltillo airport in Mexico. Although it's a hundred years old, straw remains sticking out of it.
I’ve seen old adobe walls in several places in Mexico and Southern California. Even when fully exposed to the elements it can endure a long time.
Great video and teaching techniques, visual examples are the best. I love the voice over, narrative.
Wow amazing video! Good job

Good work👍👍👍
Chad😍😍😍 i miss you so much❤❤❤
Really informative, great mix of spoken parts and such without voice
I like your video greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩

Ага тоже самое
Только он зря кирпичи лепил. В таком климате быстрее хижину сплести из веток и просто обмазать стены.А то столько труда, а встать не может. И лечь нормально тоже.
@Adymn Sani the recipe for a moderate adobe is 25% clay and 75% sand, then add a binder
@@ИванСидоров-п2т It's just that hes doing this in vain. In that climate it is quicker to weave a hut out of branches and smear it with mud.....(note; in English we say "It is simpler to make a wattle and daub house) It's just that it seems like so much work, and yet you can't even stand up in it nor lie down full length in it.
Make video about make pot from wood ash

Hey man love your videos! Do you know about a trend where various experts of different topics react to movies or videogames about what they're experts at? Could you do something like that? It would be very fun to watch! i don't know if you play videogames at all but, there's a very fun and challenging survival simulator game called green hell, where you get lost in the amazonian jungle and you have to survive it to escape! It's pretty good and realistic too! it would be awesome if you could react to it or even play it!
Did you make a video on how you construct a loincloth?
