The Angels came from Adam, not Lilith. The whole reason the Angels are attacking is because no two seeds of life were supposed to land on the same planet, especially one that is carrying the fruit of knowledge, the blood of which normal life evolves, and a seed with the fruit of life, such as Adam, where Angels come from through some unknown process, but both Adam and lilith landed on Earth. The reason for not wanting this is because the first ancestral race of the universe were a godlike species and possessed both the fruit of life, and fruit of knowledge. They didn't want any other species to possess both of them and ascend to a godlike state. The fruit of life grants power and the fruit of knowledge grants intelligence. The fruit of knowledge is immaterial and is possessed by all humans and possibly other beings from earth as well as Lilith and unit 01 which was created using a tissue sample from lilith. The fruit of life is the s2 engine, which unit 1 ate from an angel, thereby becoming what the First Ancestral race attempted to prevent. This extended to shinji.
Personally I like to think that the two endings are connected and the original ending is what’s happening to shinji internally and his thought process while the End Of Evangelion is what’s happening externally with everyone else. Just my opinion.
not only your opinion, most think like this. I think whoever wrote the script for this centered too literally in Shinji strangling Asuka as a negative thing when it can, and most times is, recognized as a sign of him demanding her to recognise him. Specially at the end when he already stops the instrumentality project (when he already recognizes his self-worth in the anime ending and thus demanding her to recognise it too in the movie ending)
I also believe that, although I'm confused AF what I believe is that Shinji was able to accept himself and others and thus had the world stay like it is for another chance at living
@@lamasu8060 Shinji, along with most of the cast, was intended to be the embodiment of overcoming depression and, by extension, to represent the viewer (or those that can relate).
I found the EOE ending more uplifting than the TV ending... in the TV ending, the characters end their stories in this single conciousness, implying that it *is* the ultimate end for their stories, but I simply can't reconcile it. Something about it is twisted and wrong. It puts all the blame on Shinji and doesn't resolve the impact of the other characters. It strips humanity of *humanity* and implies that it's true that we cannot become healthy people without existing in a world where the 3rd impact happens. In contrast, in EOE, Asuka and Shinji both decide that they want to resolve their problems simply because they want to be alive and have seen the value in relationships despite the trauma. They are returned to the real world because they have embraced their humanity and are given a chance to make things right on their own, physical terms. I think Shinji *does* finally come to terms with his situation in EOE.
Yeah, was really weird to me that this video tried to pin Shinji as not changing and doomed to fail despite him finally deciding he wants to continue living no matter what
It's nightmare fuel is all I've gathered. Yet i'm still intrigued 🤔 They also all seem to have different skull structures (Unit 1 having two eyes, unit 0 being a cyclops, and unit 2 having four eyes
In the end hes not an angel-kicking gundam warrior nor main character the savior of all, he's simply human just like us fighting depression or simply running away from it hes scared of what other people think of him hes afraid of judgement. Mainly the anime is just him finding a worth to his existence. That is what I think the show is trying to tell us
Indeed if the show was trying to interpret what a 14 year old would look like who's got the world in his hands. Then yes. They made the most naive, short-sighted,can't get the big picture character. Befitting of a 14 year old. The reason why this anime is sometimes hated is because the people who's hating can't relate to shinji(that includes me). Why make a plot of letting 14year olds fight for the safety of humanity. I'n the end this anime can do just fine without the big robots and waves of angels and still get your plot of philosophy expressed
@@lordlopikong6940 From what I comprehend is this show was all about hideki anno and his depression, the last 2 episode was all like anno in the end accept himself for whatever he is,I don't think I could ever understand the main plot by joining the dots there is simply so much information left unspecified
This is not Evangelion's Ending "Explained", this is heavily a personal interpretation more than anything. Most of this information is not officially confirmed anywhere and parts of it are blatantly wrong. Especially regarding the final scene of the movie, a rather darker and crueler tone was given to it by this review when in reality it is supposed to serve as a catharsis to the series. Shinji reaches out to strangle Asuka to confirm that rejection and denial exist once more i.e. that he is no longer in Instrumentality. By going back to a world where rejection and denial exist, Shinji has admitted that he feared them, and faced that fear. He has confessed that Asuka's and Rei's accusations in the earlier scene were true, that he locked people out too tightly because he feared abandonment. As Shinji strangles Asuka, she reaches up and caresses him, countering that although rejection and denial exist again, acceptance also exists again-people have the choice to accept others into their hearts, just as they have the choice to deny others. And with this, Asuka confesses that Shinji's accusations in the earlier scene were true: Asuka resisted, at every level, accepting Shinji (and by proxy, everyone) into her heart, by yelling at him, demeaning him, and violently rejecting the rudimentary efforts he did make to get closer to her. But now that Shinji's managed to stop fearing rejection from everyone, Asuka's learned to stop rejecting everyone. Shinji knows he can't passively wait for someone to accept him; Asuka knows that she can't keep rejecting everyone. Realizing that Asuka intends to stop rejecting him, Shinji breaks down in tears. Asuka responds "Kimochi warui"; to accept someone feels weird, foreign, and disgusting to her, because she's always resisted it.
Such a hypocritical thing to say that the video is not facts and only is an interpretation of what happened, yet you come here also saying your own interpretation lol
@@Gaia_Gaistar that's how I understood it. Adam-type beings and Lilith-type beings were not supposed to coexist on a single world, which is why both sides struggle during the series... Riiiight? :(

Spoilers>>> if you looked at end of eva as a sad and depressing ending then I suggest watching the movie again after you overcome the shock. No one actually died besides maybe Gendo and everyone is free to leave the tang realm. The message of the movie (which Yui and Rei spell out for you) is actually uplifting. Also the choking scene is up for interpretation but I personally believe that it was basically a continuation of where they left off. Shinji after becoming one with asuka beforehand knew her true feelings, he hated it but stopped choking when asuka caringly touches him. Asuka despite being Asuka doesn't angrily react to Shinji, instead she understands him after being one with him. The bandages and stuff on her possibly represents her recovering as a person. Shinji, ashamed of what he did, cries. Another interpretation is shinji just wanted to see if he was still in the tang world so he choked asuka to see if what he was feeling was real. But yeah, interpret the ending however you want, there's no definitive answer.
Eh...I don't have a ton of friends that have ever seen NGE or really watch anime in general so I end up being pretty oblivious to it all. It's been pretty exciting to see all this new stuff about NGE pop up on TH-cam. I started calling it that back in maybe 98 when my friend Yousef lent me his entire VHS collection.
The most deep and depressing anime I've ever finished. I'm weary of rewatching it again but you'll notice things you didn't see when you first watched it.
I'm not entirely sure it is. Yes, everyone is gone, but the potential for rebirth is there. In the end, we must accept our pain because we cannot just be alone because it's easier. We need others, even if it hurts us.
It’s deep, depressing? Maybe at first. In the end whats so sad about it? No one actually died, everyone was actually joined together as one, this way Shinji didn’t have to rely on other people to accept himself. Everyone is finally at peace together and just moved from the Tang world that the movie closes in, i actually think the endings pretty nice
For a less confusing but equally depressing and thought provoking story, watch Devilman Crybaby on Netflix. It's insanely fast paced (I actually wish it was twice as long tbh) and has a solid and plainly understood message and story. If you want something with a certain ending that still makes you want to die... DMCB lol
The problem with the ending of Neon Genesis is that the Instrumentality Project happens off screen and with little to no explanation. If they had one episode showing it happen and then an episode after showing the consequences it would have been great.
Damn Shinji reminds me of my brother. He hates himself too. It destroys his life. He is also unable to reach out to people. I would be so happy when there is a happy ending for him. I think the endings are easier to understand when you have a Shinji in your life and you wish that he would accept and love himself.
idk if this is serious, but its probably relevant to the sexual symbolism of the movie. symbolising biological life, and as misato said, a sign that you once lived through the existence of your offspring
matteo testani he didn’t become the strongest you fool, he just got weather’s disc which caused him to have weather’s stand and that helped him kill pucci

@@babysnails1156 well that's just sad that you got it that way, I thought the animes portrayal of instrumentality, may it be from the main series and to the movie, is very unique and groundbreaking. The animations and the therapy-like dialogue is very beautiful both in the series and on the movie. But you wouldn't able to see that unless you're an action loving kid, or slice of life lover, or just isn't with your taste in general, which makes my essay useless.
Yeah, nobody does. This is what happens when you try to find the answer to the meaning of life and what reality is. Evangelion conveys this theme... I wished I never watched this in the first place.
@@subparticle8995 I mean, pointing out that she is a woman it seems like you are attributing what you are criticizing to the fact that she is one. And I'm sure American women are also all very different.
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Eva, but I took the “end of evangelion” to be more fleshed out than the original anime version. Shinji decides to return to his human form even though he knows he’ll feel pain again. Him choking Asuka was his most raw emotion prior to losing form. A mix of embarrassment/ shame and longing for empathy from her surging back to him after regaining consciousness.
The whole reason Shinji and Asuka are left is because Shinji reaches the same conclusion as the TV series. Also you can't just name drop the First Ancestral Race without explaining what they are. I'd recommend new watchers to look elsewhere for answers.
I think they’re better off not mentioning the FAR at all, the show and movie should be able to stand by itself without fairly obscure supplementary material.
Well, I don't think of the two endings as two separate endings but instead, I think that both are just different aspects of the same ending. Instead of searching for the differences in the endings, I think it would be better if we related the two. I think the ending of the original NGE showed the instrumentality process, what was going through Shinji's mind during the process, and how he could've had a reality where he was happy without any worries. The EoE ending however shows the other side of the instrumentality process, the other reality where everything just gets worse for Shinji, he is unable to overcome his problems so he instead shut himself off and tried to get rid of everything that said otherwise like when he tried to strangle Asuka. Anno tries to covey a very deep, meaningful, and quite confusing message which might be pretty difficult for people to process. You may or may not like the show but you cannot deny how influential it was and is probably one of the most impactful anime still to date.
Y'all kinda missed the fact that Shinji rejects Instrumentality in both endings... most importantly he does not let it continue in EoE. Shinji is very clearly told by Yui that each individual person can choose to return to their separate state outside of Instrumentality. C'mon now.
The scene where Shinji strangles Asuka on the beach could also be seen as him trying to prove to himself that he is no longer a part of the human instrumentality, that he is out of the LCL. It is often said that Shinji recognises the thing that causes him the most pain, is when he inflicts pain onto others. In this scene, rather than being faced with what he thought would be the death of Asuka, the ultimate pain to inflict on someone that, in turn, would inflict pain onto him, Asuka caresses his cheek. She returns the gesture with love. Not only does it show that Shinji's actions continue to be contradictory to what he was trying to learn, it also leaves him in a state of confusion, unable to ascertain if he is still a part of the LCL or not. What should have brought him pain, gave him love, and that throws him for a complete whirlwind that proceeds with him responding by laying there for what we can assume to be a long period of time (the passage of time can be noted by the rusting of the cross that Misato gave to Shinji before her passing.)
The ending wasn't really depressing. It was really thought-provoking no matter how absurd it was. I prefer the EoE ending much better 'cause we get a little explanation enough to tinker about and a proper closure.
It’s just strange, since there was so much different characters and people to fight, and then it went from something like a battle anime to a psychological anime like what happened to the actual world not just Sinji
The reason he strangles Asuka at the beach wasn’t because he learned nothing, it was because he wanted to check if it was still all an illusion since he was having so many that were so real that he didn’t know if he now was in real life, when he felt Asuka’s touch he knew that this was the real one and immediately stopped and felt bad.

I think Shinji *does* finally come to terms with his situation in EOE.

basically this anime is the detailed version of depression and confusion in 2d animation trying to find answer about life
In the end hes not an angel-kicking gundam warrior nor main character the savior of all, he's simply human just like us fighting depression or simply running away from it hes scared of what other people think of him hes afraid of judgement.

I am both happy and sad that I watched this
LMFAO
I'm not the only one that refers to LCL as TANG!!!!! I thought I was alone in that.

6th time rewatching it I really don’t know why but I think it’s a problem
DMCB lol
Oh like the part where shinji beat off in the hospital???
The problem with the ending of Neon Genesis is that the Instrumentality Project happens off screen and with little to no explanation. If they had one episode showing it happen and then an episode after showing the consequences it would have been great.
Damn Shinji reminds me of my brother. He hates himself too. It destroys his life. He is also unable to reach out to people. I would be so happy when there is a happy ending for him.
I think the endings are easier to understand when you have a Shinji in your life and you wish that he would accept and love himself.

Big oof
“FNAF lore is too hard to understand!”
Evangelion: “Allow me to introduce myself”
ElTacoNazo92 I’d typically recommend evageeks wiki to read further or the manga... it’s better than the fandom page tbh
Still better than what the show provides in regards to the First Ancestral Race...

Nooooowww it all makes sense, literally
Superb explanation
Alternate ending: shinji never left that angel ball space and his mind is now being controlled by the angel.
The explanation just made me even more confused
The ending wasn't really depressing. It was really thought-provoking no matter how absurd it was. I prefer the EoE ending much better 'cause we get a little explanation enough to tinker about and a proper closure.
