Great video. Just updated a few weeks ago on my MY20 with usb, and the proces was indeed very easy, did take a fair amount of time in the car. About an hour or so. No issues with the UVO.
Great video again! My Kia dealer updated the software when I brought my Niro EV in for maintenance last October. Easy. But I agree about the new radio layout. It looks odd and there is some obvious waste of space on the screen. That is a valid point on the 10.3-inch screen I got too.
I always liked the Vacuum Tube radio interface. I do find the graphical display of the climate vents very hard to see most of the time there isn't a lot of contrast between the flow indicator and the background. I have a 2020 Kona Ultimate.
I like the look of vacuum tubes as well, and agree that the contrast of the air flow is a bit low and difficult to see in brighter light. I still think it looks cool though 😎
I don't know if it's available on the models with sd-card, but on my 2020 Hyundai Kona there is an option to apply the update with the car switched off. It's a lot easier as there's no need to sit in the car while it applies the update. You can also select a delay between the time the car is switched off and the time the update applies although the default is 0 minutes which is probably what most people would want. If you apply the update this way (and you have Bluelink) you get a notification on your mobile phone when the update has finished.

Thank you very much. The update via USB for 2020 and newer vehicles requires the USB key to be formatted in FAT32, but I don't see why you could not use an external hard drive as long as it is formatted as FAT32. The issue is that you would format an entire external hard drive and render it useless for anything else if you did that, until you formatted it again to use for other storage.
André, good video. It reminds me to check again for an update. My last update that I preformed was November 2020 it appears and mine has the same Radio theme that you just saw. I have the 2019 Niro EV in the US. Maybe they sent you the prior update? I’ll check this weekend and see what I find for an update.
Thanks Mike. Since I received one of the first Niro EVs in Canada, arrived in Montréal in April 2019, I had an old software in the car. I updated it in 2020 with the purchased SD card, as seen in the video I made in 2020, then again in 2021 with the free update software, but I held off getting any newer updates because I did not want the purple interface.
After using the updated version for a few days I found that I hate the new preset stations at the bottom of the screen because you can't scroll left, you can only use the next page button. So if you have 4 pages of presets, and you are on page 2 of those presets, if you want to get to a channel that is on page one you have to scroll through pages 3 and 4 before getting back to page 1. Pretty stupid.

Thanks Andre for sharing the process of getting the software update. Looks like they have now developed a PC software to get the latest updates. I did mine last year after downloading from their website. Will check to see if they have a new update for Niro-2020. Also, have you experienced any slowness issues with the new version? At times I see that it sort of freezes up/stuck at loading the interface after starting the car. Would take a minute or two to load the default apps like map/music player etc on home screen. Another thing related to UVO service. I know it’s free for 5 years, but do we know how much they are going to charge consumers after the free period is over? I wonder operating the maps without the UVO could be tricky as the other day looked like they had some maps outage and I was not able to navigate the addresses as it’s taking 4-5 minutes to just search the place, even when the offline mode should work flawlessly. Thanks!
They release software updates once or twice per year so I am sure you will have an update. They add new charging stations, points of interest, as well as bug fixes. I have not had any issues with mine, it has worked perfectly so far. Did you try resetting yours to factory default? You can do it in the setup settings. The UVO services are 5 years for the 2019 Niro EV, but only 3 years for newer models. I don't know what the cost will be after that though. Hi! Thanks for a great video. I was wondering if you have any information about how accurate the information is about battery state of health (SoH) that you can retrieve from your OBD-port. I personally own a 2020 Hyundai kona electric 64kwh and my data shows that SoH is 100%. I have driven about 10 000 km. Also I have seen youtube-videos of Hyundai Ioniqs that have 160 000km with 100% SoH. I feel it seems almost too good to be true. What are your thoughts? Kindest regards from Björn in Sweden.
Thank you very much. Regarding your question, you have to consider that the loss of capacity happens at the top part of the battery that you don't have access to. You know your battery as a 64kWh, but it is larger than that, you only get to use 64kWh of it. I have 58,000km driven and my Niro EV still shows 100% state of health, and I believe it, but know it relates to the useable 64kWh, not the actual full battery capacity.
@@EV-olution Thank you for replying. That is kind of what I suspected. Great news for second hand value I guess. I know that Kia and Hyundai are famous for their efficient vehicles, do you know if they are also better than other brands in terms of low battery degradation? I don't have any official data, but based on anecdotal information, the Kona, Niro, and 2020 and up Soul and Ioniq, should all have excellent battery life with little degradation.
@@EV-olution Hi! I have understood that it is not possible to use the V2L-adapter (for Ioniq 5/EV6) on Hyundai Kona/Kia e-niro. @@bjornohgren7066 the V2L feature of the EV6 and Ioniq 5 is based on the electronics of the car, not the wiring and the adapter, those are just part of the puzzle. This is not something I know about, but I do know you should choose a pure sine wave inverter.
Hello, the sd that comes with the car can can be used for thr update? Becuse if it has thr capacity (its on a 2017 kia Sorento) i would format the current SD card that on thr car and have the software installed on it, is that possible or will it cause problems?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yes, you can use the original SD card that came with the car. I used a second card because I wanted to keep the original files, but you can simply copy the entire contents of the card to your computer before using the software to update it. That is what I did for my wife's 2019 Soul EV.
No, I never noticed that happening, but if a second phone is connected to Bluetooth and you connect a phone for Android Auto, the other phone will get disconnected since the Android Auto phone has priority. It did this before the update and still does it.
So, in valet mode, besides hiding your personal information, and showing engine off time and driving distance/time/speed, it should also limit the max speed to the km/h of the owner's choice.
I have not used it yet, or played with the settings, I am not sure of all of the details, but the valet mode also tracks start time, ignition status, top speed driven, total distance driven, and total time on.
This may be a sill question, but can the update be done while the car is charging? I'm thinking I could set it up while I charge overnight. The downside is the car has to be on I guess. I'm just impatient and hate waiting for things to finish haha!
That is not a silly question, it's a good one. It would seem that if you already have the purple version of the software there is an option to have the update start after you power off the car. I would imagine that the 30 minutes required for the update are not going to cause an issue for the 12V battery, or maybe the car activates the inverter to keep the 12V charged. In any case, you would have to test to see if it works while you are charging the car. Alternatively you could do what I did with my wife's car; I started the update with the car fully on, then I got out and locked the door with the physical key and went inside for 30 minutes.
The update process should be identical for all modern Hyundai and Kia vehicles. If you install the software on your PC you will be able to see if your vehicle is listed. Since it is so new it may not be in the list yet, just like my EV6 when I got it in March, but it is now listed.
You can find out by installing the software and looking up the model of your cars, it's free. Mine is set for North America where we don't have your models of vehicles.
@@sayedmostafa2744 I am confused. When I installed the software it was in English by default and there were no language settings to change. To change the language you can click on the gear icon at the top right, the first line at the top has the country, the brand, then the language choice on the right. Choose the language that is appropriate for you.
When you create the USB key update the software formats the USB key, there should not be any audio on it. If it is playing audio then there is probably a problem with your update USB key. I would suggest recreating the update USB key with the software.
They removed the ability to change car brands from the software so I would have to uninstall and reinstall the Updater software. It costs you nothing to install it and look up your car though. That is what I would suggest.
Hi EV-olution, what if the country that you are in is not inside the update let say I'm in Singapore but there is no singapore in the update what country should I select?
I just had a quick look at the update site and you are correct, Singapore is not listed in the country list. This would mean that the service is not available for cars in your country, unless there is something I am not aware about. Have you tried reaching out to Kia in Singapore to ask about it? I would be curious to hear what they have to say.
So, I did this recently and my entertainment system has been less stable. Periodically when I start my Niro, it will shut itself down and reboot twice in a row. Then it will be fine for a few days. I hope they come out with a bug fix soon.
That is how you know if the software can update your car. Install it and search for your year and model. If you can't find it, them there is no update via the software. It's a shame older models are not supported by the software because they are still excellent vehicles. Have you asked your local dealership of they have an update for it?
I don't think you can make the region change yourself. I believe you may have to ask your Kia dealer to do it, but I cannot confirm. Have you tried to use the update for your region?
I don't know if the service department would accept that. I have not tried and never really thought about it because there is not much the dealer can take in terms of information that they don't already have in your service profile (address, name, phone number).
@@vipercccp I am guessing that due to parts shortages they are digging deep into inventory and some units from a while ago did not make it through the "First-in-First-out" process. As you said, it is strange.
I tried to update the Sorento but I kept getting no supported file message. I also noticed that the program keeps formating the USB to exFAT even after formatting it to FAT32. I tried the 2022 Sorento update but I have 2023 car maybe that's why. I'll try to download the 2021 update maybe that will work. Very strange
@@vipercccp I suggest using the software version to search for the correct software. It should give you exactly what is needed. You can find the file name in the information menu somewhere in Setup. Then just type the software model in the update software and it will show you the correct one. If you get no results then try the software version number instead. I have had to use both to find the right version, depending on the car model. As for the format type, exFAT is fine, that is what it does by default now.
Unfortunately, with the amount of requests that I get asking me to do things it would be a full time job if I fulfilled them, so I don't. Sorry. If you have a friend with a PC that would be the most efficient method of doing it.
Maybe. If you download the software you can do a search for your year of vehicle. If your car has an SD card, or other type of card, when you open the software and connect the card to the computer, the software will tell you if there is an updated version for it.
With regards to the colour, after updating my Soul the very first thing I did was start searching through the menus looking to see if the awful colour scheme could be changed. Spoiler, it cant. A couple of things I didn't hear you mention, the update changes the ability to divide the screen into three areas to two, and moves the apple car play icon down a click or two deeper in the menus away from the top level menu. Both of these are downgrades for no good reason.
You are correct, the colors cannot be changed. As for the screen division, I have a 2019 with an 8" screen and there is no split screen possible so I was not aware.
The V2L feature of the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 is more than just the adapter, it is an integral part of the charging system and programming. So unfortunately no, the e-Niro will not work work the V2L adapter.
Man that radio Nixie display and menu are tacky. It's even worse than the look and feel of the MG ZS EV I've tried a while ago. You know what we want, Kia? A way to disable the power on/off jingles, and maybe a way to keep kids cartoons playing when driving.
@@swaggod226 the updater software says your vehicle is supported so you have to create the updated SD card for your vehicle with the software. Once the SD card is ready, just put it in the vehicle and power on the car. It will do like in my video and update.

Absolutely no idea how to do it as it also says "files bigger than X amount cannot be transfered". Everything else is greyed out so what does that even mean? Having searched through settings, help etc. I'm none the wiser. Those warning cards that pop up are very intimidating if you think you're about to delete all your data or whatever and the language is incomprehensible! There's no way I could dare to attempt this in my car. I'm only in my sixties but of a more mechanical/artistic bent, or I was before being hampered by chronic illness. How are drivers with these sorts of impairments or lack of computer skills ever going to deal with things like this?! Thanks for the video, love the outtakes, they always cheer me up. 👍
I understand what you mean because my wife is not technically inclined, she leaves the car, computer and cell phone tech stuff to me, as you may have seen when she was in one of my past videos. For people in your situation you can ask your local dealer to perform the update when you bring the car in for an inspection. They should not charge very much because the actual physical intervention is only about 15 minutes. In my opinion they should only charge 0.25 or 0.5 hours of labour. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and I am glad my silly bloopers made you smile 😎

Question? Does this video apply to a 2023 Genesis GV80 Prestige
The update process should be identical for all modern Hyundai and Kia vehicles. If you install the software on your PC you will be able to see if your vehicle is listed. Since it is so new it may not be in the list yet, just like my EV6 when I got it in March, but it is now listed.
Do these programs support Kia Cerato K3 and Hyundai MD cars?
You can find out by installing the software and looking up the model of your cars, it's free. Mine is set for North America where we don't have your models of vehicles.
@@EV-olution I found the model in the program, but I have another question, if possible, how can I change the language from Korean to English
@@sayedmostafa2744 I am confused. When I installed the software it was in English by default and there were no language settings to change. To change the language you can click on the gear icon at the top right, the first line at the top has the country, the brand, then the language choice on the right. Choose the language that is appropriate for you.
Justin,
I am updating a 2020 Santa Fe. Will my previous destinations be erased?
That depends on the version you had vs the version being installed. If it is a minor update then you should be fine and things will be saved.
@@EV-olution thanks. I’ll let you know what happens.
2019 Kia Sorento I do the process with a USB and insert it into the proper USB all it does is play audio and says retry
When you create the USB key update the software formats the USB key, there should not be any audio on it. If it is playing audio then there is probably a problem with your update USB key. I would suggest recreating the update USB key with the software.
@@EV-olution what is the USB key
A USB memory stick.
does this work for 2019 genesis g70 since there was never an 8 inch genesis specifiic OS it ran off hyundai OS
I have had no issues with mine. I would suggest doing a factory reset and updating again.
how about 2011 Kia Sorento ... Can this software do 2011...???? I downloaded but didn't see my year :(
That is how you know if the software can update your car. Install it and search for your year and model. If you can't find it, them there is no update via the software. It's a shame older models are not supported by the software because they are still excellent vehicles. Have you asked your local dealership of they have an update for it?
Gold! Tnx!
You are very welcome. I am glad I could help.
Is this something that can be installed on my telluride 21 non gps version it’s the 8 inch screen
If you don't have navigation then there is no update possible. Sorry.
Can I change map version from Korean? My car soul 2016
I don't think you can make the region change yourself. I believe you may have to ask your Kia dealer to do it, but I cannot confirm. Have you tried to use the update for your region?
Does this update include Apple CarPlay???
It depends on the year and model of your car. It costs nothing to do the update and see if the option is there.
Can you use valet mode when car goes in for a service or M.O.T ? just so you are not left open to any kind of identity fraud?
I don't know if the service department would accept that. I have not tried and never really thought about it because there is not much the dealer can take in terms of information that they don't already have in your service profile (address, name, phone number).
@@EV-olution very true and thanks for the reply
@@mattcarversbulldogges4917 my pleasure
For some reason my 2023 kia Sorento has the 2019 software on it ( not the purple one) although it's the full option car.
If you get the latest update it should fix everything.
I will and ur amazing video is extremely helpful. It's just weird that kia sent the car like this.
Would you be able to update the software and sell it to me for 2015 Kia. I don’t have a pc and my Mac isn’t accepting the download.
Unfortunately, with the amount of requests that I get asking me to do things it would be a full time job if I fulfilled them, so I don't. Sorry. If you have a friend with a PC that would be the most efficient method of doing it.
can i do this for genesis 2012
Anyone know if you can use v2l on the kia eniro?
The V2L feature of the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 is more than just the adapter, it is an integral part of the charging system and programming. So unfortunately no, the e-Niro will not work work the V2L adapter.
@@EV-olution ok too bad, so have to get a converter then, and do it like that way around
@@TheSc8rpion just make sure that you spend more on a pure sine wave inverter if you intend to run anything electronic, or that has a compressor.
Man that radio Nixie display and menu are tacky. It's even worse than the look and feel of the MG ZS EV I've tried a while ago. You know what we want, Kia? A way to disable the power on/off jingles, and maybe a way to keep kids cartoons playing when driving.
Doesn't look like it works with the 2014 kia forte
Unfortunately some older vehicles are not supported.
My SD card play music when I put it in my SD slot. Why is that
What make, model and year of car do you have? Was the card prepared with the software as described in this video?
@@EV-olution 2019 Tuscon
@@swaggod226 the updater software says your vehicle is supported so you have to create the updated SD card for your vehicle with the software. Once the SD card is ready, just put it in the vehicle and power on the car. It will do like in my video and update.
@@EV-olution can't find where its located at look
If you use the link in the description, to download the software, and follow my video exactly, it should work. Otherwise you will have to visit your dealership.
This was ever so interesting but how are older people who haven't had the benefit of growing up with computers meant to cope? I can just about work my smartphone, I'm using it now but I'm not completely competent. For example it's got a 125(?mg? gig? possibly) SD card in it but still keeps telling me "phone is full transfer data to SD card"....
@@EV-olution gosh that is a relief, thanks André. 🙏👍
Flups... hahahahaha!
Hi - thanks for making this video. Unfortunately, we need this much 'education' with Kia/Hyundai. We've had this 'radio' screen since the April '21 update I believe on our Seltos's in the U.S. I had the same problem with Valet - it didn't work, called, never heard, then about a month later it started working...good thing to do while it's at the dealer!
Also, I didn't realize till just last month about the "List" (or "Channel List" on the 10.25" screen) button on the radio. I have some tips on using that screen re your presets (to see the whole Sirius channel 'name' like the old days) and how to use that screen to set up the ability to RECORD up to 10 stations beginning with when you start the car each time if interested:
Radio Channel list/record info:

update info - for those with USB like the '21 Seltos:

Thank you for the links. I found the list and a few other things in the interface, but I wanted to keep this video more aimed at the actual upgrade process, otherwise it would have been a 45 minute video like my Polestar 2 review 😉
@@EV-olution That's fine as long as you knew about the full names of the channels and recording capability. Those are important, or could be.... Not being able to see the full Sirius channel name and having to remember the numbers always bothered me.
Actually you can see the Sirius channel name to the left of the channel "tubes" on the top portion of the screen. It is a pretty small logo to read, but it is there.
@@EV-olution right, but as you displayed in your video, in the old radio main page setup you could see the Sirius channel numbers AND names on the left hand side. Now. At the bottom of the main radio screen all you see are numbers which really was disappointing. So at least the Channel List lets you see all of your preset full channel names without having to remember the numbers which at my age I cannot do. I'll just couldn't believe I had missed that Channel List page for the last year!
@@douglastaylor999 ah, now I get what you mean. Yes, it was convenient the way it was set up before.
