definitely my favorite time of year on this channel, the annual halloween marathon featuring the old episodes of sammy terry... didn't grow up with him (and george!) but I see him here every year so it's kind of a tradition now, haha.

You have to wonder what the pitch for a movie like Soul Man was, and what made the studio say yes. I mean, if I was a struggling writer back then, and knew my idea had been rejected, but Soul Man got accepted, I might have been upset.

It almost makes me wonder if the movie was made to generate controversy, as it ultimately was successful at the time, even if virtually nobody talks about it today.
@@80sCommercialVault I will say this for the movie - it has a great music video for the film's title song, performed by Sam Moore and Lou Reed. @@80sCommercialVault I'll also say that Soul Man, like Just One of the Guys, owes a lot to Tootsie. If you watch the three movies in close succession, certain repeated plot points or bits of characterization are noticable.
@@fossefan A lot of screenplays definitely start out as carbon copies of more successful films. The subject matter might change but the story beats generally are the same.
The Bounty commercial with Nancy Walker (AKA Rosie) reminds me of seeing the movie The Bounty in 1984 when I was 4. The only thing that I remember is being confused about where Rosie was.

Oh, I'll give Southern Belle a pass on the lack of accent, A bad fake southern accent would have been awful. I think she may have also had a hint of what passes for a "southern" accent in the midwest.
