    This race shows the importance for sprinters to always rinse your ears before competition. This is where Blake lost the WR.

    Incredible video. One thing that does have to be said about Bolt’s 200 though it that he did it with all the rounds on his legs. Both of these legends truly left so much more in the tank in the 2.

    I disagree that Blake's 19.26 is the best performance ever. If you only convert the reaction times to be the same (0.1) Bolt's 19.19 becomes *19.16,* Blake's 19.26 becomes *19.09* and Bolt's 19.30 becomes *19.22.*
    But you've got to factor in the wind. Bolt's now 19.16 (19.19 with a 0.133 RT) becomes *19.13* with no wind and 0.1 reaction time, Blake's 19.09 (19.26 with a 0.269 RT) becomes *19.15* with no wind and 0.1 reaction time and Bolt's 19.22 (19.30 with a 0.182 RT) becomes *19.13* with no wind and 0.1 reaction time. So if you make the winds and reaction times the same, the actual 'fastest' run is both Bolt's 19.19 (now 19.13) AND Bolt's 19.30 (now 19.13), followed by Blake's 19.26 (now 19.15).
    Not to mention Bolt ran both his 19.19 and 19.30 after many rounds of the 100 and 200 whereas Blake ran his fresh. AND, Blake also ran his 19.26 on an easier curve, making it a lot easier to maintain high speeds.
    So at face value, just looking at reaction times Blake's 19.26 is the fastest, however if you look at the wind as well, you'd see it's not.

      Good analysis. With Bolt running his times into a slight headwind I was thinking along the same lines but was too lazy to do the actual brain work.
      Still Blake's race that day was absolutely monstrous. Remember watching it back then and couldn't believe my eyes thinking there had to be something wrong with the timing. And then realizing his reaction time and start was atrocious. Insane. Chasing Dix who was flying through the curve the first 100 m ,maybe what spurred Blake on to run that fast on his second 100 m.

    • @AthleticsEditz
      @AthleticsEditz 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@galmud1508 Yeah I think Blake's run was wayyy more visually pleasing than Bolt's, who tightened up a lot over the final 50m. If anyone's going to break that 200 world record (my bets are on Tebogo) it's going to be with a monstrous close since it's unlikely you're going to someone who's a 19.1 200m athlete AND a 9.5 100m athlete at the same time (mind you, that was what Bolt was lol).

    • @jaden5493
      @jaden5493 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @AthleticsEditz tbf the hard part is finding the 9.5 runner. Of course they'll probably need a leaner build for the 200 but you get my point. So yeah I agree the next 200m world record will rely on speed endurance and maybe acceleration instead of top speed

    • @galmud1508
      @galmud1508 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm also betting on Tebogo to break the 200 m wr. He's a very good 100 m runner and an awesome finisher in the 200. Given that he ran almost 43 seconds flat in the 4x400 m relay finals in Paris maybe he should do as Michael Johnson did and focus on the 200 and 400 m instead of the 100 + 200 m.

  • @aaronmbaye6498

    Don't forget that Usain bolt had to go through 4 rounds in the 200m to get to the finals. So his pretty tired by that point 👌🏾!

  • @qzroqzro

    Considering Bolt ran in a -0.3 headwind and Blake ran in a +0.7 tailwind, if we adjust for wind, isn’t it true that Bolt still ran faster even if we gave Blake the same reaction time as Bolt? At 0.0m/s, Bolt’s 19.19 ~19.16 and Blake’s 19.26~19.32 so Blake’s race with the same RT as Bolt would be 19.18.

    Around 10:15 you could just search up the dimensions of the Berlin and Brussels track respectively since they're both publicly available. You'll see that the Brussels track DOES have a shallower bend than the Berlin track, which was kind of obvious anyway (even wit the naked eye).

A little bit off the topic, what it would be really interesting (since you work a lot with data,information and visualization) if you could touch a little bit of data in regards of training techniques for sprinters or some relationships between some exercises and 100 meter times etc etc... Just something I would love to see sincce Im sprinter. Thx, amazing video as always

      Thank you and yes absolutely. I have been collecting video of sprinters training. For example Asafa squatting. Bolt doing some weight lifting. Ben Johnson benching and squatting (he appears to be a monster by the way). Tim Montgomery too. He wasn’t huge but he could lift!
      It’s in the works but it’s a big amount of effort. I will son for some time in January.
      I’d love to know your times and program if you can share.

  • @duncanharvey2209
    @duncanharvey2209 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    It's not that the open bend allows them to run it necessarily faster, though this is true. Especially given Blake ran one of the fastest opening 100s ever even with that reaction time. Its about being able to run the first 100m as fast or faster with much less effort, leading to faster final 100's. The track has such a large turn radius it's barely legal. Bolt ran 19.5 on it in the cold and wet and given Blake never came remotely close to this whilst being in far better shape in 2012 as well as Dix also being belted by Bolt just prior but then manages to find nearly two tenths, shows the anomalous nature of the track.

      This is a very insightful comment. You have set me thinking. I’ll come back to you. Basically I think I should look into PBs on the track. Or near PBs. Thanks for the energy idea too. I hadn’t thought of it that way.

      Which is why I was a bit annoyed that Brussels was the DL Final in 2024 as it meant Tebogo and Kenny would both be really fatigued after a long season (Kenny ran 'only' 19.67 to win and Tebogo 'only' ran 19.80 for 2nd). Hopefully in 2025 they'll be a bit fresher by the time it comes to Brussels since the meet's held BEFORE Tokyo AND it's not even the DL Final next year. Especially since the track got re-done after 2022 so it's not the same material as the old track that Blake ran his 19.26 on (which makes that even more impressive!)! That should allow for even faster times than in the past!

    • @duncanharvey2209
      @duncanharvey2209 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@roughlyestimated I've actually always wondered why more athletes don't go there literally to run records and qualifying times for the 200. If they started running big events at the right time of season, it might become more obvious. I'm personally not onboard with it. A track should be the standard dimensions and specifications otherwise we might as well allow straight runs to be included as well (exaggeration I know).

    • @duncanharvey2209
      @duncanharvey2209 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @AthleticsEditz Very possible but I don't agree with using different track dimensions. I think the risk of breaking records, even your own national record, is right up there with racing at high altitudes. Doesn't count and shouldn't be ratified. I presume it was a limitation of the space they had but I'd love to know why it was made this way as there are no other tracks used for elite competition like this. The US has some though.

    • @AthleticsEditz
      @AthleticsEditz 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@duncanharvey2209 I’m pretty sure there’s a range of what counts as a legal track and Brussels seems to fit in that range. If you really expected every single track to be exactly the same in every dimension then not happening lol. The reason why the Brussels track is like that? I don’t know.
