I was at the Riot Fest show and this totally came out of left field. Such a beautiful cover, it actually drove me to tears hearing it. Amazing weekend overall but Postal Service and Death Cab were some of the highlights.
As a long time '83 Depeche Mode fan, it is almost always nice to hear others interpretations of their music. This was a great cover. Great way to end a show!
I was at this show last week and it was absolutely incredible. I was in like the "10th row". the whole show was amzing, including and especially Lauren Mayberry from CHVCHES.
Great show and a solid finish. Crowd was loving it, and they were having fun on stage. Armchair analysts are going to make noise, but its part of why Postal and Death Cab worked. They were earnest and emotional even in the face of criticism.

Was at the Boston show on Wednesday night, loved this song and it sounded familiar but I couldn't figure out what it was, and it turns out it wasn't a Death Cab song I feel so dumb now that I'm realizing it was Depeche Mode lol
Nah, Postal Service is a 4 piece this go around: Jenny on the left, Ben in center, keys from DCFC on right and Jimmy on a riser in the back (with an xylophone et al.)
His voice is amazing for this song. Postal service cover with proper in studio stylistic changes could make it superior to the original to which I would say failures version is on par with out of many imitators
Sometimes you have to live in the momennt, and it was a nice closer. With hindsight, we could dissect this bonus track from our armchairs at length, but I was actually there and they seemed thrilled to play it and I do not look to DCFC to reinvent many wheels for me, I just like the way they sound out of the packaging.
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING comes even close to the original Depeche Mode Enjoy the Silence or any other DM song for that matter... Definitely does not make it superior to the original... I can clearly see that you are not a DM fan... Dave's voice is the best voice ever for any DM song, nobody comes even close......
@@danielthommen8243 nah I think it’s more of a true dm fan to branch out and be able to compare/contrast different styles and moods. That’s why the covers and remixes online are so fun, Martins songs have all these twists and turns in their meanings … ETS is just their main commercial hit and I personally think Postal Service electro emo folk vibe is maybe the perfect fit for the lyrics
They played that really straight. Ngl i was disappointed with the arrangement. Not creative and didn't really make it unique to their sound. I was waiting for a bridge or cadenza which never came.
There's a fantastic tribute album with some truly fantastic covers. Ones with twists. No disrespect but this one is kind of lifeless. Check out " For the Masses" 1998
Lol the wikipedia entry for DM lists Pop as their 2nd genre. Imagine looking to the Mode for your rock quota, what a trip! The sheer AUDACITY of an electronic pop outfit covering another electronic pop outfit faithfully, the fact that they didn't interpolate or jam out (did some dude really use the word 'credenza' in his comment here?) is unforgiveable. Tamborello should have just done a dubstep remix of it, from the sound of all these high pitched whines I am hearing!
Yeah, all 6500 people in the audience totally fell asleep as they were junping around in joy playing this. Don't wake them, they plan on sleeping in...
So true, if only one of the people covering this was capable of, say, single handledly carrying a sold out double headline show with 2 orignal LPs released in the same year still being celebrated by new generations 20 years later. Dude is BANKRUPT! DEVOID OF ORIGINALITY!
It takes a lot of balls to take on a such a loved, revered and iconic song like theis, and THEN to actually SLAY IT!

I get to see them Tomorrow, I can’t wait!!! I’m going to boogie nonstop!!!
Depeche Mode 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I remember "the last good record we've made" remark from somewhere lol
Thanks for uploading. I'm hoping to be able to snag a ticket for the Phoenix show. Copium that the price will drop so
In the same boat. Single PITGA ticket is still north of $200 :(
Look at it is as an expense amortized over 10 years
@@phonographic-ht6ek let's not stop at 10yrs, let's offer 30yr concert ticket mortgages. We'll be paying off our 2030 Hot Chip ticket when we're 80.

So did all 7 of them play the whole concert together?
no, just encore

As far as encores go, I'd say it was better than nothing!
Yeah I didn’t understand why they chose to do a cover for their encore. They should have done soul meets body! That would have been epic.
There's a fantastic tribute album with some truly fantastic covers. Ones with twists. No disrespect but this one is kind of lifeless.

This was a rough cover. Someone should have said "hey maybe not this song guys"
I agree. They should done soul meets body instead!
One of those covers that makes me long for the original. They've turned a rock song into a pop song, and it takes the guts out of it.
Said NO ONE ever!? 🤷🏻♂️
Totally agree, this is just dead music.

have you only heard the mike shinoda version or something? ets was always a pop song 🥴
Actually, “Enjoy the Silence” IS a pop song first and foremost.
I’m an old death cab fan. What happened to them?! Sooo bland. If you do a cover, do it very different or it’s gonna suck against the original.
Nothing is ever as good as it was.
Kinda boring

I just watched it again. It's horrible.
Watch it a few more times and get back to me. I'm eager to hear how much you hate it after your tenth/twentieth listen.
This is what creative bankruptcy sounds like.
"Derrr hey guys, let's cover the most covered song ever!"
They should be f*cking embarrassed.

I cover this song every time i go to karaoke. I say "derr" and am creatively bankrupt too. But I AWAYS pull.
Painful to me.
There are some songs that should never, ever be covered.
What's the top one in your opinion? This?
@@phonographic-ht6ek right now it's this one.
