    Just wanted to add for anyone stumbling on this vid, they changed the attack pattern for the ironhelm and push attack chains into a heavy wide sweep now, while push without attack chains into H3 overhead. It is an absolutely phenomenal weapon to use now :-) H1->H2 can also be reset with block to keep up the horde clear without going to H3 overhead.

    I was using the ironhelm before they changed the swing pattern, the change has forced me into a combat knife build which to be fair has worked out a lot better for me. Running chorus/crit bleed build has shown me the light, the frequency at which chorus can be spammed with this build is kind of insane.

      IMO chorus is way underrated. I rarely see zealots run it and if I do they're really cagey with it for some reason. Its such a good ability and it helps even for pozwalker fights.

      @@MrUnreal9111 go down the tree near blazing piety it's the red talent, get the rake ability near the top of the tree as well, you just stack as much crit as possible and run the bleed blessing on the combat knife

    I always thought heavy 3 needed a shortcut, but I would've put it as a follow-up to a push, not push-attack. Either way, I never used the push-attack and always sprint cancelled heavy 2 back to heavy 1 so I was personally unaffected.

      I mostly used the heavy combo and accepted the overhead but I occasionally used the push attack to make up for missed sweeps.

    About the ironhelm, you can just tap block to reset your attack counter, works quite well for me. Thanks for the fun builds, I had to go back to the tanky setup as i don't feel safe with low toughness. saves you in situations where you make enough mistakes to get killed otherwise. It generally feels like the defensive talents are too good to pass up on zealot.

      I don't object to block canceling as a technique but I don't consider it an acceptable part of a core combo. Its usable though.
      I am glad you have had fun with the builds. I have a tanky build i made for soloing and its actually pretty fun. So I see the appeal.

      Its no longer usable, before you could (hit) (hit) (block) (counter strike) (hit) (hit)
      And now the counter strike counts as sweep so it is
      Hit hit block counter hit block counter hit

    Crucis 1 shot build is still viable but imho it just doesn't worth the effort. I just don't like that kinda stress when playing so Ironhelm's all-rounder status is more attractive -the push-attack follow-up change. Thinning out a mixed horde quicker is much more valuable than 1 shoting a monster.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Meant as in "minus the push-attack follow-up change". Because as you've stated it gets really confusing. Can always animation cancel but the earlier muscle memory still persists.

      I haven’t finished the vid so idk if you mentioned this, but they could’ve implemented EXACTLY what the eviscerator has. Push attack into heavy is the sweep push into the sweep heavy, but if you EMPTY push with no follow up, then start a heavy, it’ll be the overhead. That would make perfect sense for this hammer, empty push leading into overhead and push attack leading into heavy 2

      Also with the crucis it’s so frustrating when ur smack on a mauler or crusher is body blocked by a pox walker at the edge of ur fov.

    the ironhelm change was actually a bad change. it makes zero sense that the thunder hammer that already has built in cleave cant do a reliable cleaving attack chain anymore. Meanwhile the Cruis hammer that struggles to hit the correct single target, only has cleaving heavys. What the actual hell is fatshark doing, its like they dont even understand the weapon designs theve made.
    The rant portion of the video is exactly my thoughts. Its so bad, you should clip that rant portion and post it on the forums. I havent seen anyone else talking about besides this video

    On the mark with assessing the ironhelm. I always felt like its heavy attack combo should mirror its light attacks by being one horizontal and one vertical. That way we can have 2 distinct light/heavy combos for only horizontal swings or only vertical strikes.
    Also, I made a melee veteran similar to what you made and it's still fun without using the shotgun exploit.

    I'm still trying to make Scattershot + Flechette work on lawbringer, as you're right that it feels pretty meh in-game. I've had success with it killing Scab Maulers that are mixed into a pack of freshly spawned poxies/groaners, and the occasional stray pellet that hits a gunner off in the distance, but it isn't nearly as effective as Ogryn's Cavalcade/Flechette Rippergun. I'd like to try it on a Kantrael Shotty with the dragon's breath penetration shot to see if that procs more targets than the Lawbringer's duckbill. Maybe a deep vs wide approach will be better for this game? I'm also interested in the burn/bleed combo for potential interesting breakpoints.

      I love that idea on the kantrael, do try it and let us know if it works well. Perhaps the stacked DOTS will make it a real slayer. Maybe even a boss blaster?

    Since I haven't seen anyone comment this --- You can loop H2 L1 for an infinite cleave combo on the Ironhelm! I used to experiment a lot with VT2 weapons and this works just like the Warrior Priest's hammer where you can remove the overhead with a specific combo of lights and heavies! :D

    To avoid the overhead strike, just tap/hold sprint and it resets the combo to h1, H1-H2-tap/holdsprint brings it back to H1, you can make it like the crucis

      I don't like using tech, combos should be good not annoying. HOWEVER: thanks for the hot tip. I will add it to my testing repertoire to see which is the best horde clear combo for ironhelm.

    Great vid. I love the ability to cleave through crowds with the Ironhelm, however I feel that Crucis will still be king imo. 2-Swipe heavy combo? nasty.

      Its king for singlebonks but IMO its entirely inferior because of its high waste damage and unreliability in a messy fight which is most of them. I'd like to see it receive 1 cleave or some kinda aoe damage, something to prevent secret service poxwalkers from getting in the way.

    Thanks for this, very informative. I am more a fan of the Crucis One Bonk Family, but I do like the Ironhelm model more and, at some point, if you can one/two bonk ogryns, extra damage is only meaningful against monsters or bosses. Btw, have you noticed the injustice of being able to use a Crucis skin on an Ironhelm, but not an Ironhelm one for a Crucis hammer? Heresy!

      I will say that as the weapons go the ironhelm hits every breakpoint i could find that crucis can. Same number of hits for every target. The ironhelm just requires an ideal roll to do it with the right perks and blessings.

    The attack speed from martyrdom and chastise affect RoF of ranged weapons btw. Agrip braced auto has range, good specialist dps, and good horde clear. It's probably the best ranged weapon to pair with hammers rn.

      I find the braced autos really suffer when gap filling against shooters but I love playing with them. Thanks for the tip on martyrdom attack speed. Have you tried firing a braced auto w/ inexorable judgement after using chastise? If you fire on bullet that hits a target and then fire the rest you can get two mags worth of absurdly fast RoF. Its fun.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Unfortunately, zealot doesn't have any ranged weapons that clear both melee and ranged trash efficiently. However, good movement, pathing, and breaking lines of sight can help mitigate that. Sometimes, a group of shooters mixed with gunners and shotgunners is straight up worth a stun nade to lock them down before they spread out and set up overlapping fields of fire.

      The lawbringer does. It suffers from low ammo supply but it does both of the above well. Sadly most people hate it. But yes, zealot isn't really able to fill the horde clear and shooter clear role at the same time with most weapons beyond just pathing. That's ok though since he's the melee class. @@bockcui5740

    By the way, as of writing this the Revolver's Hand Cannon blessing applies its rending bonus on crit to your melee weapon as well. It might help with funny-one-bonk builds!

      Correct. I think my DCA build is just flat worse except in getting slightly more meme damage. Its not worth the costs compared to the first build which is very usable. @@ttvpawnobalken3262

    I really wanted them to just make the ironhelm have the coghammer moveset, lights for horde, and heavies are all overheads, but maybe that would be too strong in this game with the special? lol, maybe if they release another hammer hopefully it has the coghammer moveset

      @Silvers_7 that's probably because of the relentless attack type having generally great Unyelding damage, and they balanced the Crucis damage around the risk of wasted specials... all overhead heavies with the Ironhelm's special damage would be great fun tho...
      As it stand, the Ironhelm's H3 special does exactly the same as H1 or H2... it's not a great special option, but the normal version is superb at 1 taping most specialists and putting the hurt on shotgunners / gunners

    Well said. I have a few hundred hours on the Ironhelm and I completely agree with your opinion that the push attack follow-up change should be reverted. Even if this was done to make room for the re-branded Crusher Maul as a fast swinging tHammer knock-off, the abortive way this change was made is a witless betrayal of what was such an excellent weapon design:
    Pushblock attack->heavy follow-up (heavy 2)->repeat was a great loop not only for the wide-angle CC it offered but because you'd get that wonderful alternating right->left, left->right attack direction. This gave you the ability to continuously funnel hordes towards the center of your FoV on both flanks of a chokepoint or to dead-angle Bulwarks on-demand. In addition tHammer's relatively low cleave stats mean that you won't always be hitting every enemy in a swing. This direction swapping gave exactly what was needed to keep flak packs off of you even if you could only hit half of them at a time.
    The way Heavy 3 was inserted as the heavy follow up rather than changing the natural chain means that even if you use the Light 2 follow-up for its speed the next heavy on deck is once again Heavy 3! The weapon has lost its ability to defend itself against serious hordes and there's just no reason for it.
    There's also the lost synergy with the Skullcrusher blessing. Heavy 3 being the third attack in ANY chain starting from neutral/pushblock was perfect with Skullcrusher IV, which IMO is one of the best blessings in the game for front lining in Damnation+. Being able to strikedown snipe high value heads out of a horde taking 40% more damage from all sources was what put the weapon at the top of my list until the change. Crusher Maul can fill that role pretty handily so it's far from the end of the world for Zealots but I'd love to have my Ironhelm back. I miss having more punch on my special attacks when the situation calls for it. Here's hoping for some future love for it!

    What would you recommend for blessings on the chainsaw for a non-melee oriented vet? I saw on your build, you have rampage + shred (and a +5 crit perk to, I assume, bolster the crit potential with the shred blessing). Thanks~

      Depends for sure. If you are doing a crit range build probably the same. Otherwise I'd go rampage and savage sweep or wrath for a more mundane build. Rampage is now +power so it adds cleave on its own right but more won't hurt with horde control given vets slower swing speed.

      I think I wouldn't benefit much with applying bleeds to hordes with this build because it slaughters them so fast anyway and the special shred onetaps everything but crushers (low bleed value) and monsters...but its only +6 so its gonna take a few hits anyway. Just don't see value over the higher utility of more cleave and damage with a single sweep. @@Vulcanerd

    This might be very well known but not something I see a lot but the Ironhelm is one of the best cleave weapons I've ever seen but nobody uses the power attack to clear horses just to kill monstrosities I did a bit of testing and found out it cleaves around 4 to 5 poxwalkers killing 4 and doing half hp to the fifth. So my general mix up is Charge Heavy Charge Heavy clearing hordes a bit more efficiently than just with the Heavy Heavy Push Heavy Heavy.

    Sprinting defaults your heavy attack to heavy 1, so you can sprint after heavy 2 to reset your combo

      Sprint canceling is certainly an option. Fortunately they reset the combo to previous so I am satisfied to just run it through without any shenanigans.

      Yes, by heavy 3 I mean the third attack in the heavy attacks chain. I actually have a video tutorial about the ironhelm. Its a bit old do the editing is worse but it explains the swing patterns for you.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Basically, my direct comparison to how i play crucis is how i played 2-h hammer in vermintide. Heavy attack spam is your main clear, but push allows you get some quick control+slight damage in, and you can weave a push attack between movement faster then starting a heavy and using it. Its just, an extra attack that actually does something now, before you had basically no reason to use push attack outside of weaving it between lights which are now also better on crucis since as far as i remember they changed damage profile for the better. Example - im swinging around the horde, getting a bit cornered, i can now push one side and push attack the other or just push attack same side and dodge after, applying better stagger then just push. Its great extra control tool that i used constantly in vermin, that is now on that hammer.

    Love your videos man, the structure is perfect. I just made a new Zealot and hit 30 so I'm gonna hope to be able to create on of your builds. Wish you streamed because you seem so knowledgeable, if you ever thought of dabbling there. I just saw a similar build from RealAsianRobot, any thoughts on the differences he has in his build compared to yours? Wondering if I should save my mats before commiting. Also how can someone a bit new to the game find what the best modifier rolls are for each weapon?

      Ok, I watched the video except the demo since I understand the concept. Its fine, it will survive damnation or auric. Its not great however. In fact its kinda disjointed and lacks complementary picks.
      I have no objection to pairing the kantrael shotgun with either thunder hammer. And I obviously have no issue with martyrdom builds. But a hammer w/ martyrdom without Fury or Shroudfield is a silly build. This build makes way more sense with a Indignatus Crusher, its probably the only melee I think matches the goal of this build. The hammer is a weapon designed for minmaxing. Using it as a middling bonk stick that doesn't hit big oneshots and doesn't pack surprise wallops on Monstrosities just doesn't really justify bringing it. Without regen on crit or backstab you won't be getting an enormous amount of Chorus either. Its a powerful ability, so most people who run it select for crit cool down reduction and run a weapon that can proc it. Without that I can't see a use to this build beyond just running the crusher. But again, it's fine.
      Oh, and his hammer advice is partially incorrect. You only need like 52 defense (from memory) to ensure 3 dodges. So it really is the dump stat. Crowd control is key since it controls swing speed. But you do need all the stats to be good

      Ultimately its because there's nothing worse than a 3 stack thrust heavy swing on Crucis flying at an incoming Crusher overhead getting caught on a 200hp groaner that crawled out from between the crusher's legs and ate your entire attack.

    Has the Ironhelm been reverted or changed further (no idea how it was before)? Because when I test it the push attack leads to Heavy 2 (relentless). While "push only" leads to Heavy 3 (strikedown), which I didn't even know was possible in this game.

      Its good, but the hammers aren't good right now. They are too weak and have no valuable role in the game outside of monstrous specialists missions. The MK12 chaxe can 1tap a crusher but an Ironhelm and Crucis cannot.

      I agree. But they did add a 20% ranged damage node right at the top of his purity tree and its basically designed for the flamer. Take it 100% of the time you run flamer and feel the rightous fury.

    I'm struggling to find a ranged weapon on my zealot that I enjoy using. I haven't tried the infantry autoguns yet though. How do you find they work combined with a hammer or eviscerator?

      They aren't bad at all. I haven't tried the Agripinaa Mk1 since patch 14 on zealot. Only on vet, not sure if it will be good on zealot. But I have used the columnus. It's a very fun but somewhat ammo hungry gun. I think pairing it with THammer works well enough. Helps gapfill dense hordes and can blast trappers and other maniacs reasonably well with +maniac. Micro-Eviscerator has great horde clear so I'd recommend something with a bit of range. If you want best in class choose the revolver. If you want fun and stylish but still strong I propose laspistol. For good but rifle-ey try Vraks Mk7 headhunter.

      @Reginald-sc9tk thanks for the suggestions!!! I really like the headhunter on my vet, so perhaps I'll give that a go on my zealot. I've been using the agripena braced autogun, agripena shotgun, flamer, shedder autopistol and the bolter. All feel alright, but still don't click with me. What stats on the revolver do you need to hit the right breakpoints on specials and manics. I know surgical and hand cannon are the recommended blessings for it. But I don't know perks or stats to aim for.

      Stats for evolver - everything except ammo and mobility need to be great. Ammo is obviously more important than mobility but don't do like 30% on either. Perks? Last I checked maniac and flak were good choices. @@loganmulroney

    Hey .. does the +damages stack on your weapons? For example, if you have 25% damage maniacs on your sword and +25% damage to maniacs on your shotgun, does that mean your damage is increased by 50% over all to that type or does it only affect that weapon?

      Very true on both accounts. My testing seems like I can get about 35~% on a single hit. Definitely not half with the ironhelm. Still good though.

    Yeah I hate the push attack heavy follow up change. Completely ruined my muscle memory. And it's not like I ever took the ironhelm because I wanted to actually use the overhead to do more damage. If I wanted more damage I would take the crucis. I took it because I hated getting cucked by poxwalkers in mixed hordes. Now push attacking feels less fluid in general to do.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk If anything, Crucis should have gotten this change instead. It already struggles with dealing with elites in mixed hordes. Why not give it an easy access heavy overhead for an easier time sniping priority targets? Ironhelm would still have its niche since the cleaving heavies are way safer because they stagger everything up until the hard target.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Tbh I just came back after a LONG hiatus so there could be changes I don't know about. Magazine size isn't great, but I always offset that with reload perk and blessing. Draw time definitely sucks, but for its purpose you'll see your targets coming in plenty of time. The range is longer than it seems and with high cloud radius it's almost nutty. The biggest drawback on the flamer really is the lack of sniping capacity so you DO have to rely on at least one teammate handling long range threats. I used to change out on the mission ready screen if I saw another flamer or lack of dedicated ranged. The left click puff of flame is underused by most people too. It is GREAT at chain staggering from pretty far away and can buy you a lot of time in a pinch.
      I need to take a better look at the new talent trees as I don't know if there is a replacement for what I considered a required talent for flamer and that is not getting interrupted by damage.
      Truth be told though, other than this particular setup the flamer is completely redundant because of zealot melee weapon choices.

      I think flamer still has a role paired with Hammer. I just prefer the shotgun for the above reasons. The talents you want are still there. I strongly recommend you check out my first Whirring Death video. My second build uses flamer and takes the throwing knives talent node. Completely removes the biggest weakness of the flamer.@@thenson1Halo

      Just hold/tap sprint and it resets it back to heavy 1, so h1, h2, then back to h1, h2 , you can make it like the crucis hamnmer,

    I saw JFJs darktide for dummies and he says martyrdom is not good. How do you effectively use it?

      Martyrdom is not good for rookies* is how i would correct that statement. I'm not saying its great, its probably the worst keystone. But it has some advantages. Generally I would advise against sitting at low stacks constantly. Use medicae where available. Allow yourself to take damage organically and derive average benefit from sitting at like 2-3 stacks. If you know a boss is coming up you can use fire barrels and bomber fire to regulate your stacks yourself.
      The rest is down to understanding that darktide is about avoiding damage, not tanking damage. Toughness gating is key, understanding when and how you can take a hit and when you absolutely can't, is key. Until death gives you down protection as well. When you are taking an average of 600 or less damage per game you can run martyrdom and not really worry about going down.

      There are plenty of effects that can do that, however in my case its because normally I record for youtue in 2560x1440 but sometimes I forget to reset my resolution settings and record in my full monitor resolution of 3440x1440 and it autofits by scaling down so I get the letterbox bars.
      Unless I have misunderstood you, if there's another effect you meant just send me the timestamp and I'm happy to share.

    For the Ironhelm, I would like to remind people that block canceling exists. Heavy 1, heavy 2, block cancel, heavy 1. It should be faster than H1-H2-H3 on repeat.

      Point taken. Imo Block canceling is tech, so if its required to use a weapon then the weapon is bad. The combos should be good enough with the default combos. It was until this stupid and pointless change.

    As a vermintide vet, I love the Crucis and just don't get the Ironhelm, I don't like the attack patterns. With the Crucis you have to separate the wheat from the chaff before going for the bonk, I like that challenge!

    the Ironhelm's activated has about 20% less juice than the Crucis', if you're going martyrdom with a hammer, why not fully embrace the jank and go for the monosmesh delete ? It was achievable pre-nerf with the Ironhelm, but there's no way to reach 40k+ dmg outside of a Crucis since patch #14
    Don't get me wrong, I love the concept, but your build kinda look like half a gimmick slapped on an old build. I'm not sure the Ironhelm's flexibility is worth the drop in smesh power.

      Build 1 didn't hit any special breakpoints with crucis that I didn't already hit with the Ironhelm and I prefer the cleave on special reliability for the ironhelm. Build 2 might have seen some advantage but I am too materials poor trying to feed two zealots to build one. I mention this in my discussion on the DCA build.

      It does require a bit of effort to get online against Pogryns, and I'd rather trade the improvement to martyrdom for some backstab CDR, but it works. I find it has it's uses in assasination missions, just to skip the shield phases after the first.
      Build #1 probably has the smoother experience overall, but Build #2 would probably fall a bit short without desperation... I wouldn't rely on Rising conviction, Slaughter or Headtaker stacks in order to reach the harder breakpoints because while going for a "clean" backstab, I keep dropping those kind of stacks.

      Yes: scoreboard and scoreboard damage. Or the new scoreboard. Creature spawner. Other than that its all preference but without these two I couldn't test anything.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk I redid everything and noticed you have to follow the tutorials to a T because you need to deploy modloader first. Also one of the mods was out of date, Once I fixed these problems the game loaded up with all the mods.

    On the Zealot side you pretty much perfectly out out all of my opinions on the Ironhelm in general. 👍
    On vet if you're sticking to melee I would recommend one of the shotguns. The Columnus feels great on vet but you really need to build for it. Personally I really felt the difference when I wasn't using the new and improved Executioner's Stance to rip enemies apart.

      I found on zealot that its a light downgrade to lawbringer. Low stagger on specials but good ttk. Good horde clear. Ok range for shooters. Ammo hungry.

    Okay, now this thunderhammer is close to being as it should be. Thunderhammer is a weapon you bring when you need to bring down an work deff dread, chaos spawn, ogryns, beasts of nugle should be no issue at all.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk I wouldn't know. I dropped playing around 8th. Then Guiliman finally got some useful apothecaries and stuff got weird.
      The point is that thunderhammer is a weapon designed to fight extremely tough things. Terminators, dreadnoughts, tanks. It should blow apart things made from flesh.
      I also disagree with how plasmagun is portrayed. It should've been a rocket launcher style weapon, with low ammo and exceedingly high damage in a radius.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Autonguns are way too good compared to lasguns too. Especially Accatrans. Accatran 4D is basically a multilaser in your hands but shredder pistol outperforms it. Lasguns should be Veteran's class weapons and be better than autoguns available to everyone except ogryns.

    The Crucis is the best hammer if you have 6 stacks of martyrdom with a Crucis hammer you one shot a plague Ogryn

      The crucis suffers from having no cleave on special making it unreliable for elites and elite packs. This makes it less pleasant to use over the newly destroyed slaghelm. While it is more powerful it frequently wastes that power on intervening horde enemies. Which is better is largely down to preference.

    Question with all the criticisms of Ironhelm which is fair why wouldn't you just use Crucis wouldn't that just be better for the build? Personally i rather your bonk stick build its far more fun if you ask

      I HATE having my big charged up Thrust 3 power hammer attacks hit 1 (one) poxwalker instead of that actually dangerous Crusher because it was hiding in the back right corner of my screen. Ironhelm never has this problem. I generally favor reliability over amazing damage spikes. But the build will work for either.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk At this point I probably do more special attacks with the Iron Helm than I ever have. I don't see a reason to not use a special even into hordes on the off chance that it might catch somebody and if it doesn't catch somebody it seems to just spread the damage that the special attack would do to a single target to multiple targets and eviscerate them.I pretty much treat my Iron Helm as if I'm a specialist and Elite Killer only and Horde Clear is something that I do reluctantly. I'll switch to a ranged weapon to do horde clear rather than try to do it with the Iron Helm. I'm wondering if the change to the follow up overhead heavy is supposed to allow you to do some kind of special block cancel into the overhead heavy. Kind of the way that you do with the mark six power sword but I'm probably wrong.
