There is a large percentage of brokers that do not pass on the fuel surcharge that the shippers are paying for the carrier.

@@Gill22 The kinda THE point. It's theft. This is HUGE.
Also, the trucking community are intrinsically distracted from reality by the impressive enormity of big beautiful powerful trucks and enjoying beautiful travel. So we say or do very little to protect ourselves and careers.
If we were pulling loads with Toyota Pruises, Lol, we'd be bored, park, and find time to fight for our rights.
For example; When millions of workers were picking fruit, it was easy to organize and form a Union. Easy, stop picking apples and organize. But to stop driving the Pete or KW?...not happening anytime soon. Got people to impress with the unmuffled Jake brake, lol!
My biggest disappointment overall is the fact that I believe the problem is watered down terribly. I'm sure this is not a transparency issue, but a contract Law violation. Furthermore, blacklisting drivers from their livelihood isn't simply mean, but retaliation for exercising your civil/workers rights!! I think we need more attorneys on this and less engine braking foolishness. You have families to support for crying out loud!!

    • @williamrobinson6680

A fuel surcharge is just a business idea to itemize what you're getting from the rate. The rate is what matters not a fuel surcharge That's just a component of the rate. What companies have done is try to make it harder and harder to understand what you're making. You can also express a rate by the mile into a rate by the hour for on and off duty services that you do for the customer. The way business is done only benefits those that give the business out.

I used to work as a shipper dispatcher, but now I’m a truck driver. I’ve seen firsthand how brokers exploit carriers. For example, if there’s a delay of over two hours, we pay $150 per hour. If the delay extends to the next day, we pay the broker double. For a 200-mile load, I would pay the broker $900, but they would sell it to the carrier for $550 or $600. It’s clear that brokers are squeezing carriers unfairly.

Carriers that do cheap load either are not going to last long or will have no money to fix their truck when required.

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

I agree but the difference is, the carriers that book "cheap freight" will eventually have to shutdown their company and leave the market. On the other hand, brokers taking massive cuts and engaging in predatory practices will only make them richer and grow bigger. That's why I think the broker issue is more important to talk about.

The problem is people want deregulation, no rules, the Wile West like the old days, and in the next breath they are complaining that the govt isnt stepping in and doing anything! They want Capitalism and the "free market" and then when something doesnt go their way, they are upset at the govt for "not doing something!" This is how a Capitalistic society works guys. People are allowed to charge anything they like. It's up to you to judge what theyre offering and accept or deny it. If you want the govt to step in and regulate what brokers can charge, dont be offended when brokers unite and regulate how much TRUCKERS can make! See how that works??

I am subscribed here as I find it interesting to understand how it works in the US. I work as a freight forwarder in France but I always strive to offer to the customers & carriers what they need.
to the carriers: I ask them what price they can offer on this type of transport and I do my best to remain within that range, I do not like to lower their price
to the customers: I try to find the best solution at the budget they have. If they found cheaper with someone else, so be it.
Margin : most of the type 5-15% but overall the transports here are from 100 - 1000€ and for transports of more than 2000-3000 or even 4000€, the margin is usually from 2-8%.
I wouldn't mind if a carrier contacts directly the customer, they can. However most of the demands here are spot based so not always interesting for the carriers. It can depend on the situation.
Looking forward for the next videos!

Get rid of the waver and put a 10% cap on the shit and add in an automatic hold time pay for anything over 1 hour!! 3 things that would make trucking exponentially better!!!! Cause if the brokers still want to make that grand off the load their asses will make the loads worth it for the driver’s!!! I get paid if I have to sit more then 45 minutes at shipping or receiving but I don’t work with brokers either so there’s that. But that’s what my boss does so we don’t get screwed around as much. But our work is also a lot more limited.

Personally, I hope it all goes belly up and then they start fresh from scratch and no more B.S.! SCREW the mega corporates, and make it all driver run! I can say that freely now that I am retired!!! I would rather the entire industry completely implode and shut the heck down! Then when the aftershocks are felt worldwide, THEN go back and rebuild the entire thing from the ground up! I really do feel that the way it is now, its LOST! They have utterly destroyed the transportation industry with how things are now and as a whole, it will only be a matter of time before it all implodes. Pretty much. I hope it does so that we can all start over fresh from scratch.

Why use a broker if you’re a shipper? I understand if you’re a carrier, but in today’s age of technology it’s far too easy to connect shippers with services. It’s like paying Door Dash to deliver a pizza from dominos. Just call Dominos. Cut out the leaching middleman saving you money while simultaneously paying the company doing the actual work more than they would make otherwise. I can appreciate the curation provided by brokers to carriers, but the commission needs a hard cap. Brokerage is meant to help facilitate logistics not suck the trucking industry dry.

In the end I think you’ll see a lot less small carriers starting or continuing business. When they eventually increase the insurance minimums that’ll put the vast majority of small carriers out of business. Even without the minimums increasing, just year to year premium increases are too much to bear for a lot of small companies.

@ You realize you aren’t thinking like a business. You sign the contract, you agree to the rate. You only can blame yourself. Go put in the work to get the direct customers. The rule of full disclosure has always been a law. You can request the info anytime after hauling the load.
What will happen is you will be required to show full transparency of your profit. The shipper will see your numbers and start offering less money. It’s a race to the bottom. Businesses need to learn how to negotiate. If you can’t, go back to driving for businesses that can.
This is business. Everyone doesn’t get a trophy. No one is guaranteed to succeed.
The sooner these guys that can’t operate a profitable business are gone the sooner the ones that can will drive rates up.
It’s the low hanging fruit, hanging on, that’s driving rates into the ground.

@@SMD-i3v I am a carrier. I have to follow those rules as well. I can see rules for safety of us and the public. I also do not want the government restricting or regulating us to death as carriers. If it’s an open and free market we have way more options to conduct business. Carriers have an advantage they just don’t feel like they do. Brokers are our customers. If you can get direct shippers they are your customers. Fact is brokers are wanted by most shippers so they have one point of contact to deal with. Learn to negotiate with brokers. I’ve had one of my best years this year.
Load boards are bottom of the barrel freight. Cultivate relationships with brokers and shippers. Do the hard work of running the business. Almost anyone can drive. Act like a businessman not a driver. You’ll be surprised at the results.

Being blessed to living a good long life, I have also learned many sad unwritten facts of life. One being "conspiracy theory or thinking". Conspiracy theory belief is very misunderstood. We often confuse "hyperbolic, paranoid thinking" with actual conspiracy thinking. No, conspiracies are what makes the world go round. And we must take very little in life for face value. This is a fact of life.

Like why fight to see it only so you can get pissed off and be mad that you're getting ripped off. In my opinion I would stick it to these companies and not haul for them. Get into another career. It's always going to be like this until people decide to stand up one day.

Actually, its more about turning the industry over to a third world workforce. Sure brokers should be regulated in the amount of rape on the rates, so there is that. Billions in costs spread out across the Country right down to the consumers not commensurate of the services they preform. Regulation is needed. Over saturate the amount of trucks, and fill those seats with a third world workforce, and you got where we are at. Rates staying low regardless of any economy swings. 30yrs out here and my EYES prove this, its no opinion.

Broker = micro managing, broker is the variable in the equation that cant be figured out. Trucker is the low man , brokers need to limit fee to 8percent maximum. Or get rid of all brokers and let shippers contact carriers themselves . Cut the middleman out and the govt overeach out of the pocket of truckers.

5:13 You seriously didn't even mention Landstar!! Seriously
6:09 Where are you booking broker freight without 1,000,000 in insurance, probably adding an additional insured??
7:15 Where are you getting that number?? From the internet??
9:08 Yet another cry about how much someone else is making, rather than not waiting on freight that makes you money, You realize once you regulate / force your way into their business, it's just a matter of time until someone is doing the same with YOUR business, and telling YOU how much is FAIR for you to earn!!
10:20 Seriously, how long have you been using computers, no lost documents, LoL
10:40 So why exactly do you think you have that "Right", do you get to examine the restaurants books when you go out for dinner?? Are YOU going to open YOUR books for the shipper to look at??
11:05 Let the brokers requiring that, "FAX" the freight from one place to another, You do realize brokers need YOU more than You need THEM, Right!! When push comes to shove the guy with a truck will move more freight than a guy with a fax machine.
    12:48 TRUTH!!!

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

That analogy doesn’t make any sense because trucking and restaurants operate completely differently. In the trucking industry, 49 CFR § 371.3 actually gives truckers the legal right to see how much brokers are making from shippers. Why? Because truckers aren’t just customers-they’re service providers directly generating the revenue brokers collect. When you haul a load, you’re entitled to know how the money is being split, especially in a federally regulated industry where transparency is required to prevent abuse. Asking for broker transparency is about fairness, not curiosity. You wouldn’t compare that to asking a restaurant owner for their books because diners aren’t part of the restaurant’s supply chain-they just pay a set price and leave. Apples and oranges.
