@Suchin I came across your channel today. It’s great to finally see a host who has carried out his research, can ask intelligent questions, can hold his own and let’s the guest speak rather than sharing his own life experiences (as if anybody cares about them). Keep it going.
@@suchinmehrotra suchin your interviews are a DELIGHT! Learning so much from you and very happy to see how passionate you are about the craft, keep going, more success to you!
Hey Suchin! You're doing a great job! Thanks for having these conversations! I had a request. If a screenwriter wants to pitch their bible to a producer like Siddharth, how can they reach out to them what kind of prep should a screenwriter be armed with in order to make the pitch? Could you ask a question like this to the producers/studio heads you're interviewing? It'll be a great help to aspiring screenwriters, since most of us aren't aware of the nitty-gritties of it. Thanks :)
ARK productions has an email on their website. Contact them once, asking for the pitching norms and they'll revert back to you with an automated message stating how their process functions. Then send your stuff to them but only after registering it with the SWA.
For wider exhibition you need good, rooted & relatable content which resonates with the masses. Today's content esp from the bollywood ecosystem is not just subpar, it is the opposite of it, except few of course which ironically are some of the most successful too. Taking the template & ideologies from the west & giving it an Indian flavour is not going to cut it. Whoever has their finger on the pulse of the larger audience will win, accept it.
I was looking for this kind of comment! Sid's always eloquent but too guarded so I never learn anything new. In contrast, Raj and DK were way more willing to share their thoughts.
The major reason why Hindi industry in doing worst than ever and why South is shining like anything is this very interview. Producers are not honest enough to accept the fact that they themselves are controlling what to be made and what not to be. Name one single production house in Bollywood who are going beyond Mumbai to look out for talents and stories and allowing filmmakers, writers from other states to make their original stuff. The shows that these OTTs are approving are uninteresting, extremely boring and have nothing new to offer. Producers like Sid Roy Kapur or Ronnie Screwala made their careers out of those "small films", its only when they tasted money they all went on the "greed" mode and now they completely disregard those "small films" saying that it didn't do well in theaters during those years so why should we back them? You can back them, it is probably the best time to back original stories, low budget films, because of the access of theatrical window and OTT all at once. It is sad that these guys have become typical corporate houses, if they were passionate about films just like when they backed films like Udaan, Hindi industry could have been thriving with lots of new talents. That's one of the reason why Hindi industry failed to create more Kashyaps. PS- Also, thank you for these interviews and asking these people the tough questions. I am glad that atleast we have access to what they are thinking as an industry collectively.
But Sid Roy Kapur is continuing porducing small films na? Pippa, Tumse Na Ho Payega, even Sky Is Pink wasn't that big, it just had a big star (PCJ). Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan is also small compared to big tentpoles. And he also backed Rocket Boys, one of the finest OTT shows. I don't think he is being greedy or hypocritical at all, I think he is walking his talk very much. Also, South Indian market is very different. Number of seats sold per movie is quite high because more people watch movies more number of times. One thing is, Hindi creators need to create more rooted, authentic stories, and that is something even he mentioned.
How dare you compare Suchin to that dummy who thinks sitting cross legged and asking Anurag Kashyap if he watches porn makes for a great conversation ?
He’s so articulate.
Such a well-spoken man!

I'm a middle class Indian. I don't subscribe to any platform. Just watch TH-cam.

Hey Suchin...As usual good podcast.....Subscribed as well.
Liked the interview, insightful QA, @Suchin - I had to check whether the playback speed was 2x. Take your time, speak a bit slowly, don't rush it.

Please add a timestamp. In the meantime, I don't like to hear him speak in a politically correct way.
Typical corporate man

I agree with you on almost everything except you setting Kashyap as a benchmark.
