Yamaha R15 V3 Upside Down Suspension (USD Forks) In India: Full Installation And Buying Details

Back in late 2017, when the first test mule of the Yamaha R15 V3 was spotted in India with the conventional telescopic front forks, the first thought in my mind was: "They messed it up, again".
India always gets the third world treatment - budget, stripped down version of motorcycles, cars, with inflated pricing to match.
And so, when I bought this motorcycle in April 2018, I knew one thing for sure - sooner or later, I am bringing up my bike to the international specification.
In September that year, I went to Thailand to get the upside down forks for this bike, but the guy there could not deliver.
I then ended up buying a used set of upside down forks (taken off a brand new bike) in February 2019 in Indonesia, thanks to a friend there who decided to hold on to them for me, till I come and pick them up. Cost: Rs 27,000.

But only buy from here if you can get them delivered somewhere in Indonesia. This is a Indonesia only ecommerce website and I don't think there is an option to get it shipped to India.
So, what now? How can you get the Yamaha R15 V3 upside down forks to India?
Very recently, I was told about a seller in Indonesia (from a person who follows my build on Instagram) who can ship to India the entire front fork assembly that you would need to carry out the front end suspension swap, and for a cost that works out much more reasonable than my method.
This guy - Suprapt - will ship to you the 37mm upside down forks, clip on handlebars, front fender, front axle for Rs 30,405 total. (Forks Rs 26,000, Fender Rs 1,031, Axle free, Shipping Rs 3,374)
Obviously, you will have to pay customs duty once this parcel lands in India.

I just wanted to share the way that I think is the easiest right now to source upside down forks for the Yamaha R15 V3 and the MT15.
Anyway, coming back to my bike and my build.
If you have seen the video, you would have figured out the forks swap is a straight-forward job. I won't write down how I did it, but will list out the additional items I have shown you.
First, the custom upper yoke from Ali Express: a.aliexpress.c...
Four-pot Adelin front brake caliper: a.aliexpress.c...
I don't have a link for the mount for the front brake caliper if you want to use the Adelin one. I bought mine offline in Thailand.
The 300mm front rotor I will be running is unavailable now on Ali Express so not sharing the link to it.
And there you have it. Upside down front forks on the Yamaha R15 V3 installed in India.
I hope this video and this write-up will prove to be helpful to some.

I think the best thing about r15 is it's delta box frame and cast swingarm.
The bike is light and with great steering geometry.
I have r15 v3 but i can't afford this expensive modification..😢😰

So if someone wants to install the front usd forks then he indirectly have to buy all the parts which sits on the usd forks except the axle and the rim.. which means bahot saara kharcha... Damn thats expensive af... Enjoying the build so much... Probably no one have done this in India 👍👍👍

What will be the torque of your bike after all upgrade?
And can u please tell me how to improve torque of bike ?
I am not sure what the torque will be. Neither am I sure of how to increase it substantially except playing with gearing and changing where you feel the torque in the rev range.

i was thinking of swapping my front forks too. i have the black standard forks. after watching your video and realising all the necessary parts that are needed for the swap to be successful... like brake calipers and discs and brackets and the triple clamps and handles and wires etc... I WONT BE SWAPPING ANYMORE.

Why didn't you just buy the whole bike(importing the international one) instead of changing most of the parts to international version... Just curious, is it because of cost of importing or just wanted to have fun rebuilding a beast?

Yes. These are stiffer.
What I'm thinking is it will be more convenient to built r3 over I was thinking for rr310 before. As there are not as such aftermarket parts available to boost up the performance. What you say Abhinav?
R3 has a lot of support if someone wants to build it. My friend has done that.

Nice video, just a suggestion, I think the clipons will be better if they are installed below the triple clamp for better handling.
Hi. The clip ons have been placed below the top triple. The Indian model has them above it though. Since was shooting in real time, didn't bother installing the clip ons in this video otherwise would have had to deattach all the handlebar cables.

@@cranky1812 not yet. Instead of rearsets, I might get peg placement adjusting plates. They would make the pegs rearset.

From my experience and opinions I rather suggest to use OEM triple clamp or trusted aftermarket part. If you didn't like the black colour you can just paint or sticker them. And for the brake caliper I suggest you to use nissin brake caliper or Brembo. They worth the money for a long term and performance instead for street or track ride.
Let's see. I may swap them if i'm not satisfied.
@@abhinavbhatt or tokico for the caliper, if you doesn't satisfied with the brake master you can change them with r25/r3 master brake way cheaper to make the brake feel good and less bias when long term use (street or track) combined with good brake pad,brake lines and brake oil. I assured you will love the brake response and performance

For the international model the coupons are placed below the alloy plate of the handle bar where as for Indian model the clip ons are placed above the plate. Where did you placed the clip ons ????

Do you torque anything to their specifications or just tighten it all the way without caring for stripping the threads?
Whatever torque specs are available we use them. Others we just tighten but not crazily.

You can buy the USD suspension from Bangladesh, cause Indonesian R15 is available in our country. So it would be less costly.

Stock r15 cost should be 1.5lacs around and this monster turned out to be the most expensive r15 with that cost we can buy ninja 300 or ktm rc 390 as an r15 proud owner and lover I love the way u respecting r15 and I respect you bro
Steering damper isn't a necessity on a 150cc bike (to be precise 183cc). Don't get me wrong but damper is a thing for the 600/1000cc segment. Anyways keep up the good work! 💯

These are non-ABS forks. ABS forks available too in Indonesia.

Well the company recommended grade for the fork oil on the r15 V2 is Sae 10w
And will there be any issues if changed to motul sae 20w?
