- City of Tacloban is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. The city is autonomous from the province of Leyte, although it serves as its provincial capital. According to the 2020 census, Tacloban has a population of 251,881, making it the most populous city in the Eastern Visayas. The city is located 360 miles (580 km) southeast of Manila.
Tacloban City was briefly the capital of the Philippines under the Commonwealth Government, from October 20, 1944, to February 27, 1945. In an extensive survey conducted by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center and released in July 2010, Tacloban City ranks as the fifth most competitive city in the Philippines, and second in the emerging cities category.On November 8, 2013, the city was largely destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan, having previously suffered similar destruction and loss of life in 1897 and 1912. On January 17, 2015, Pope Francis visited Tacloban during his Papal Visit to the Philippines and held a mass at Barangay San Jose, and later he led mass of 30,000 people in front of the airport.

Ang kalat, at daming basura ang Tacloban City. Two months ago, napa da-an kami ng Tacloban, papontang Cebu, ang dilim ng Tacloban City. Makalat ang basura. Yung mga sasakyan sa downtown, dapat bawal mag park. Kawawa ang Tacloban City, wala sa ayos. Yung mga da-an, ang golo. Urban Planners ay dapat ni hire nila to help Tacloban city. Kolang sa diskarte ang LGU. hope it change.

Mahina ngaun ang development ng Tacloban city wala mga malalaking infras projects ang downtown ganon parin medyo naunahan na sa ormoc city.
Hindi mo dyan makikita ang improvement ng Tacloban, kasi sa North areas at South areas ang development ng Tacloban, tulad ng evrmc at ibang new bldgs sa North & South, kahit ang 2 Robinsons wala dyan, nasa North at South lang at iba pang bldgs. Ginawa yan ng government para maganit ang ibang area sa Tacloban City.

Iloilo started to pick up around the early 2000s. Tacloban just started to boom after Typhoon Yolanda starting since 2014.

From all the videos I saw of cities in the Visayas, Tacloban is way far behind compared to Cebu and Iloilo when it comes to infrastructures. I am a bit disappointed having been born and grown up there until high school.
Infrastructure in Tacloban was completely destroyed in 2013 by typhoon Haiyan. 90% of houses in Tacloban were destroyed in 2013. So it is rebuild day by day nonstop since past 10 years. Thats why You should not be dissapointed.
