Nu metal became a genre when new bands came in and the metal world didn't know what genre they belong to, during the 90's the NU metal genre became the "extra misc" bin

It all depends on what you're into, I myself like nu metal, System of A Down, and Slipknot are two of my favorites of that genre :) but I also listen to Metallica and other metal/heavy metal, and rock/ classic rock
