Lynn Shackleford had the best-looking corner jump shot ever. A thing of beauty and a joy forever.

They were so good, I didn't even watch the final in '69 or '70. In '74, we knew State had a better team. They just had to believe it themselves. Norm Sloan knew it full well. David Thompson was a once in a lifetime player, and Burleson and Towe were perfect complimentary players, along with MO Rivers and Tim Stoddard. In '72 they annihilated teams, but were on probation as undefeated.

Was fun to watch all these guys from courtside at Pauley Pavilion. You knew who was going to win before the game started. Had two classes with Warren, one with Alcindor/Jabbar.
    Student ticket was 50 cents.

Mike Warren one of the all time great collegiate point guards was mostly overshadowed by
Bruin team mates Alcindor and Lucius Allen. Warren later starred in the TV Series "Hill Street Blues".

@@jerrybrownell3633 Mike was 5'11". Great guard, but he made one smart move into the entertainment business.

It is something to see Acindor/Jabbar so young and athletic.

Wooden said Bill Walton in his prime was a little better at center than Lew.

Bullshit. Define 'better'...Alcindor's teams NEVER lost an NCAA Tournament game, Walton's did. End of discussion.

@@oldschoolruler Shut up with your "end of discussion" crap. Nowhere in the definition of "better" does it mention "never lost" either.

In the Alcindor era UCLA was 88-2 and won 3 Championships. Lew was 3 time POY. In the Walton era UCLA was 88-2. Bill was 3 time POY but they lost to North Carolina State and David Thompson in the 1974 NCAA Semi-finals.

Great teams back then. Let's be real though the alumni must have been paying out a lot of money to those players nice cars and plenty of cash to go around.
