Legacy media used to be: "A thing happened. Here's the details." Then it became: "A thing happened. Here's what we think about it." And it ended up as: "A thing DIDN'T happen. Don't believe what they tell you. Don't listen to others. Only listen to us. (And subscribe/donate to us)"
And "This is what we want you to think about this thing that might have happened, or not. What's important is that you listen to us, so you don't have to think for yourself".
Legacy media always had a hand in false narratives, ever since papers. Got worse and worse over the years, of course, but it's not like "it used to be marginally better".
Well to be fair, it was always biased. But their bias was not this evident. It was more about hiding stuff from their audience to skew and distort the facts rather than force feeding them narratives like it is happening now

For me, it was the Depp v Heard trial that solidified my distrust of mainstream media. Every day of the trial, I'd watch some of the live coverage, mostly on this channel, and then I'd see articles and clips of the MSM that told a completely different story. They had already decided that Johnny was a monster and Amber was an angel. To this day, there are still people who believe Johnny was the abusive one in that relationship. Now, MSM is just there to laugh at and meme on.
For me it was Michael Brown getting shot. I saw how the media portrayed him as a gentle giant went in reality he was nothing more than the thug who robbed a convenience store and bullied a little Asian man.
The same opinion was parroted extensively in Australian media. News reports were followed up with talks about domestic violence only towards women. When Johnny got a favourable verdict the narrative changed to 'he's man with power and connections' or ignored entirely. There was 0 discussions about abusive women.
id literally watch the trial with asmon then get on youtube the next day and see completely flipped scripts of what happened. if they can do it with information that is readily available like that.. they do it to all information. they dont care. their "fact checking" is sourcing their friendly journalists that will then source the news back.
Saying Joe Rogan was too good to have Kamala on is inaccurate. He literally just said he wasn't going to cancel on his guest. He also said she already had the opportunity to come on and didn't take it.
It's kind of true, he's too good to 1) cut the conversation short 2) subject it to editing (with input/control by the guest!) and 3) travel away from his studio to a rats nest of handlers and teleprompters. And he was right to hold to those standards in my opinion.

What legacy media needs to understand is that we don't just hate your networks, we hate your anchors too. Rachel Maddow, Don Lemon, Joy Reid, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Chris Hayes. Ads for prescription drugs should be banned. Prescription drugs are not a product of choice, they are a product of necessity, which is not decided by the customer, but by a qualified doctor, on the basis of whether they fit the medical condition of the patient. That's a great idea. Now, how do we prevent another opioid epidemic, or similar? That was a result of patients directly trusting physicians to prescribe medication. Getting rid of advertising changes almost nothing if the entire medical industry is corrupt.

I met a lifelong liberal at the beach this summer, a retired engineer. The beach trip surprisingly redpilled him. Him and I talked a while and he said there were two TV's in the hotel lobby, one was on CNN and the other was Fox. He listened to both as best he could as each one discussed Trump as he spoke live. He said he could not believe how CNN seemed to misinterpret everything he said on purpose and act like it was his point all along, meanwhile Fox seems to understand his intended points and talks about that instead. He said that moment made him realize the media was pushing a devide that shouldn't exist. Brilliant man, always surprising to me how we can all get along if we just dropped our bias a bit despite all the hate you see online.
That story reminds me of something a mentor of mine used to tell me. Especially when I get too comfortable. "Men smarter than I am don't need to read as widely than I do." Both my mentor and I were not what you would call super intelligent geniuses. He trained me to read widely precisely because our intelligence afforded us no immediate solutions and by proxy I learned that if it seems like you always have a simple solution on hand for every complex problem in life, you are either super intelligent, or super arrogant. And last I checked there's only a very minor portion of humanity that can be considered more intelligent than the average bear.

I remember laughing at Trump when he started talking about fake news because literally my brain couldn’t comprehend the thought of the news spewing lies. But now after 8 years I can’t fathom any news network being honest
There are a few factors at play here. I'm in my 50's and remember being a small kid and my parents watched the local news and national evening news with respected journalists like Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather and many others and then the late-night news at 10pm before Johnny Carson or Letterman. That was it. They gave actual news on the local and national level, period, end of story, no spin, no opinions, simply the facts and let you draw your own conclusion. Along came CNN. There just wasn't enough news all day and night to keep sponsors plowing money into them, so eventually they got pundits who didn't just give facts, they gave their own spin. Then the other networks came along and did the same. Pundits and spin. Again, the same amount of news but now, besides sponsors, there's competition for viewers and sponsors. Fast forward to these networks needing to fill 24 hours and only so much news to go around so in addition to sponsors, competition and pundits, these networks started CREATING the "news" and narratives and each moved to lean towards one party or another, choosing sides. Now it's all spin, all pundits, all fabricated stories existing solely to grab and hold viewers' attention for longer. Made up headlines such as "BREAKING NEWS: Donald Trump Wears Orange Tie with White Polka-Dots. Is this a secret nod to White Supremacist groups?" ... "BREAKING NEWS: Obama waves with left hand instead of his usual right. Is this covert messaging he's sending to Muslims?" Those were actual headlines on Fox and CNN. I don't trust ANYONE or ANYTHING that has a vested financial interest in manipulating my mind or wallet. We cannot trust any mainstream media at all.
We really don't hate them enough. They pay big money for studies on how to get people spending money. So much manipulation and nothing substantial. Saccharine news. Probably actually cancerous even.. 😂 I am 45. I remember the same.
I agree with @rl9148, your bringing up Dan Rather of all people is a perfect example. Look up why he had to resign from CBS News. It's always been this bad, we just had no other sources of information on current events before the internet.
30:55 Yup. Absolutely. Even the famous Austrian painter himself believed that he was doing the right thing, he was on the right side of history, and he was a hero. Most, if not all, of history has been a conflict between a group that believed they were good and another group that believed they were good, not a conflict between a group that believed they were good and another group that believed they were evil. p.s : TH-cam censors just deleted my comment above and said they would sanction my account if I continue with my "hate speech". So instead of writing the name of the person whose name I can't say, I had to write that famous Austrian painter. What a joke!
Very true. The risk of portraying these people as monsters (though what they did was surely monstrous) is that people later tell themselves that they aren't monsters and therefore the monstrous thing they are doing must be fine. It's the danger of self-reinforcing echo chambers and an inability to objectively analyze actions.

29:40 ACLU was ideologically captured pre 2016. They threatened to sue my public high school for leading a prayer before the kickoff of every football game before my sister’s senior year in 2015. The students decided to start leading it, and so it stuck around. As far as I know, the student section still leads it every home game.
of course, this is why they hated the internet in the beggining: it wasn't under their control, but as long as they advanced, they started to see "good" and "evil", just like in old comunication media
Its like a King finally came out of his castle and just now realized everyone in his kingdom packed up and left years ago. Sure... He is still king, but of what?
Yeah. Her going on Rogan would expose her the same way the debate exposed Biden. She did fine in the debate because she was coached on the talking points, but Joe would ask her things off script and she would flounder.
Nah, Rogan is one of the most softball interviewers possible. He's about as confrontational as Hot Ones, literally just getting them to talk about themselves and open up as a person. She wouldn't be able to get as far in her career as she has if she couldn't manage a 2-3hr casual conversation.
I think they just thought it wasn't worth the risk and would be more beneficial to just have her do the usual campaign things she did. I think if they weren't as out of touch they'd have done it. They probably didn't know anyone who watches JRE because they're all lefties so they underestimated the power it could have, and also they thought he would ask her a question like "why didnt you do anything about the border before and now you're saying you're gonna crack down on it?" And she'd have a ballistic meltdown and walk out.
The big takeaway is that people want authenticity, such as we see in Joe Rogan, and freedom, such as we see in X's policies. Legacy media have neither.
Post covid age is literally the age of radical authenticity The movement that started in 2008 on the internet has finally come to mainstream fruition. People finally got sick of pretending to be something they're not and being gaslit into doubting their own judgement.
And those freeform podcasts and other long format media (even youtube/livestreams) provide far more real estate to get to judge someone's authenticity and leanings than some 2-3 minute curated news blurb. They offer the chance to vicariously sit down with someone and get to know them a little, which is a nightmare for many politicians and other people with manufactured personas.
Yeah I think those that didn't figure it out for themselves got shown there was a better way by the young 'uns, at this point I think the only audience they really have left is the die hard "I couldn't possibly learn anything new at my age" crowd and even half of them got embarrassed into doing it by literal toddlers using phones. 🤣

A response to the comment in the video about getting the vaccine and it working. I got covid from a guy i worked with who got covid after being vaccinated. I then almost lost my job afterwards because i wouldn’t get the vaccine. Lunacy. Never again. When it is raining, make sure to look behind you to make sure the media/government aren't pissing down your back. Trust your gut instinct, if these lunatics want you to do something, the only people that benefit are them and that thing is USUALLY money (surprise surprise).
The main problem is the format. Short segments with mandated commercial breaks, and the show must end after X minutes. They need to have real conversations, not soundbite battles.
No, the main problem is that it’s a bunch of lies, gaslighting and thinly veiled propaganda with a clear agenda of polarising and dividing the nation while almost never having a truly honest take on anything. Changing the format won’t change a thing, lies and propaganda in a different format will still be utter trash.

And they want to be open about it too. Sometime ago, there was Washington post's "*Beyond Objectivity*" authored paper. "Democracy dies in darkness, so we can light it up so much that it is blinded', new quote for washington post
"It's impossible to have objective news." Didn't used to be which is the part that kills me. Walter Cronkite was strikingly objective and someone in old news was once quoted as saying "If 30 years down the line someone can tell your leanings from a newscast, you've failed as a reporter." I'm not saying you're wrong but I am sad that you're right.
The Society of Professional Journalists removed objectivity from its code of ethics in 1996. _The Northeastern University Political Review_ defended this change: '“Objectivity” hinders reporters from building trusting relationships with their sources, resulting in poor reporting that lacks emotion. News outlets should abandon “objective” journalism and adopt social journalism so that reporters can have transparent conversations with their sources and, in turn, tell their stories representatively and accurately. This reform is especially crucial for people of color, as “objective” practices forgo their painful histories that the news should acknowledge. “Objectivity” does not make a story truthful-it hinders the pursuit of truth.' There is a plausible argument that no one can be objective, but journalists had the responsibility to get all views and demand proof. Doing so exposed the journalist to all kinds of info and should have improved their knowledge to ask more probing questions and see through the subterfuge. It also removed 'the truth', replacing it with 'truth', thus came 'my truth', which was one's own personal and slanted experience. Favoured groups would not be challenged to get to 'the truth'. The journalists' claim of 'speaking truth to power' is a sleight of hand. People who are not powerful may still be malevolent and perpetrate crimes. And given the removal of objectivity from the code of ethics, how can we be assured that journalists know what the truth is? A better mission statement would be something such as exposing abuse wherever it exists. The 24-hour news cycle impedes fact checking ... or is used as a rationalisation to not do so. Be the first to break the story is paramount. More and more pressure/activist individuals entered mainstream journalism, and they often view things from a social justice lens, i.e. a very biased/distorted one, solely. Then there's playing with numbers. 'X increased 100%!' OK. What does that mean? Did it increase from 1 to 2? Of course, one can play it the other way? For example, if I want to downplay something, for example the increase of crime, I may report 'violent assault' increased merely from 12 to 18. That's a 50% increase. I'm in favour of journalists reporting both the number and the percentage.
I want to say it was McCluhan or Adorno that said it’s impossible to get unbiased news. No matter how down the middle you report something, the choice to report or not report different things is selection bias.
Like most things in life, its on a spectrum from low to extreme. Even choosing which stories to report is a form of bias, but you can absolutely tell the difference between an outlet who tries to remain as unbiased as possible and one that basically spins everything into an opinion piece. Its not about expecting 100% objectivity, its more about having a reasonable expectation that your news source will be professional and take pains not to skew or tamper with the information they report.
No reason to pay staff to try to sabotage Trump for the next 2 years. Unless Democrats create a crisis, nothing is slowing Trump down from repairing the Republic
It's been amazing and quite amusing to see how labeling mainstream media as "Legacy Media" has gone from a fringe topic to widely accepted. Glad the "normies" have finally started to catch up 😄
I really don't understand what the issue is with Joe Rogan. If you watch the podcast it's a conversation, he's pulling them up on statements/claim they make as they go for the most part, it's not making a decision for anyone other than the viewer listening. I don't know why this would deter any political party from watching him.
Its because THEY view their viewers as brainless amoebas that are just blank canvas' to imprint propaganda on-They can't understand someone being naturally swayed by an opinion, to them sharing an opinion is NEVER hoholistic. To them all ideas are memetic weapons in a game of psychological warfare. The media exists to control people, not Inform them. They can't fathom someone is simply more entertaining/trustworthy, to them it must be a covert operation to steal their (dwindling) power and influence over the public
Multimedia communications student here. I almost got removed from a class for telling my professor that this was a dying, archaic way to be doing news and all of these arbitrary rules have been aged out. From how to sit, to what angle you face the camera, to never fully turning your head to look at your co anchor. Right? Which I find funny because when I tell folks I'm a libertarian centrist they look at me like I'm crazy. I dont want the government wasting my time and money nor anyone else's time and money. I dont want the government telling me what I can and can't do when it doesn't affect anyone else and I don't want them doing that to anyone else. We need more freedom and less nanny state
Not in a consistent or ideological sense. Libertarian and centrist are two different things. It’s estimated at most 15-20% of the population are libertarian and that depends on how you define it particularly because social liberalism includes many unlibertarian things like gun control while libertarians can be socially conservative personally.

The whole "if you get the jab you won't spread it", i remember they were being questioned in EU somewhere about that claim. They sent someone other then CEO to the lions den that had to admit "we never tested for that". They never tested that would prevent the spread but had no problem claiming it.
As I recall, the manufacturers only claimed efficacy for recipients, not that it would prevent spread. It was politicians and bureaucrats who extrapolated, claimed it would prevent spread, and then used that unproven claim to mandate it. The politicians and bureaucrats fed off each other’s unproven claims. I never saw anything from the manufacturers about preventing spread.

People don't go to Joe Rogan for him to tell them what to think. They go to Joe Rogan to form their own opinions based on long form content. It's incredible to me that the left constantly outs themselves as peasants that simply are told what to do and think. I believe they out themselves because they just assume everyone is simple and shallow like they are. I watch Rogan to see a long form conversation. Maybe some of it is scripted, maybe some of it isn't, who knows, but you can see unedited clips that are hours long of the people talking. That tells me more about the individuals than any heavily edited, heavily scripted mainstream media slop.
As an Asian woman, doesn't matter if you're black, white or whatever. If we're Americans, we're brothers and sisters and need to stop letting the powers that be continue to inflame issues between us and pit us against one another. Though the biggest issue I seem to be witnessing more often not is a steep decline in critical thinking skills, which is really what allowed the media and whatever agendas pulling at their strings to cause so much damage in such a short time. Frankly, this is why I will take a listen to Asmon here and there when come across him; regardless of what issues I have with him, he has strong critical thinking skills and it's practically a breath of fresh air.

17:38 "are you ok with a single podcast guy having power to decide for a country?" What a stupid question. Rogan doesn't have the power to decide for a country. Watching someone talk isn't deciding an election. People make up their mind after watching it. The people are deciding. No one should EVER watch someone to find out how they should feel about something. You don't let others dictate how you think. Either you think for yourself, or you are a slave. Watch the discussion and decide for yourself. Don't be a sheep.
That assumes they’re making money. Are they? Before Trump, MSNBC and CNN were both bad quarters away from oblivion. I think it has far more to do with protection of chosen narratives designed to promote the shared interests of elites.

Now, MSM is just there to laugh at and meme on.

@@tmmelendezcooahz That actually happened though?
😂😂😂😂
This needs more upvotes!
Well said, they been making up the majority of this stuff for a long time now, my entire lifetime that is for sure.
They didn't give the actual news, are you kidding? You just didn't realize how much they lied because there was no alternative.

Yep. Everyone is the good guy in their own story and a villian is just a perspective of whoever writes the story

The students decided to start leading it, and so it stuck around. As far as I know, the student section still leads it every home game.
Its funny they complain about Twitter discourse, but they were silent when it was in their favour and was under their controll.
of course, this is why they hated the internet in the beggining: it wasn't under their control, but as long as they advanced, they started to see "good" and "evil", just like in old comunication media

That's pretty apt tbh.
Legacy media is like "Mean Girls" gossiping at lunch, in the movie version.
I think they found out that emotional blackmail has a limit before people are desensitised.
Some did. Some are too stupid to understand and too old to change.
Her not going on Rogan was NOT a mistake. She would’ve fumbled the interview so hard. Honestly it would’ve just made it worse
@jlcdavenport6268 Pretty sure no one likes the real her.
If you are unable to talk for a few hours like a normal human, you're unfit to be a politician
The big takeaway is that people want authenticity, such as we see in Joe Rogan, and freedom, such as we see in X's policies. Legacy media have neither.
Post covid age is literally the age of radical authenticity
The movement that started in 2008 on the internet has finally come to mainstream fruition.
Looks like many of these media companies are about to have to update their resume
This isn't magical.. all of their ratings combined don't equal Milwaukee. Meanwhile, over 40% of America watched Rogan talk to both Trump AND Vance.

No no no no the real problem is the intention behind this as a whole. And people sense it

The only times I see mainstream media is when it's being mocked on youtube.

2:18 legacy media has gone from reporting the news, to stating their opinion of the news, to telling us what our opinion should be.
And they want to be open about it too. Sometime ago, there was Washington post's "*Beyond Objectivity*" authored paper. "Democracy dies in darkness, so we can light it up so much that it is blinded', new quote for washington post
"It's impossible to have objective news."
Didn't used to be which is the part that kills me.
Walter Cronkite was strikingly objective and someone in old news was once quoted as saying "If 30 years down the line someone can tell your leanings from a newscast, you've failed as a reporter."
I'm not saying you're wrong but I am sad that you're right.
Facts are inherently objective, but facts are usually proven scientific theories. Objective views tend not to be present in US politics.
There's also always been fake news. Don't forget yellow journalism started the Spanish American war.
“Objectivity” does not make a story truthful-it hinders the pursuit of truth.'
There is a plausible argument that no one can be objective, but journalists had the responsibility to get all views and demand proof.
And CNN is going through another round of lay-offs. It's beautiful.
i love when jurnos lose their jobs

I really don't understand what the issue is with Joe Rogan. If you watch the podcast it's a conversation, he's pulling them up on statements/claim they make as they go for the most part, it's not making a decision for anyone other than the viewer listening. I don't know why this would deter any political party from watching him.
Agreed
Its because THEY view their viewers as brainless amoebas that are just blank canvas' to imprint propaganda on-They can't understand someone being naturally swayed by an opinion, to them sharing an opinion is NEVER hoholistic. To them all ideas are memetic weapons in a game of psychological warfare. The media exists to control people, not Inform them. They can't fathom someone is simply more entertaining/trustworthy, to them it must be a covert operation to steal their (dwindling) power and influence over the public

They really don't, they think they just need to be on TH-cam etc, they still don't get that nobody wants to see them overtalking their guests they don't like or cutting them off then putting the kid gloves on for the ones they do. They still don't get nobody cares about their shallow, inauthentic misrepresentations of the facts. They are just wondering why the brainwashing doesn't work anymore.
If your neighbor was a condescending compulsive liar who tried to sell you junk you don't need every 5 minutes, would you set aside an hour each day to listen to his spiel?
Then why would someone tune in to the corporate news each day? Genuinely baffles me
I love how Asmond straight up said "don't take what influencers, including me, say at face value". It's true, and it should be self-evident, but unfortunately many people don't know or get that. He shows a lot of integrity.
We talk about how a generation laps up info from legacy media, yet a new generation is exactly the same with new media. Was watching a documentary about Alex Jones. 24% of Americans apparently didn't believe that Sandy Hook was real. Terrifying. Unless people question all media, eventually the Fox and CNN of the future will still manipulate another generation.
Yep, and it's something I respect and keep me coming back. It's like a 2/3 chance I agree with his takes to some extent or other. He also has some MAJOR L takes, but he's got his opinions on things and I got mine.
Opinions are for sale, and that is why they are called 'influencers'. Celebrity endorsements are also for sale. It's their work face and that is a brand.
Timestamp pls?
I’ve tried watching cnn, hated it, I saw a bunch of fox clips online and decided to watch it, a week later I hated it. Funnily enough right now my “favorite” news channel is from Australia
Sky news by any chance? Lmao
@@mrmoosetachioisnt sky just literally audtralian fox? owned by same guy
@matt99t73 yes and Aussies don't even know it exist lol
@@matt99t73 yes but they're more geared towards middle aged people. They post some funny clips. They have pretty good social media presence. They're biased too but have better journalists than fox. I don't like them much either but some of the clips I've seen are definitely better than fox. And they talk funny Australian speak lol ha ha
@@mrmoosetachio yup, but I’ve only watched portions of it so far, so same as when I liked fox
"Are we the baddies?"
I've watched more legacy media on Asmongold TV than I have seen in the last 20 years.
Yeah same, I stopped watching TV the moment we got high speed internet but I'm knowledgeable about tech and most people weren't back then, Netflix saw the writing on the wall pretty quickly but this lot were too self important to even realise anything was up until now. They still don't get it, they think they did some minor thing wrong and they just have to change that, but what they actually did wrong was exist in 2024.
I stopped watching TV 10 years ago. I don't regret it.
