AFRAID OF THE PHILIPPINES (Foreigners Travel Mindanao)

  • Afraid of the Philippines?
Unfortunately there are still a lot of travellers who go to Southeast Asia but avoid the Philippines because they think it is dangerous. I met Sam in Cambodia and he was told by other travellers best to avoid the Philippines... of course this gave him the impression that it was dangerous.
But after making a few posts on social media, and talking to him in person... Sam decided to come to the country! Then, he even invited a German friend to visit me in Mindanao!
Here is a few clips of their experience.
    Super Apir!

Guys, Guys, Guys! Sheez Filipinos are generally friendly. Especially Visayans. Those women smiling, looking, dancing and asking for your phone number were just flirting and joking, no need to be all stand-offish about it. If you visit Philippines with a mindset that Filipinos are always joking and horsing around because they want you to smile, then you'll be fine. If you're afraid of people, then you miss out on a huge part of the culture. And if you visit Philippines without trying to understand the culture, then you also miss out on understanding why Filipinos aren't the crankiest people on the planet given the situation. I think these guys missed out because they had preconceived ideas on how scary they Philippines is. You gotta visit the country with caution but with a fresh pair of eyes and with an open mind and heart. If you have a thick wall in your heart, you'll never truly experience what Filipino hospitality is. Too bad.

You need to communicate most Filipinos speak understand english..Filipinos are sociable ,friendly. If they wave just say hello too. Do not get uptight, filipinos in outside big cities still speak ,understand english., communicate to a filipino, ther r talkative friendly and love ur visit, At the market ,asked vendors what they r selling ur not familiar with n they will response in somewhat English u understand. U do not need to buy, but just happy to see u as visiting foreigners.remember Filipinos are the most , smiling faces u meet ,hospitable, accomodating Philippines is one safe places to visit., just ask Kyle !

Once again Kyle, just wanna say thanks again from a Washingtonian near BC to a Canadian. I am glad others are discovering Mindanao. I found what looks like a dirty look is usually, suspicious look. If you introduce yourself or shake their hands it really changes their perceptions of you. Enjoy it.

I have found that wherever I have gone in the Philippines. When you make eye contact with someone, put a big smile on your face and more often than not you'll get an equally big smile in return.

    • @BecomingFilipino
      @BecomingFilipino  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Thanks Dennis and Craig for sharing here... I know sometimes I get some negativity from other foreign nationals about Mindanao, and yes there is no denying the facts that horrible things have happened here. But after having driven a scooter all over the Southern Island for Four years I feel confident in saying that there are many areas completely traveable. It just takes a little education, and understanding.
      Thanks for your comments.

Mindanao is safe but you still need to pay attention to your surroundings. Just like anywhere there are places you should not go. If you are white you will definitely stand out so be aware of that. The only thing you really have to worry about are the pick pockets. Kulas you can have your fighter wine, i was just in davao a few weeks ago visiting my inlaws and tried it and it's not for me, I'll stick with the tuba.

Great job, Kulas!! What sceneries!! 🤩... With the two young bucks, I think it was pretty funny that they were able to roam around the market with the camera, getting a lot of attention. It seems as though they’re not used to the attention (rockstar status) they were getting. But truth of the matter is that, they are foreigners, whether they carry a vlogger’s camera or not, they will get attention. It’s because filipinos, in general, love foreigners and they love seeing foreigners being in their country and enjoying their country. The filipinos take pride in that. So for two young bucks, they’ll just have to get used to it, if ever they’ll visit the Phils. again!! Great one, Kulas!! Cheers! 🍻🎉💯

The Philippines is not dangerous. No tsunami but some part of the Philippines have tsunamis like the Pacific ocean.

I think Kulas should be given an honorary Philippine citizenship for promoting the Philippine tourism. Good job Kulas, Happy Holidays!

Really Kyle? The infamous Cogon Market for their first CDO tour? Haha. That would overwhelm anyone.

Still wishing you'll have collaboration with fellow Canadians Christian Leblanc & Bret Maverick both from BC. On their videos, they create positive impression about the Philippines and Filipinos especially unlike that nobody from Europe. Hope you connect with them during your Christmas break in BC. BTW, it started to snow here in BC, happy holidays !

Kulas well done! I'm living in CDO since 1981. I have seen a few of the Marcos martial law years, I have seen the EDSA revolution from a distance, I have lived here through 6 of 7 coup d'états, the other one getting stranded in Hong Kong. Now I live here again under martial law and having no problems at all. I have lived here with bombings and the Sendong disaster and I love not only Cagayan de Oro City and Northern Mindanao, but the whole of Mindanao. I am trying with my postings in German language a little bit to promote it and changing some minds.

one thing i like about you kulas is wala kang arte sa katawan..u dnt think of yourself as high and mighty.you're simply just the way u are...marunong mkibagay sa mga tao..one of the traits ng mga pinoy..ang mkibagay..that's why we like you..
