Great video! I love how you spoke about the pollinators as well as the asters. Many people don't realize that Goldenrod and Asters are the last source of nectar for many pollinators before winter. Both plants are very important to honey bees.

I got some that came in the soil with another tall growing plant that has purple flowers in fall. They came from a dirt pile tossed out by a landscaping company and so were a surprise. I didn't know what they were at first and tried to pull them up. They weren't coming up though so for the first year I just chopped them to the ground whenever I saw them. This year I was too lazy to bother and now they're blooming these delicate daisy-like flowers that are white with a yellow center. I didn't know and still am not sure they are asters. But they sure look like what I see here. And if they are weeds then I'll just keep them. They are at least 3 feet tall and the flowers are very small and delicate.

I love my asters... but this year, since they bloom in the late fall, I've decided to add the deep fall colors of orange, yellows, peaches and rust to bring traditional fall color to my garden beds. Thanks for posting.

I have Raydon's favorite and the one thing I did not like about it was that it flops over by the time it blooms. I just found out that you can prune it in June to keep it lower so it will not fall over. I'm going to try that this year. I divided it a couple of years ago and have three large plants now. It is really quite the display of bright blue in September going into October.

I love asters! But I live in a very hot, dry, windy zone 9b in CA & they don’t do well here ☹️. I just use mums instead so I can have a similar look. But, it’s not the same! Purple is my fave color, so of course the purple varieties are my yen 😊. You have lovely varieties that are so healthy & beautiful! Well done! Thanks for sharing your asters w/us ❤️.

so after watching your video, I decided to plant several aster purple domes- i wanted a nice boarder plant and a plant for a few containers. wow! these are amazing- they grow so well and so fast. I was worried because I planted them late in the season- Rochester, NY, Zone 6a- but they all came back! Do you have any recommendations colorful perennials for containers that overwinter well?

So do you only chop it back once in July?? And how far back, how much growth do you leave?? Mine get so floppy, I’ve pruned back 2 or 3 times with the same floppy results. I have them hooped as well, just divide one up today so now I have 3 more!

thanks for your great video! I got me some alpine asters from the home depot today (early May). Plant tag info says it grows from 12 to 30 inches and blooms late summer to fall. Not quite sure if this will really grow to 30 inches because accdg to google, alpine asters grow to 8-10 inches only? The plant I got has bicolor flowers (some purple flowers and some white from the same plant). Any advice. I love tall asters but will these ones grow to be tall? Advanced thanks for your input
