Hi Gurpreet, I really appreciate your videos, you address racist issues by educating people instead of condemnation. I’m from hk too, but have been living abroad. So I can relate and see how hk Chinese / ppl in general can say racist things without even realizing what they actually said. Please keep the videos coming, like you said we need more media representation of all sorts of hk ppl :)
Thank you so so much for making these videos! I am a Chinese Hongkonger, probably 10+ years older than you. I remember growing up near a Delia School, each morning on my way to my secondary school in another district, I'd pass by much younger non-Chinese faces and hear so many languages. I thought about them and the parallel experience even years later when I immigrated to the US where I experienced being an ethnic minority myself. As I became racially conscious in the US, I had always hoped this awareness would grow in HK also. I'm truly happy that the younger non-Chinese generation I saw then is doing great things in HK and I thank you for showing up to make your community more visible and represented! ♥

Do you think it would be nice to see the word "Chinky" used in mainstream media? 2. In this video, another point I am trying to bring is across is that non-Chinese people should be given more opportunities and not be given stereotypical roles of gangsters in the media 3. Hi I have a question, you said it’s not a good representation to use asian to portray as gangsters, first of all it’s a movie, it’s not attacking anyone one. My question is, are you saying it’s bad to use black people as slaves when they make movies on slavery? Your issue with using Asians as gangsters is totally irrelevant, the actor did a good job, got well paid and was very passionate with his role.
movies can influence more than you think, all he is saying that these movies are making the already bad situation even worse. 其實近年來在香港，已很少稱呼南亞裔人士做「阿差」的了，這可能從近年來大家對在港土生土長的南亞裔人士的認同感日漸增加有關。
不過站在文化交流和歷史文化研究的角度，這個話題是應該多講，好讓彼此加深了解。
我記得以前稱呼南亞裔人士做「阿差」的原因，除了片中所講的「差人」之外，可能還有另一個原因。以前香港人也會南亞裔人士做「摩羅差」，記得看過一本講文化掌故的書(書名忘記了)，當中有講到，十九世紀時的香港華人，分不開印度人與古時候的摩羅人的分別，故此混為一談，這個與香港中上環有一條叫摩羅街，而據說在十九世紀時，該處是印度裔人士聚居地有關。而在澳門，也有稱從印果亞葡萄牙殖民地過來的印度士兵做「摩羅兵」。
🙏🙏 衷心感謝成柏瑞，詳細解釋呢個對南亞裔族群貶義詞語‧睇完你呢條片之後，令我回想返起三件事‧
細個 (我當時好似仲係小學生) 有一次跟媽咪同親戚去山頂遊覽，喺排隊準備落巴士嗰陣 (當時坐上層)，見到個南亞裔伯伯落車，我就叫咗人哋「阿差」呢個詞語稱呼人‧我姨丈即刻提醒我：你唔好咁樣叫人，人哋鬧您㗎‧透過你嘅解釋，依家終於知道點解「阿差」係個貶稱‧
另一件事，喺我出世嘅年代 (個年代已經係上世紀末嘅年份)，同出世嘅嗰間醫院 (唔方便開名) ，原來已經有南亞裔女醫生，不過呢位南亞裔女醫生本身識講廣東話，定係講英文由姑娘翻譯，我媽咪就冇提及過‧至於成柏瑞提及過有部份南亞裔族群，從事專業人士，呢樣嘢我見過嘅‧我有次返醫院覆診，完咗之後食 Lunch，都見到有一個南亞裔醫科生‧咁而退休法官包致金 (印度人)、前電視台記者利君雅 (巴基斯坦人) 佢哋都係喺香港嘅南亞裔人士‧

其實港人唔係歧視，只不過你唔識講廣東話溝通有阻礙，我祖母1950年上海來香港，那時大陸人不像現在香港人可就他們講國語，所以我從小和祖母爸爸都講廣東話，但懂聽上海話！其實我覺得去到別人地方最好學習當地語言，至於歧視全世界都有，最緊要自己心理強大！
