    I’ve watched a dozen videos by 40-60 year old experts and a teenager shows an easier, faster, cheaper and over all better way to do it with stuff you already have laying around the house.
    Awesome!

    Quick, thorough and to the point. I’ve used this method to repair two different kayaks and it work perfectly and has held up for over a year.

    I know it's not the newest video, but I think this is one of the best pieces of advice I've seen, yet, for kayak repair. So many other people have suggested specialized plastic welding tools which need a specific size HDPE rod to feed through it. It's not really worth the cost, if someone isn't going to need it very frequently, in my opinion.

    Have you considered adding a stainless steel metal mesh under the plastic when heated in the oven. In theory it should bond with the plastic in the kayak, securing a better fit - any opinions on this? thanks for the great video!

    🤠👏👏👏 What a great video! This man is doing great things! Really was an awesome tutorial I like how you broke everything down you spoke very clearly everything was easy to translate. I do wish that you had a Time on how long to put it in the oven but I understand that differs depending on what plastic you are using. I guess Beggars can't be choosers LOL anywho will be sharing this out what a great video. Thanks for helping clean up the Earth by reusing plastic that would end up in a landfill!!!🚮

    I need to find a video showing how to reattach my kayak hull to the deck, both HDPE. It separated just for about 16", at the side of the cockpit. Tricky to get into the corners... Maybe a soldering gun?

    Very nice, I wonder if a small amount of expanding foam could be used to support instead of dowel

    • @joeycmore
      @joeycmore ปีที่แล้ว

      remember friend, many forms of expanding foam will eventually absorb water when they've dried out... if for boat repair, use sparingly?!

    • @mplsmark222
      @mplsmark222 ปีที่แล้ว

      The foam really won’t stick very well to the polyethylene, but you can use this to your advantage. If the area is accessible, you could just pull the foam out once the PE repair is complete. Closed cell foam kits are available, but they are considerably more expensive than home center spray foam products.

      John Schulte have you tried this method? How did it turn out?

    • @JohnSchulte
      @JohnSchulte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexizzarelli9122 I never doubled the plastic as shown, but yes this works. It's mostly timing. You need the kayak plastic still soft when you add your patch. They have to meld together.

  • @dubab.249

    Phenomenal, old plastic buckets made of pee etc. are cheaper than expensive ones. Just clean, degrease, and heat the kayak base well and all scratches disappear. Everyone gave you :) greetings from 🇭🇷

    Nice ideas, but the edges look poorly adhered. Maybe surface prep the patch area with a wood rasp before applying patch?

    • @daddyjohnl5543
      @daddyjohnl5543 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sandpaper...Don't overkill it.

    • @JS-qg1ie
      @JS-qg1ie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the idea is more to get the two surfaces to an adequately almost molten state so they adhere on a molecular level. Sanding wouldn’t really do much as getting to that almost molten state would smooth out the grooves created by sanding.
