first of all congrats on starting a family i hope nothing but the best for you and your family, and we are hyped for the release of the game please do take your time in polishing the game and ignore these people who demand things without giving anything in return, you are doing a huge work for the SM64 community and also for the speedrun community since im sure by now they finished everything about SM64 so for them to have a new game with the same physics as SM64 is beyond amazing and exciting, hope the best for you my man and take care of yourself and your family. peace!
Damn, whatever you do, people are never happy! You make them new licenses and they complain about the absence of their childhood games, you make new episodes of their favorite saga and they will say that you are lazy and that you are counting on the success of your old games, you release a game quickly and they will say that it is poorly optimized, you take your time to polish it well and they will say that you are too long, in short do not listen to everyone, you do a good and exciting job, me who has never managed to understand programming despite all the efforts I put into it, what you do is as if you achieved what I wanted to do by having learned C#, you are one of the rare TH-camrs that I watch instantly when I see one of their new videos, continue because I think that everyone here wants to see what the ultimate version of Mario 64 will be like if it were 100% optimized and for impatient people there are a lot of other games and other things to do in life so it's up to them to get a life.
Version 1.1? With all the improvements, it might as well be a version 2.0 (esp. if you take the international and Shindō Pak versions into consideration) :P
Dude, I subbed to you to follow what you've been doing with Mario 64. I remain subbed to you to see what you've been doing with it. I might not understand much of this, but it's fascinating all the same.

The real work is being done by a team of scientists to develop a time machine to get you to be head of Nintendo development in 1995 to start shipping mind boggling games at N64 launch that destroy all the competition using 2024 knowledge.
btw i hope you will make a cartridge (empty, for legal reasons) + cardboard package that we could buy from you for 50-75 CAD $ to encourage your work and then get the rom "for free" so that you wouldnt get sued by nintendo and yet we could contribute. just an idea 😉
People asking about "When will it be done!?" have clearly not been exposed to the long tail of game development before. It is like most Nintendo games, you see it YEARS in advance of it actually coming out. Eventually you just go "Cool, it is done when it is done! Best of luck to the devs!".
Nothing in this video makes me more excited than the wall of text around 3:30 mentioning that you're implementing quaternions, specifically for animations. Quaternions are so poorly understand due to people trying to visualise them as 4D objects, when really they're just 3D rotations stored as a mixture (aka linear combination aka weighted average) of 4 basis rotations: 180° around the x axis, 180° around the y axis, 180° around the z axis, and 0° around every axis and no axis. I really hope you eventually make a video giving your own take on explaining quaternions, as well as what it took to integrate them into your existing engine.
Your title design for "RETURN TO YOSHI's ISLAND" looks great. I'd just recommend "ISLAND" has a red fill instead of a white fill. That'll make it look more punchy. Also, I'd recommend reaching out to Cheese Speedrunning, Simply etc for beta testing. Perhaps they can provide some valuable feedback to further optimise Mario's movement. Any Mario 64 speed runners that have now somewhat retired but are still making TH-cam videos are going to be perfect, because they will be seeking novelty and that could create the next step in speed running by introducing them to essentially Mario 64 v2. Excellent to here your code will be open sources and ported. For noobs to rom hacking, that's going to reduce the complexity and allow them to focus on modelling and level design.
I am SO EXCITED for Return to Yoshi's Island and SM64 Rewritten!!! I love watching your videos during chores and homework and you've inspired me to give a shit about maff so I can do things like this. Keep it up! I pray that your work goes smoother and progresses in a way that keeps you happy. Stay safe!
looking forward to your next code optimizations video!! Hearing about the improvements you find is always so cool, and it's mindboggling to hear you say that you're not memory bottle-necked anymore!! How? how. how, even
honestly, I don't really care about the wait. The fact that you're transparent enough to show what you're doing is great and I like learning about different facets of Mario 64. There are a lot of devs who just went radio silent lol. You don't really owe anyone this romhack either, there's no kickstarter and this isn't a sequel so just take your time. Also congrats on being a dad that's crazy haha
To be honest I thought you were doing this just because you wanted to. There's definitely some fun to be had in tuning something to its maximum capability. I'm here because I like hearing about optimization like that. baby's also pretty cool, congrats on being a dad. No one's ever ready for it when the kid first arrives, but I'm sure you'll do a good job, if the persistence with which you make these projects is anything to go by
Love the content. Don't ever let the haters change your way. I'm looking forward to your release as well as the backport of your optimizations as I've been following your project for a long time and it's really cool to see
personally i want _more_ n64 optimization content optimization in general is very fascinating to me especially if it involves some hardware quirks or something like that
I have a suggestion when releasing your 2nd Demo. Don't call it RTYI 64 demo 2. Put it under another name like "Test_Level_420" so the Nintendo Ninja's don't potentially C&D your game before it's released.
For as much as it would be cool to get to play the me, I'm actually following because of the technical videos you've made showing the optimizations and things that the N64 can do. It's really satisfying to see what you've been working on to get that millisecond more optimized byte by byte. So please, don't listen the people who have been rushing you or saying it's never getting released. Take your time, love your baby and family. Bye bye!
Your comment sections are always full of support and kindness. Don’t let a couple trolls affect you, they’re just desperate for attention. Also people asking for a release are just excited! And if you don’t release it soon it literally doesn’t matter, they’ll still be excited when you do release it.
I have like, the craziest respect for you seeing this. Not many developers really answer "where is it?!" type posts, so to not only address those but to explain the reasoning behind the technological improvements is a really respectable move. Having an optimized "1.1" of Mario 64 as a project for when the game is done is also really, really exciting. You are genuinely one of the most talented people I've seen in the community.
It would be pretty cool if the 2d sprites had better quality and didn't look so pixelated for your next optimization, not that you have to do it, I just think it would be cool to have better quality sprites.
I'm so looking forward for the Demo and whatever your original game will be, your groundbreaking innovation in Mario 64 rom hacking never stops to amazed me
Ok but when can we get the little one behind a keyboard to help with the development??? We know the kids yern for labor. But in all seriousness, this is incredible and crazy that youre essentially reverse engineering the N64. Super excited and take your time, life comes first!
why is it that anywhere i go on youtube, the creators become a dads or get married? i can't even watch mario mods without fueling my self hate and suicide thoughts
The baby looks like it’s been alive for at least the past several months and he’s still making good progress on the game. It’s not like he abandoned all of his work to focus solely on the baby. Seeing people get married and have kids and abandon everything pisses me off too but this isn’t one of those situations.

first of all congrats on starting a family i hope nothing but the best for you and your family, and we are hyped for the release of the game please do take your time in polishing the game and ignore these people who demand things without giving anything in return, you are doing a huge work for the SM64 community and also for the speedrun community since im sure by now they finished everything about SM64 so for them to have a new game with the same physics as SM64 is beyond amazing and exciting, hope the best for you my man and take care of yourself and your family.
“Get a life” WTF??
This is my favorite game of all time getting turned into a PC PORT AHH on the original console!! I cannot wait for Yoshi’s Island 64, even if it’s been 2 years lol
They should get a life instead of pestering the most awesome guy on the other side of the planet (I’m in America)
Appreciate your effort and dedication towards the lil plumber.
I'm eager to play, but will wait for it to be done.
This is actually the reason he’s going to make his own original game after he finishes this.
Hey man congratulations for your baby! Hope you all are doing great, keep the good work and enjoy life with your kid, blessings.
I'm sure all the people complaining, why it takes so long, would LOVE to help you. Right?
BTW your child has a legendary dad.
i shall wait patiently for the release and new demo ! it'd be fun to have a yoshi player model postgame but i understand if it's not possible
Stay safe!
Love to hear from you!
The wood panel and tube, excellent
mario 64 is going to be running at 128 fps on snes hardware before kaze is done!
wooohooo, congratz on the human larva!!
Just ordered my everdrive for SNES, N64, and Genesis and so excited for 60 fps Mario 64 and all the hacks :)
And on a real CRT :0
looking forward to your next code optimizations video!! Hearing about the improvements you find is always so cool, and it's mindboggling to hear you say that you're not memory bottle-necked anymore!! How? how. how, even
I'm only here for the nitty gritty details about N64 and SM64 optimizations.
This is incredible! This stuff is so interesting to me! What’s even more crazy is that he has a life outside of this lol
Anyways, great work!!
honestly, I don't really care about the wait.
I'm looking forward to your release as well as the backport of your optimizations as I've been following your project for a long time and it's really cool to see
personally i want _more_ n64 optimization content
optimization in general is very fascinating to me
especially if it involves some hardware quirks or something like that
I have a suggestion when releasing your 2nd Demo. Don't call it RTYI 64 demo 2. Put it under another name like "Test_Level_420" so the Nintendo Ninja's don't potentially C&D your game before it's released.
your a legend when this game will come out you will be making history probably
2:12 that transition is super smooth lol
It would be pretty cool if the 2d sprites had better quality and didn't look so pixelated for your next optimization,
not that you have to do it, I just think it would be cool to have better quality sprites.
Smart not to give a release date. Don't want Nintendo legal trying to sue you for a trillion dollar fine or something equally outrageous. 💀
"As A child I yearned for the code..." "GET OUT!!🗣️🗣️🔥🔥"
This is so incredibly cool. Just keep doing your thing, dude. I just want to see what comes of it, whenever it comes to pass.
why is it that anywhere i go on youtube, the creators become a dads or get married? i can't even watch mario mods without fueling my self hate and suicide thoughts
The baby looks like it’s been alive for at least the past several months and he’s still making good progress on the game. It’s not like he abandoned all of his work to focus solely on the baby. Seeing people get married and have kids and abandon everything pisses me off too but this isn’t one of those situations.
Can't wait to see what comes out of all this. The work you've done on the engine is legendary!
Vroom Vroom! Looking amazing man, take your time!
You're awesome!
I don't care if it takes 5 more years, take your time! Your videos are super interesting and are pushing the limits of a console so dear to people. I've seen so many cool projects die before they were ready, like everyone, but I think we forget how many CRAZY projects actually delivered! Enderal? Project M? All the console emulators that can now even be used in phones? The n64 recompilation tools? So much crazy cool stuff actually got finished!
Keep at it man, just make sure to give us small peaks at what you're working on, like you've been doing, to keep us interested :D
Soon: how I have optimised DK64 to run at 60 fps while rendering 9000 polygons
I'm excited to see where your project(s) are at this time next year.
Damm, you are making a sales pitch fun, that's a hard thing to get right
