    Two months ago I´ve set up a new 120 Liter (31.7 Gallons) well planted (only modest plants - no CO2 needed) community AQ. I´ve installed a "EHEIM pickup 160 (2012)" in the middle of a side wall with the outlet short underneath the water surface to produce a straight but balancing water flow on the surface and a effective return flow above the ground, both not to strong, so there`s no waste on the gravel. This filter works very reliable and effective. I´ve planted a few strong growing stem plants around the filter. The "EHEIM pickup" series is one of the best internal filter on the market. In Germany this filter costs only 24 EURO (= 33.16 AUD) and that`s excellent value for money.

    Got one of these and it's so quiet. And very low power consumption compared to others of same LPH. Very happy with it

    Contrary, in a small tank there is less space for internal filter!
    Whilst an external works great and also extends the water volume.

    I wish they still sold these in the USA. Not available in USA voltage anywhere either. The one I bought in 1997 (along with some other Eheim filters) has been running continuously ever since. An incredible mechanical filter for its size. Anyone know how to convert a Euro model to USA?

    Just got the biggest one and it doesn't pick up anything. Ended up using a small cheap power head and made my own filter out of a peanut butter Plastic bottle. It does pick up! All people buy this junk for is it looks more stylish than my DIY one. But is it about looks or functionality?

    Lovely video.:)
    I recently bought the Eheim Pick Up 45 for my 30L tank, I'm quite happy with it so far.:)
    I do have a few questions though, if you have time :)
    Would this filter, the pick up 45, be okay in a shrimp tank? Or is there too big a risk of the young being sucked into the machine.? Is there anything simple to prevent it from happening?

    Is this filter safe for shrimp fry? Will they get sucked in? If so how can i prevent them to?

    • @MajesticAquariumsTV
      @MajesticAquariumsTV  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only use air driven sponge filters for fresh fry.

    • @MrJueKa
      @MrJueKa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can cover the lower part of the filter with a nylon sock, but this might block the waste as well. My girlfriend had even found some very little snails (Physella acuta) in the lower part of this filter, but that was of course not the filter`s fault. The filter she uses is now over 15 years old and it still works great.
      It`s really better to use a simple air driven sponge filter instead. "Tetra Brilliant Filter" in combination with the "Tetra ASP 50 or 100 air pump" / the new "JBL ChrystalClear m greenline" - also a top filter imo / "Hamburger Matten Filter" and so on, there are so many others - they are all absolutely safe for shrimp and fry and work really great.

    hey my friend
    i have a tank (60L) with this filter ( up to 60L) and i feel like it's not strong enough to sweep everything. maybe my tank has to much pieces of wood or stones. but it's getting dirty really fast on the white sand..
    i was thinking of adding a power head at the other side any advice ?? i don't want it to strong either.
    thanks a lot

    Thanks for your videos, I think they're great, love watching them.
    What is your opinion on the Eheim Pickup 160 vs Fluval U2?

    Hi Paul. I have a 36"x15"x15" tank which I want to set up as a small fish community aquarium (Tetras etc). I have two questions if you can help. 1 - Do you think the Eheim Pick Up is better than the Fluval U3 which also has carbon and media cartridges? 2 - Given the size of my tank, I have been advised to go for an external filter if possible. Aesthetics and the extra cost aside, would you agree? Thanks.

    • @MajesticAquariumsTV
      @MajesticAquariumsTV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. both work fine
      2. external canister is bigger and better

    • @Cobalt-Jester
      @Cobalt-Jester 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MartinJG100 I have a Eheim 2010 in a tank that's about the same size as yours and it's been running non-stop for nearly 5 years keeping all my fish in clean water. As long as you regularly rinse out the sponge and clean the impeller in tank water, I do mine every weekend during water changes, it will last you a good long while. I bought mine to replace a Fluval U2 that stopped working twice. The first time it stopped working was after about 6 months. I returned it to Amazon they sent me a replacement and that one stopped working within 2 weeks. After that I got my money back and ordered the Eheim. But I'd like to point out that I will need some a new sponge in it soon as the flow rate has decreased and no matter how much I try to clean out the sponge it's just too dirty and tatty. I think that it lasting nearly 5 years is quite remarkable and it's certainly well worth the money. £8 ($15 aud) for 2 sponges and 1 lasts 5 years is a bargain. Certainly cheaper than buying the Fluval at £25 ($50 uad) that only lasts a couple of month.

    What's the best way to change the filter cartridge in one of these? I have one and have had a it for around 6-8 months, works well, I clean the filter in tank water when I need to but the cartridge is falling apart abit now, got a spare on hand but quite cautious about killing all my good bacteria, might try and cut some of the old one off and try and stick abit in with new one if it fits

  • @jameshone1000
    @jameshone1000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    there no good if you have a fish tank with a lot of fish as they cant cope with large bio loads also you can put a external filter on any tank from 50 litters to 500liters

    • @jameshone1000
      @jameshone1000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jameshone1000 and I am not hateing there a good brand and last a long time but would not use one for a tank that has over ten or more fish as the don't have a large area for the good bacteria to grow to eat the ammonia build up and need to be cleaned more regular if you have a lot of fish
