thank you for this. I knew there was another side to the idyllic small town of Laurel. This looks like all the small towns near where I grew up in rural Michigan. You can see struggle. (And you can see Katrina here). The first thing that happens is the area uses up its natural resources. In Laurel it seems like it's timber. Greed never thinks anything through. Greed does not replace what it steals. Then, America exchanged manufacturing jobs and the middle-class for cheap goods imported from China, Thailand, etc. Was it worth the exchange? I say no. I would rather pay more for address or a dishwasher and know that it was manufactured in America by American workers who are making a living wage. Pipe dreams, smoke rings.
